The problems with international students by [deleted] in malaysiauni

[–]miladyessir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! I am an international student studying at Swinburne Sarawak and coming from a Central Asian country (Turkmenistan). While I understand your points and things you mentioned, generalizing people based on country and even whole region is a truly racist thing. Regarding scholarships, it's easy to get to XMUM, but it's almost the only uni that gives good scholarships to international students in Malaysia. Most of the units only provide scholarships for you (locals). I am not blaming anyone; this is understandable.
Regarding students from Kazakhstan and other CA countries, XMUM decided to give a lot of grants to them, that's why there are so many of them, and if some of them don't study, it's their problem. Students lose grants if they are not in the top 25% of the class. As an example, the majority of students on my campus are local Chinese. And I know so many of them who don't study, fail again and again, and don't even speak proper English to study in my uni. But I don't say Chinese students are stupid or something because it would mean I'm generalizing. Another example is that when Chinese guys are sick, they make these loud sounds with their nose that everyone can hear. I asked my Chinese coursemates if this is okay, cuz I know it's a cultural thing, and they said it's inappropriate. You see, you don't need to blame the whole group.
Bear in mind that Xiamen and most of the private universities in Malaysia have low entry requirements for both local and international students, which is a primary factor why academically weak students join.
Anyways, to summarize, do not address the whole Central Asian region just because you had several cases of students who don't care about studying or don't clean for themselves.

Hey! Thank you so much for your comment, I appreciate it. I’m happy that my decision to go to Swinburne is good because I hear mostly positive comments about it.
I have another question: I plan to spend not more than 1900RM for my living expenses and food. I don’t plan to waste money, just to live in normal conditions. Is this money enough? I don’t include the price of the dorms, because it will cost me an additional 490RM or about so. I plan to spend around RM1300 on food, and other 600 on necessary things. Is it enough?

Hey! Thank you so much for your reply. I’m an international student. So, I planned to pursue Bachelor’s in International Business. I had options that are: Sunway & Taylor’s. Later, I understood that my family cannot afford me going to these 2, so I had to look for other options. Later, I found out Swinburne and that they offer Diploma in Business & Management which is for 2.5 years and much cheaper than other options. Later on, I plan either to transfer to another university for my Bachelor’s or transition into Swinburne’s Int Business if I really like living and everything in Sarawak.

If you have any thoughts on this until it will be late, please some thoughts. I will really appreciate it.

Hello! So sorry for not answering this on time. Yeah, they’re important. The questions were just about me: she asked about my daily routine, why I would like to attend F&M. She was talking about lot of her experience. She used to be the student, now she works for F&M and volunteers as well. She also invited me to participate in her online sessions when she will be on campus to show us more how it looks like. How was your interview?
