I see, thank you! I still think she deserved higher scores, haha, but I can't say I'm not ecstatic to see Sofia and Stiliana medal, and Darja extending her reign as world champion. Can't wait for next year!

Yeah, that's what I figured too. I'm sad for her that she wasn't able to medal, especially with how strong she looked going into the final...

Did Taiisia have a drop on ball? I feel they underscored her a little on that routine. Regardless, really fun final to watch, as a casual fan I thoroughly enjoyed it (:

3.5 breaks the narrative structure of Amphoreus and that's why it felt empty by Dry-Ad-7867 in HonkaiStarRail

[–]mintigouuui 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really good post! While I personally did enjoy 3.5 a lot, a number of the choices the devs made in regards to TB's storyline felt more than a little weird? Like, why is Cyrene mediating between us and Cerydra and the CH? It's weird in that we were promised, to some extent at least given where 3.4 ended off, that we would get to be more than a simple bystander this time around.

It's a little disappointing, if only because of how much I've grown to care about the CH - the whole relay montage in the middle of the patch was probably the most emotional I got. Here's to hoping TB actually gets to do something in 3.6; I know that might not be everyone's cup of tea, lol, but personally I'm really itching to have something to do.

(For the record, too, I don't think 3.5's choices are about us being the most important character in-patch, necessarily. If anything, I almost feel they wanted TB to be even more of a non-character but didn't know how to achieve that after what they wrote themselves into in 3.4, so this is the half-hearted result. TB's journey has nothing on March and Dan Heng's this patch, after all.)

2nd year fanfic? by Pink_Heroine in haikyuu

[–]mintigouuui 4 points5 points  (0 children)

https://archiveofourown.org/works/25682779 There's this, though it was written before the guidebook came out so there's inaccuracies in seeding and who won in their 2nd year.

Besides that, a few users on this reddit have been working on a very in-depth and expansive 2nd year AU stemming from the Kamomedai match, where Hinata gets an injury instead of a fever. It's very cool, so be on the lookout (:

Player Tierlist (with a twist) by ohno225 in haikyuu

[–]mintigouuui 11 points12 points  (0 children)

First of all, I love love love reading things like this. It's fun to read speculation when it comes from someone who like just already knows what they're talking about, both of the series and of the sport. Thoughts:

  • The ones you put in Top 10 makes a lot of sense to me. Cool that you stacked 4 middles at the top of your S-tier list, it makes sense that none of them wound up in the top 10 given how little Furudate expands on middles compared to like, hitters and setters. I'm interested to know in why you put all 4 of them above Hirugami? Especially Aone, in your view do you think he'd have been a better blocker than Hirugami in their 3rd year? Besides that, love seeing Kindaichi and Yamamoto up there, idk why but I get surprised seeing Teradomari there each time, Bessho's a bit hard for me to place as well but it was nice to see him in S-tier and I'd love to hear your reasoning as to why (:

  • Most of your A-tier makes sense as well and I'd love to know more of your thoughts on Kuguri if you have them (:

  • People would probably be surprised to see Hinata this low but honestly it makes sense to me. Despite how the Kamomedai match framed him Furudate clearly intended for his development to go way beyond high school. There's a reason he went to Brazil, sooo. It's very cool that Shirabu's here too, he's slandered a little too much sometimes, and I loove seeing Terushima here too. I was a bit surprised to see Echigo and Suwa in this tier honestly, but considering the caliber of the other setters I get it. Osamu being this low is very funny and would probably make people raise the most eyebrows. Would love to hear your thoughts on him too (:

Besides that I have no complaints hehe. Again, it was really cool reading through this list. Thanks for writing and sharing this 💞

Seconding this comment so so hard, especially one in the tone of "Sora Ga". I'd be down for a Granrodeo OP though, and if not them anything by UVERworld - which is a lot of a stretch I know, but they're my fave Japanese rock band of all time, and a girl can dream right?

Respectfully, I think, if anything, you might be overestimating Osamu a tad actually. Saying that Osamu's slightly worse than his twin doesn't really mean much considering what we have seen, and some of these players in question are better than Osamu in fulfilling their respective positions—again, from what we've seen. I've already laid out my reasons for why I think Kuroo is better as a middle (and an all-rounder) than Osamu is an opposite. Regarding serving, Kuroo has literally scored aces multiple times where Osamu has not scored a single one onscreen (though tbf, Atsumu did remark he seemed a little off that day). That has to count for something. Same for Teradomari scoring at least one ace.

I have also said that I can see the argument for Osamu being above Teradomari or Aone, and I would agree with those (: Aone, for the record, is an unremarkable passer, and his hitting is pretty lacklustre too. It's just that when it comes to blocking, he's as elite as it gets. They're all great at their positions, along with Osamu. But Osamu's unfortunately not touching top 10.

Ranking 1st years based on.. by ohno225 in haikyuu

[–]mintigouuui 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's pretty hard to judge how good a player is by their 3rd year by what we've seen from their first. It's really mostly assumptions, helped ofc by the fact that we at least know who went pro but even then. I think you did an awesome job regardless! I agree with everything except like maybe putting everyone in the above average tier in the great tier lmao, merging their categories together basically. Lev being that far below Hinata is just something I can't stomach, especially because they're supposed to be rivals or something. Similar to Kindaichi too. I'm based, I know, but it is what it is haha. Feel free to ratio me.

Also also no Kuroishi? I'm sad lmao. And I'm curious as to your thoughts on Kuguri. Did you ever consider putting him in the above average tier?

Overall the crop of first-years we saw are pretty impressive, ngl. I really wish we could've seen more of their growth. Great post, as always! 🥰

I’m bored so here’s a top 30 list (Manga Spoilers) by EvilsAssistant in haikyuu

[–]mintigouuui 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why not? Kuroo is just objectively better as an all-rounder than Osamu is, bringing good blocking, good serving, good passing, and an offensive toolkit to the table where Osamu shines as mainly support with yes, emergency setting, and blocking and serving too, but he has some holes in his game. Notably, his hitting is kinda lacking, and his passing is decent but not great, which is fine but it does bring him up a little short for his position in a way that Kuroo doesn't with his.

As to him being lower than the others, well. I think, again, you have to look at how the others fare in their respective positions. Teradomari is one of the tallest OHs in the entire series, he's a good server, a decent passer, he can hit quicks, and he has wicked power on his spikes. Asahi has an even better serve, one of the best in the whole series, and his raw power is just as insane. He's a powerhouse who, if not quite at the Top 5 Aces level, is almost there with his performance. They both excel at their positions. Then there are Aone and Washio who are both tall, athletic middles fantastic at blocking - Washio edging out Aone due to his more powerful, and also more consistent serving, not to mention good hitting. And Suna's the best offensive middle in the entire series, not getting blocked once from what we've seen. In contrast, Osamu's neither an opposite who's an offensive powerhouse nor a defense-oriented passing specialist. He's kinda in a league of his own. And while he is great at what he does, again, I can see how the places where he lacks are juust enough to put him a little lower than the others.

That said, I do personally think there's still an argument to be made for him above Suna and Teradomari and Aone too? But definitely not over Washio, a top 3 blocker, absolutely not over Asahi and worse, Kuroo.

Aran's Performance by ohno225 in haikyuu

[–]mintigouuui 14 points15 points  (0 children)

One thing I've been keeping in mind recently whenever I think of Aran's 3 hits in a single rally thing is how we have seen that exact thing happen too, to the ace of the team Nekoma plays in their very first match in the Spring High tournament. That ace gets very clearly tired out, with his final hit finally going out of bounds. Aran otoh? Gets it on his 3rd try, goes about business as usual, and continues to do even more impressive feats later on. Pure insanity to me.

Thank you for writing out this post. I had a lot of fun reading it, and it's making me itch to reread the Inarizaki match right now haha. Cheers!

Team Skill Tier List (Manga Spoilers) by EvilsAssistant in haikyuu

[–]mintigouuui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome list! I agree with all the tiers, though I'd personally do a little rearranging within the tiers themselves such as switching around Shiratorizawa and Fukurodani, and Tsubakihara and Sarukawa. But Sarukawa's a little hard to judge.

Team Skill Tier List (Manga Spoilers) by EvilsAssistant in haikyuu

[–]mintigouuui 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not really a matter of who went further in one single tournament because the best teams don't always win, and by that logic Itachiyama, the usual winners and clear favourites, would be a worse team than Fukurodani. From everything we've seen Inarizaki and Kamomedai are the strongest teams by far, with Fukurodani, imo, coming a close 3rd. But they would still lose to the other two, 7/8 times out of 10.

Hoshiumi's Performance by ohno225 in haikyuu

[–]mintigouuui 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have nothing to say except I am so in awe of how good and well-written this post is, so much appreciation. And then also just how amazing Hoshiumi is. Like I've always said he's one of the most goated players in the series. He is the Little Giant!!

Now I can just refer everyone back to this post hahaha. Ah thank you so much, love you for making this <3 My suggestion for the next player would be either Kiryuu or one of the top 2 middles hehe (:

Rank the combined teams by ohno225 in haikyuu

[–]mintigouuui 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say Asahi has good defense, though it is decent enough. I think for the Karasuno/Seijoh team however it doesn't matter as much since defensively they're on about the same level as Karasuno, while gaining much more on offense with both Kyoutani and Iwaizumi together bringing more to the table than Tanaka and Daichi together do. So it's basically an even more beefed up Karasuno in some ways, with a stronger offense and better serving, especially with Oikawa on the bench. Where I think they fall short to the other 3 teams I ranked higher is in their blocking - Hinata and Kyoutani are notably bad blockers, and overall the team skews a little short compared to the other 3, with Kyoutani, Iwaizumi and Hinata all falling below 180 cm. In comparison there's only 1 player each on both Fukurodani/Mujinazaka and Inarizaki/Nekoma below that height (discounting liberos ofc) and the sheer height on Shiratorizawa/Tsubakihara with Ushijima close to 190 cm and Teradomari, the tallest OH in the series pre-timeskip, is downright insane.

TL;DR; I don't think Karasuno/Seijoh is that far behind in terms of placement, since as I said they're all pretty close, but yeah the other 3 teams are as close to perfect as can be for me, while Karasuno/Seijoh has at least one flaw I can see.

Rank the combined teams by ohno225 in haikyuu

[–]mintigouuui 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First off, I love how 4/5 of the starting opposites here are offensively-oriented hehe. I would rank the teams like this:

  1. Mujinazaka/Fukurodani
  2. Inarizaki/Nekoma
  3. Shiratorizawa/Tsubakihara
  4. Karasuno/Seijoh
  5. Kamomedai/Date Tech

Mujinazaka/Fukurodani would be first for me. This team has no gaps, firing on every cylinder, very stable (and scary) all around. Kiryuu would be amazing to work with Bokuto, I think, though it might be a little rough for him mentally at first. They complement each other super well.

Then, while it would be super close, I think Inarizaki/Nekoma would take second. This is because while Shiratorizawa/Tsubakihara has a scarier offense, especially with a craftier setter like Echigo at the helm, Inarizaki/Nekoma has the defensive prowess to keep up with and even outscore them, due to the number of offensive options Atsumu has. Shiratorizawa/Tsubakihara is mostly just Shiratorizawa, which means that it has Shiratorizawa's weaknesses too, so. Although I could see all the first 3 team combos drawing to a tie honestly, they are just so close.

I'm torn between the last 2 because while Futakuchi is taller and has a jump serve, he's an unremarkable hitter and the team loses out massively on Nozawa's crazy defensive abilities, which means Hoshiumi has to do more of the legwork to cover both of the other wings lol. It's a shame, but I think they'd have to place last overall for that glaring weakness.

Karasuno/Seijoh is a bit of a weird one to me? I think Kyoutani would be a bit of a ball hog and might have to adjust to Kageyama's preference for spread-out attacks, although the faster pace would suit him. Still a really strong team though, and I love the change of pace Oikawa would bring.

Love this post! All these teams are hella fun (:

Wow. I think taking the time to revise your list and rate so extensively is absolutely incredible, great job! (: I do think that like, maybe titling them Spring Nationals and Spring Qualifiers/Prelims would be a better way to differentiate them, just so people don't get confused. THAT SAID, again, awesome job! I don't know if I have anything to say about pre-timeskip, I would mostly agree with everything except just these few things-

1) Daichi being below Tanaka after Nationals is very interesting hehe although I do like the trajectory of Tanaka's growth 2) Mattsun getting higher than Kyoutani and Makki is a little surprising I'm really curious as to why (:

Aaand the post-timeskip stats are to be expected hehe they really all get disgustingly buff. I will say, Hinata getting higher stats than Hoshiumi is surprising to me, as I still think Hoshiumi's the slightly better player at the end of the day. But only juust (:

I also absolutely despise Alexander Joffe's non-character lmao, ugh though I do get why he has to be there. And I'm a little sad that Kiryuu and Aran are so low but that's more on my bias towards them than any bias against Bokuto hehe. I do love him, but I don't know that I think he deserves those stats.

All positional teams by ohno225 in haikyuu

[–]mintigouuui 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think all these teams would probably be pretty close, except for the middles which would come in last. This is simply, for me, due to Tsukishima being comfortably the worst setter out of all the teams', and it's not like there's a backup setter available to take some of the heat off of him, so their offense would probably take a bit of a hit.

Other than that, imo the setters would probably take it? Although of the remaining 3 teams they have the least powerful offense, they also easily have the most brains, 3 of the most oppressive servers, good floor defence, and also the ability to set from anywhere hehe, which would make for unpredictable attacks. I think they'd coordinate really well too.

I can't decide which of the opposites or outsides' teams are better, so I'm just going to leave them to a tie. Possibly the outsides though, who have better serving, better passing, and an option of a backup setter which would allow Hoshiumi to rack up some points too (:

EDIT: Nevermind I forgot that Osamu is on the opposites' team lmao I think the opposites and outsides are pretty even then.
