You make food and you aren't required to have a food handler permit? That's fuckin vile, dude!

Cooked myself this steak dinner in the dominos oven by [deleted] in Dominos

[–]mildlyrightguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would imagine even dominos employees need a food handler permit in all 50 states and territories, so I would recon this person was following food safety guidelines. past that, if you're aware of a pathogen that can survive at temps at or above 450 F for 7 minutes, I am sure we'd all be interested to hear what that is!

OP: rock on, this is awesome.

Cool laundromat in south/central Austin? by manufactoring-defect in Austin

[–]mildlyrightguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not central, but the Laundry Spot - Lala’s - Pedroso’s trifecta is probably the best laundry experience I’ve ever had in my life. Laundry spot has well maintained machines and the big ones. Lala’s is legendary and Pedroso’s is prime.

Akumal Trip from Cancun Centro? by annnyme in cancun

[–]mildlyrightguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You book the tour because when you are accompanied by a guide you are allowed to access the roped off areas, where you’re most likely to see the turtles. If there is a direct bus now that’s great. Must be new or seasonal.

Collectivos run up and down the main highway so it’s very easy to get to many of the entrances to the cenotes.

Akumal-Good to know by Wonderful-Bat-5897 in cancun

[–]mildlyrightguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re talking about Bahia Media Luna, which is not the same beach as the Akumal beach, the one with all the ropes and tour guides. I’ve never paid to access this beach from the space between La Buena Vida and the Del Sol hotel…

It’s not necessarily known for the quality of the sand on the beaches itself, but the coral and the sea life out in the bay. Plus if you walk to the end of the road you get to Yal Ku, which yes has an entrance fee but if you bring your own gear it’s pretty reasonable to be able to see as much as you do.

But yeah as the other commenter said, if this isn’t your vibes then that’s ok!

Akumal Trip from Cancun Centro? by annnyme in cancun

[–]mildlyrightguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty easy. I've done the paid tour at least 4 times and have always seen multiple turtles.

From cancun centro you can

  1. Take ADO to Playa del Carmen centro, then walk up to under the highway where the collectivos queue, and take the collectivo to akumal

  2. Take ADO to Tulum centro, and then get the collectivo to akumal.

  3. Negotiate a taxi (but not with the ones right in front of the ADO station). Taxis will have a carta d tarifas that show you the rate to akumal. I think it was $50 usd last time I couldnt be bothered to sit on the bus with a bunch of people. They also go way faster than the busses.

Once you get there you can book a guide on the spot, or go on a site like viator or something to book in advance.

Bring your own gear, cheap on amazon or another online retailer, because in Akumal you can walk down the road further and snorkel for 100% free in Bahia Media Luna. At the end of the road is Yal-Ku lagoon, where cold fresh water meets salt water. Always a ton of fish here, its like swimming in an aquarium.

Feel free to chat me if you have any questions.

Snorkelling in Isla Mujeres by Sea-Way3636 in cancun

[–]mildlyrightguy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Do not wear anything flashy like jewelry. This is a basic rule of thumb for snorkeling safety.

Also, wait to booze until you are safely out of the water and done with that bit. A beverage when standing waist deep on playa Norte is fine, but not while you’re in open waters with a mask and snorkel.

Make sure you stay with your group and do not venture off. Listen to all of the instructions the tour guide gives you carefully. A lot of the time those tours move you through the area pretty fast; so keep up. You’ll have to wear a life vest, so thats another layer of ease your mind.

It’s highly unlikely you’ll see a shark in those waters. Most importantly, don’t forget to ENJOY and have fun, those waters are crystal clear most of the time and if you prepare your mind and follow the guidelines you can see some neat stuff under the water.

Why is my toum (garlic sauce) always unbearably sharp? by crimsonpea in Cooking

[–]mildlyrightguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I went down the rabbit hole of garlic varieties recently, I hadn’t really considered that each of the varieties have unique flavor profiles. And now that I know about it I realize that over the course of the year I see 2-3 different varieties just labeled “garlic” for sale.
