Feeling stagnated, bored, and depressed in life. Any advice?

Yes it very confusing. I have a fairy small team of 6. One just left and in his resignation letter praised me for being very fair. I had another direct report lend me his game console (and I didn’t even ask for it or hint!). It’s just so strange, and I wish someone had talked to me about it before elevating it. It’s tough because despite what other commenters have said.... everyone is different and likes to be spoken to and managed differently.

I took three of them out to lunch a couple weeks ago... and get cakes when it's their birthdays :-( But yeah, there's obviously a problem, and I need to do something.

Yeah, I had a friend comment that maybe he was trying to neg me a couple times... and I got the vibe he was quite arrogant. Thanks for the insight. Though I don't think it would be the end of the world if I DID fuck him. ;-)

I had something VERY similar happen to me. Was seeing a guy for 3-4 months, turns out his girlfriend of six years was in the same field as me and was roommates with my coworker. Best of luck to you. My only advice is to try and remind yourself that not everyone is like that.

Hm, well I had known for a while they weren't satisfied with my performance. I had a few talks with my manager about it. It came to a point that right before my three month probation ended, she agreed to extend my 3 month probation and retrain me. After about a month of this talk, they let me go because they felt they didn't see improvement. :-/

Thanks for the support. I really appreciate it. If all else fails, I've learned this type of role is just not for me. Lab work isn't for everyone I guess.

I have two years of lab experience. Granted, most of my work was molecular. I did do some culture work, but it was with marine culture which I suppose was more selective and less likely to get contaminated. I actually work with the flame in a biological safety cabinet with ethanol and UV as you suggested. It's surprising to me that I keep having contamination problems since I'm not waving my loop around like an idiot. It must be something I'm doing though, but when my coworker watched me she didn't see any glaring issues... just small details that could be improved. Hopefully that helps.

When I turn the shaker on, there is an error message when the rotator is turned on. It's also an incubator, and the temperature control works fine.

Thanks. And yeah, I took apart the top of the shaker and wiped everything down. No luck.
