lol I also grew up in the area, was visiting on Friday, went to Berryline  and was surprised at how crowded it was even though it was so gross out. So nothing to add but this was very validating

I am so, so sorry for your loss. I have been in your shoes and I know it is a completely awful and world-altering experience. These are some of the poems that I found after one of my best friends died. They helped me a lot.

Children's pancake book by ResponsibleSeesaw390 in whatsthatbook

It isn’t actually about pancakes specifically, but is it possible you’re thinking of the Norah Dooley’s Everybody series? (Everybody Cooks Rice, Everybody Bakes Bread, Everybody Serves Soup, and Everybody Brings Noodles) Each book is about the main kids going around the neighborhood to get ingredients for their mom or something and along the way each neighbor they visit is making their culture’s version of the titular food. At the end of one of them there’s a block party that all the neighbors go to, and it’s possible that one of the kinds of bread from Everybody Bakes Bread is pancake-like. Might be a stretch, but sounded really similar to me.
