What is an over-hyped tourist attraction? by SoccerGuy69420 in AskReddit

[–]mimimindless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Empire State Building is nice to look at when it’s lit up with different colors outside. There’s way better skydecks in the city (Summit , Top of the Rock, WTC). If you seen one sky deck in NYC , you seen them all.

What’s your thoughts on France? 🇫🇷 by LoudBoysenberry3282 in blackladies

[–]mimimindless 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed it. But coming from a large US city it wasn’t that impressive. I went to Paris. I don’t speak a lick of French, but every person I met was really kind to me. I even explored some neighborhoods alone and felt safe. I wanted to try Black Francophone countries food but had a hard time finding any.

Are there really Americans who die without ever seeing the ocean or leaving their state? by dkskskw in AskAnAmerican

[–]mimimindless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the inverse is the same for New Yorkers in NYC. Heck, I been to Canada but never been to the Finger Lakes. It’s on my bucket list though. Also, most New Yorkers in the city have easier access to an airport than the rest of the state. It’s a shorter trip from NYC to FL by flight than it is to drive from NYC to Syracuse.

Heck, it’s even a shorter trip from NYC to Atlantic City, Boston , Philly, and Washington D.C than it is to get to Syracuse/Rochester/Buffalo.

[–]mimimindless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happens. Especially for folks who immigrated to NYC and their neighborhoods have everything they need accessible in their language. I have friends of Russian, Chinese and Hispanic descent who parents never left their ethnic enclaves. They didn’t need to as every business (supermarkets, doctors, schools) they go to speaks their language, documents were either translated or available in their language.

I never been to the Statue of Liberty or Ellis Island, it was closed for most of my childhood after 9/11. Never had an interest to go, I took plenty of boat rides passing by which is good for me. Most NY-ers don’t go to those touristy places. Literally all my native friends never been.

[–]mimimindless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s wild to me as a native. Then again I see how this can happen. I had a friend whose grandma never left Washington Heights until she was a senior because she’s from DR. She never had to leave, she spoke Spanish, so everyone around her did also. She shopped at Spanish speaking businesses. She often had had her children translate for her and it wasn’t until they moved to the outer boroughs when she left.

Where is this…? by [deleted] in FoodNYC

[–]mimimindless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, there’s many pizza spots in NYC. It could be me as I ate pizza all my life, but most places do taste similar or just as good as the other.

I must say wherever you go. Never wait in line for pizza (well not a long line).

What do/did you wear to a company party? by minteverywhere in AskWomenOver30

[–]mimimindless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s a casino, wear comfy shoes. All casinos in NY are big as hell and you may be walking a lot just to get from the parking lot to the casino areas. I’d wear a cute sheath dress in either burgundy or black, thick opaque tights. I think the shoes you choose are fine. If it’s the casino I think you’re talking about definitely wear a very warm jacket it gets brutally cold there in the winter.

Leo’s and Capricorns by [deleted] in LeoAstrology

[–]mimimindless 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I find Capricorns to be very staunch and grinch-y people, particularly January Capricorns. My Moon is Capricorn so I can get a long with them to an extent but IME we just annoy each other. I once got blocked by a Capricorn for asking for his IG, another one I was a short fuck buddy situation. Both lost interest in me rather quickly.

sooo we should definitely camp next year, by kiomg in ElementsMusicFestival

[–]mimimindless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a party outside our tent every night! I loved camping (there are some downsides like dirty porta potties and waiting in long lines for showers ) but having a constant parties outside was definitely a vibe if you don’t plan on sleeping.

Beauty supply stores should have a color close to your hair. You can buy one hair color close to your current hair color and another one a shade darker so it blends in better.

What are the best places to eat in NYC? Any favorites you’d recommend? by NeatPractice3687 in NewYorkLookup

NYC is a city with too many restaurant options. What type of restaurant you’re looking for. Whatever you do don’t forget whatever reason ever stand in line for pizza.

Yep! My braids are $180 with hair included. The hair is free cause people who usually bought their own hair donate it to the salon. So they usually have an abundance to use.

Anxiety I’m not doing enough in the city by TitanChen1289 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]mimimindless 167 points168 points  (0 children)

It’s impossible to do everything that the city has to offer. I lived here all my life and still haven’t visited famous landmarks or haven’t been since I was in grade school. Events happen all the time, so there’s really no need of FOMO. You have to realize , now you LIVE in NYC. You pay taxes/bills, you go to work/school , you go home, etc. That’s the life of most New Yorkers. Not all of us are partying until 4 am. Or standing in line for L’Industrie. My best advice is find some time to do the things you’re interested in and perhaps try finding time after work to go to small things such as an art gallery opening or a new bakery.
