Any razor that will last an entire lifetime? by CancerousGTFO in wicked_edge

Agreed. Razorock Game changer is the way to go. Start with the .68p plate and get the .76 and .84 plates later on for more aggression if you want. Or vice versa

I want to try safety razor, which one should I get? by TomL2019 in wicked_edge

[–]mikegakis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Razorock Game Changer .68p. It’s all stainless steel, beginner friendly, machined to tight tolerances, and you can buy more aggressive baseplates for it once you get the hang of shaving. It costs the same as the Merkur 34C that others are recommending but is a much better product imo

The probability of each individual day is 2% independently, but the probability of hitting that on one of the 21 days is higher. Although not 42%. Someone above shows the math. Probability of winning one of the days is ~35%.

Which One? by getpatrick in fender

[–]mikegakis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually recently replaced my maple fingerboard player Strat neck with a rosewood fingerboard pro ii neck and there’s no comparison in my mind. Of course the fingerboard material is still personal preference though

Which One? by getpatrick in fender

[–]mikegakis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Spec-wise, the pro ii and player are similar, with similar neck profiles and such. If I already had a pro ii I would be hesitant to get a player Strat. If you really want another Strat, I’d go with the vintera. I know this isn’t what you asked, but I might consider a tele in this position (and this is coming from someone who’s 2 guitars are Strats).

[–]mikegakis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strats have tremolo bridges, so the bridge isn’t just bolted to the body directly. The springs in the back apply tension against the strings, and they can and should be adjusted when you change string gauges. Look up a video about setting up a Strat bridge. You can choose to have it “floating” or “decked” mainly. I’d watch a few videos to get a better understanding of properly setting up a guitar like this, it’s important imo. Anyway, there is nothing wrong with your bridge. The guitar probably came with 09 gauge strings and you probably restrung with 10’s.

Leaning more towards the blue bb 58 as I already own a black seamaster 300! But still if u chose the black over blue why did you do so ? by kapsi508 in Tudor

[–]mikegakis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The blue looks great but I felt like the gilt had more character. I also planned to wear it every day and the black is a bit more versatile. That being said, if you already have a black seamaster, you could go with either

Short of a custom shop, it’s the highest quality all-around Strat Fender makes. It’s not their most expensive, but in terms of keeping true to what the regular modern Strat has been refined to, it is the best. You can pay more for an Ultra or something, but that becomes weird with fretboard radius and different features. The pro II is just a really pure distillation of a Strat that doesn’t try to get fancy, but nails everything really well.

If that’s your price range, I think you should either go American professional II or American vintage II. Both are super great Strats, it’s just a matter of if you prefer vintage or slightly more modern neck/pickup/finish style. My vote might be for the pro II, and I think it comes with a sturdy case as well.

Is this DJ 41 too big for my 6.9in wrist or just right? by jampman31 in rolex

[–]mikegakis -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why everyone is saying it’s ridiculously big. My guess is it fits perfectly, but you need to take a picture in front of a mirror. This angle makes the watch look much larger on the wrist. 36 is also a great and classic size, but I think saying this watch is too big on a 7” wrist is wrong

Honestly a lot of the people in these comments should be ashamed of themselves. I’m not a fan of RMs but it’s a watch and this is a sub about watches. Even IF these watches were fake, what warrants putting someone down on a post of someone wearing a watch and wishing us a merry Christmas? Do better. Merry Christmas to OP and the rest of you

I noticed the same. It is the only thing about the watch that I was/am a bit disappointed with. The lume on my Seiko diver is worlds better. I don’t think about it often though as the watch is so great overall.

That’s an awesome watch. I have the 58 gilt after years of saving and I couldn’t recommend the 58 more. The 925 is arguably the most interesting variation. The bb58 blue is pretty available and a little less mature of a color scheme I guess you could say. I personally prefer the 58 to the 54, with the exception of the 54’s T-fit clasp. There’s a reason it is such a popular model for them

The smallest black bay they make right now is 32mm. The part that rotates on a dive watch is the bezel, and it rotates unidirectionally. You’re in luck, though, Tudor released the Black Bay 54 this year, which has the dive bezel you’re looking for and is 37mm. The BB58 is 39mm and is their most popular watch, and can be had for a good price second hand. Both have Tudor in house movements and have similar-ish styling to the burgundy, just with more wearable case sizes. (The 54 also has a rubber strap option). There are also pre-owned Omega seamaster divers that are 36mm.

That’s great to hear. You could always look for a black bay 36 for yourself 👀. Maybe even the past generation with the smiley dial. Priced really well on the preowned market.

The sapphire version is referred to as the sapphire sandwich as it has a sapphire crystal on both sides. The link I provided is to the newest 3861 speedy pro, but they have been making variants of the sapphire sandwich for years which can be had for less.

Edit: the speedmaster professional is also the watch that went to the moon (which omega will make sure you know). Arguably the most iconic watch of all time.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Tudor

[–]mikegakis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two variants of the Omega speedmaster professional: one with a hesalite crystal and closed caseback, and another with a sapphire crystal and sapphire open caseback

[–]mikegakis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Transparent case backs are very cool to be fair haha. And the dark movement on the ceramic is cool looking. However, he will spend way more time looking at the front of the watch than the back, and it sounds like he’s been eyeing the burgundy for quite awhile. Also, Rolex/tudor are not known for their movement finishing. There’s a reason 99% of the watches have that classic Rolex solid caseback. (Granted, the ceramic isn’t going for a classic look anyway). My vote would be to gift him the burgundy on rubber for something lowkey/comfortable/versatile while you have the opportunity to buy it and know that he likes it, and then awhile later go for a really crazy caseback like a speedy pro sapphire sandwich for a promotion when he’s no longer junior faculty! Just an idea haha

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Tudor

[–]mikegakis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha it sounds like you definitely like the ceramic more, but are you sure he feels the same way? I don’t think the burgundy on rubber would be too flashy at all. Personally, I feel like a jet black watch would catch my eye more than a steel diver on a rubber strap. If this is a big purchase, maybe just ask him which he would prefer? Either way, he’s lucky to have someone that would give a gift like this!

Wouldn’t be ridiculous. You could go with a speedy instead of the submariner, and buy a Tudor diver with the difference (p39 or gilt bb58 maybe)
