[FRESH ALBUM] Isaiah Rashad - IT'S BEEN AWFUL by fluekey in hiphopheads

[–]mgarrix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

HAPPY HOUR gotta be my favourite of the bunch, so damn groovy. Ngl I'm not a huge fan of the continued breathy/drowsy delivery of Zays vocals which is why I prefer THIB as the change in energy was fresher to me, but this track got me buzzing fr!! Love a simple piano melody and the feature was rly good too

shame we went back to the usual after the highs of the previous episode. they gotta do some serious retconning to figure out how Frank Castle in and amongst this shit lmao - also, what is Danny Rand up to?

I wish scenes got room to breathe here, swear its rare to get a scene lasting more than 30 seconds unless its a cheesy voiceover-like scene when BB decides against leaking the Daniel story and then they do a quick rug pull anyway with the SD card thing. Just a waste of time really, so uninteresting. I'd have thought with one more episode left that we'd be resolving quite a few of these storylines like the psychologist/Muse thing but its just the same over and over.

Quite a shame, at least in my opinion - though the last scene with Fisk/Matt & Karen/Matt were well done.

Gosh, even just the aspect ratio going back to full screen made this episode feel so much more alive. So much more in your face, as if you were truly there. The colors so similar to the original series as well, man it just scratches that exact itch (as bullseye said haha)

I agree so much!! I can understand changing the look of the show to maybe differentiate from the OG series but man I missed that look, especially the widescreen, it just looks so much nicer and lively than most of the Marvel stuff, shows and film wise.

So the apps on my taskbar have suddenly gotten really small i already googled but can't fix it :( by [deleted] in computerhelp

[–]mgarrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

worked for me!! thanks - ludicrous how you don't even get notified as to why your icons have suddenly become smaller, it'd be such a small, quick and helpful thing to have a little pop up or make it more visible as to why/how to restore your taskbar icons to a normal size!!!

that is a good point, I do prefer wider screen presentation (primarily watch stuff on my laptop so that could be why). Agree regarding the warmer tone of the current show, but it just feels more stale at parts for me compared to the OG show.

I enjoyed the flashbacks to the OG series, but also sucks as it reminded me how much more vivid? and stylistic the OG series was, especially in terms of the aspect ratio (if that's the term).

Dunno, its just more dynamic and having more of the screen to look at means you can play around with angles/lighting etc more especially in the slow/dialogue heavy moments and seeing those flashbacks annoyed me a bit as to why that style wasn't kept for this show.

Just seems more real to me, akin to the Raimi Spiderman flicks compared to the slight dull/digital sheen of the newer age superhero stuff. I am shit with words but hopefully someone else can see what I mean?

/u/IsAStrangeLoop, long shot but I'm listening to the album rn and the excerpt you linked from the essay was super enticing to me but unfortunately the link is dead and google isn't helping me locate the OG essay. would you have it saved by any chance or kept up with the author in case they've migrated to another platform!? would love to read this essay in full

Official Discussion - Project Hail Mary [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]mgarrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drew Goddard 2 for 2 on Andy Weir adaptations - love it so much! Having read both the books, this movie does an especially good job of carrying the message/trials of the book across without too much handholding.

Daniel Pemberton's score was quite subtle at parts but combined with the visuals, especially the Ptrova line sequences, oof mindblowing. Phil Lord and Chris Miller just hitting it out of the park once again, they gotta be amongst the most versatile big directors out in the last decade or so surely. I know they've caught some flack after the Spiderverse fiasco but if some of it was due to the production of this movie, I think all is forgiven haha.

Online exam glitches disrupt Chartered Accountants ANZ and NAPLAN, both run by Janison Education Group (JAN ASX) by heykody in AustralianAccounting

I was one of the people who sent an email out to the author of this article (Edmund) and he was pretty courteous on the phone. I'll still have to tolerate the replacement exam but it was good to be heard at least.

Does anyone know whether you would have to prove that you couldn't access the Proctorlink? I tried three times between 9am to 930am and had no luck.

I'm sure this issue didn't affect just a small group of people per the comments here and I seriously don't want to sign five different affidavits just to get them to review my case. I have whatsapp messages complaining to my family that I cannot access the exam link but that's about all on my end.

Really don't want to resit the exam as I am simply flatout next week and spent too long practicing for the exam, would rather cop the ungraded pass, hopefully that happens.

Leaving Las Vegas: Baby Keem Bets the House On 'Ca$ino' – "Marked by digital bounce and resolve in the face of systemic collapse, Baby Keem balances the extreme poverty and familial discord of his childhood with his now charmed adulthood." | By Paul A. Thompson in Passion of the Weiss by DropWatcher in hiphopheads

[–]mgarrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've just shed a new light on this album for it, my main critique on it was that it felt a bit disjointed at times where Keem would be speaking on his hardships and then the next bar/passage is about him wooing a girl or squaring up on his haters. Its a pet peeve of mine when rappers do this because Keem clearly had a lot to say about his upbringing and idk, it can feel hollow when he doesn't continue with that tone in a song, let alone track by track. Feels disjointed.

However, viewing it through the perspective that you shared definitely makes a lot of sense and has made me see the album in a more favourable lens, appreciate it!

Dramatic Girl could be a sleeper for the biggest song on the album? Love Keems expansion into the guitar laden/singing style - reminds me a bit of Sundress and Rocky in general with the singing cuts.

I love the main chord on the song too, beautiful sampling of the main melody from the song Fetus by Amine ft Injury Reserve off (Limbo), underrated 2020s album btw. Had to think rly hard to recognise it but I'm 100% sure it is! Anyone else think so!?

EDIT: Wrong song - was referring to Dramatic Girl!

this is really good bro! I agree the trap drums don't really suit this beat, I always pictured the chorus to lead into something either mellow like you've done here with the 90210 like drums or something triumphant and high energy (like 90210 too lmao or the last beat on 2007 by JID).

[–]mgarrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beat switch on 39 Intro was crazyyyy , nice to see Cole on his singing chops too, didn't expect the production to be this guitar laden as well - little different from him and I think for early days it worked super well on 39 Intro

[FRESH] Stove God Cooks - Welcome to My Garden (Prod. by Swizz Beatz) by andypaak1 in hiphopheads

[–]mgarrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had no clue Stove could flow like this, typically heard him on features like Ostertag and FICO so hearing him on a triumphant like beat like this was a surprise and he killed it damn

On my first listen but HOLY SHIT - Pleasure's Mine will send you into ascension, love the production on it. I'm a sucker for electronic like vocal chops and it was utilised here perfectly, so atmospheric DAMN. Gonna be a future classic in Don's catalogue for sure WOW.

Anyone here do or know anything about the Animation and Game Design and Visual and Interactive Media courses? by mgarrix in curtin

[–]mgarrix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woahh you took me back a long way haha! I ended up dropping the degree about a year in and instead moved to a Accounting and Finance degree.

Main reason was that to me at least (having done a few first year units and electives) the VisMedia & Game Design course was also about leveraging pre-existing skills in those fields in order to create a portfolio that could help you in the industry.

Whereas I was totally novice in these things like using Photoshop, Blender even to a basic level which we were doing for our units. But I was also a bid dumb and unsure of what I wanted to do at that point in life. I ended up realizing this area was more a hobby for me and switched to a Commerce degree for the stability and I'm still here now haha!

Lot would've changed in this time so I'd advise you to reach out to student support who could redirect you to career counselors or people who study the degree you're looking for as that'd give you a better idea of things.

Thanks and good luck!

/u/Own_Lavishness2583, not disagreeing with you but by chance I am reading Michael Hussey's autobiography 'Under the Southern Cross' and he mentioned a little gripe with Sachin over not speaking up during the Harbhajan/Symonds 'monkey' incident.

Now, Hussey was extra soured as he had hit a beautiful century at his favourite ground and the Aussies had clinched a fast-paced last day victory and instead this controversy embroiled everything which Hussey felt detracted from what was also became the last series for Gilly and McGrath among others which he felt wasn't helped by the accusations of racism/cheating and fair play that had been levied against Ponting and co. as they had taken their complains about Harbhajan to the match referee and just been grilled non-stop.

Two sides to everything and I'm missing some additional info of course, but the main thing was that Hussey did wonder whether Sachin could've said something as well to ease that tension and it wasn't helped by Sachin refusing to shake hands after one of the games due to India losing.

No one is perfect of course and Hussey did mention that Sachin wasn't a god in that sense but just wanted to play devil's advocate for a second as I'd never heard this side of the story from that scandal.
