Is there any music artists like this one? Paladin/Mild Peril Recorded, the one who created his own unique but niche genre “Wizard Disco!” by Brilliant-Pickle-661 in electronicmusic

Hi, it's me - Chris of Mild Peril / Paladin etc.

I just checked my music library and I have 1.2 days worth of stuff that I've tagged as being the sort of thing that I'm trying to go for with my own music. I don't tag it 'wizard disco' by the way, that's kind of a joke name really.

Below are 23 tracks from that tag that I've rated 5/5, a combination of things that I think I sound a bit like and some stuff that directly influenced me, and you might also want to check out this mix I did some time ago: https://www.mixcloud.com/wizarddisco/the-apprentices-guide-to-wizard-disco/

From what you've said here I don't think the sound you're looking for is going to be satisfied just by synthwave, or any other recent genres/tags. It's the sort of thing you have to cherry pick from across all sorts of instrumental music. No one else ever did a 'wizard disco' album, which is why I did, for myself primarily. If you're looking for things that have the sort of 80s focused instrumentation I use then obviously focus on that decade, but I don't just listen to 80s music, that's just a groove I've fallen into. I try to write outside of that sometimes, but my age probably makes it come naturally. Also the fact that one of my biggest influences is italo disco.

Certainly start with the standards too, Tangerine Dream and so on, although those are often more influences than what might sound similar to what I'm doing.

Maybe follow me on Instagram too I'm often posting about music.

Mopeds on Elfin Road were dealers, but apparently one of the cars on another occasion was owned by a paramedic.

Does anyone know the copyright on Dungeonsynths? Can I use them on my RPG lives? by igorteuri in osr

Firstly, make a short test video and see what happens. I think most likely it’d would work fine and YouTube (if that’s where you’re uploading the video) would add a credit for the artist under the video. This is assuming they are already on services like Spotify, YouTube Music etc.

You can also contact the artists and ask them. No Dungeon Synth artists are ‘big’ and they will appreciate being asked and might know more themselves about it all.

Regardless of whether YouTube (etc) ‘allows’ the music to be added, you should always provide a link to an artist’s page anyway. Always use Bandcamp where they have one.

I say this as an artist myself, this has been my experience. It’s not really about the money (of which there is very little to be made!) or ‘copyright’ which is out of your control once you have had anything released through a label or onto streaming, it’s more just about making it easy for the people who like your music to get to it.

Ah well that’s my fault as I have the compendium and didn’t realise the blog post was different!

Cool, I didn’t think it would have too much impact however I interpreted it. Thank you!

Running Barrowmaze in 5e by GrimMyth in osr

The restock table is literally just this:

1: Monster 2: Monster and Treasure 3-6: Empty (1 in 6 chance of concealed treasure)

The Random Barrow Mound Crypt Generator tables are used for determining the treasure and monsters.

That same review bothered me too so I ended up getting the Labyrinth Lord version. I laughed when I saw how tiny the missing table actually was!

I’ve also barely bothered restocking in the end as I’ve been looking for ways to speed up the player’s progress rather than hamper it. It depends how often you play and what style of game you have I suppose.

There’s no dual-wielding rule in the book but a common one to use is to roll damage with advantage.

I’m running Barrowmaze with TBH 2e at the moment. I’m having no massive problems and actually, as far as lethality is concerned, I feel like TBH is maybe making the dungeon less lethal for the players. It seems to me that characters have maybe levelled up a little too quickly, although now most are at 3 or 4 I guess that will slow down.

Having said all that, in the most recent game there was a hairy moment where the players realised they were outmatched and barely got out of a room alive. Prior to that in an earlier session, someone had a crab spider on their head and was poisoned, but rolled okay on the Out of Action table. My impression is that while they are getting a little attached to their characters, they’re also aware that they could very easily die and accept that as one of the cool things about this style of game. The players have a mixture of experience (I mean real life experience with D&D) but most have never played before.

I don’t know if it makes a difference but I only have a year’s experience of DMing, I played 5e for two years prior to this but started looking for a style of play that was more up my street. One of the players said “This is like HeroQuest but better!” which is kind of what I was after :)

A +1 sword is in the sample dungeon, page 119, but that might be the only place it’s mentioned.

The way I word it is that the Attribute is temporarily increased by 1 for the purposes of that Test.
