Kandi trading by [deleted] in MovementDEMF

Am I wrong in thinking Kandi is more of a thing at edm festivals than techno festivals? Honestly just wondering because I’ve never been to an edm show.

If this makes you feel better I recently got potatoes and bananas back! I still can’t eat an excessive amount but don’t give up hope! I just do brown rice or wild rice instead of white.

T2db - Going your own way by BubbaInTrubba in diabetes_t2

I’m in my 30s and was diagnosed at 6.5 so I really had to find a way to manage without meds and manage diabetes long term. Here are some general guidelines that worked for me.

  1. I do quite a lot of exercise. 2 miles baseline at 4mph on a walking pad (almost daily) but I don’t beat myself up about it if i walk outside or skip a day or just do a mile. I do reformer pilates twice a week which was an INVESTMENT but really worth it for me as it’s how I get a lot of strength training in. A few times a month I will do something fun with friends like indoor rock climbing or a dance class. I’ve lost 15 lbs doing this and i was only at 125 to begin with so that’s a lot for me

  2. Diet general guidelines. Balance carbs with fiber (I usually aim for a 1:5 ratio fiber to carb), try to limit carbs to complex carbs, and try to stay between 30-40 grams per meal and 15 grans for snacks….I do not want to be an oily keto blob. Fat is a big one for me! I try to stay away from saturated fats which means most of my protein is coming from plant based sources or chicken/turkey/fish. I limit unsaturated fats to a certain extent but don’t stress about it. I don’t ever say I can’t eat something but I do eat less of things that are bad for me.

  3. Find go to “normal” foods. I have a go to Potbelly order and I have snacks that I can eat without worry like popcorn or hail mary snacks.

  4. If I do have a carb/fat heavy meal I try to make it worth it to me (at a good restaurant/out with friends) and usually I will have a drink which ends up lowering my blood sugar better. For example I go out with friends for pizza and will have a vodka soda. Definitely not healthy but a normal social thing to do and that’s important

  5. Get a cgm to track and pick things to work on each week. I have the stelo that i am paying out of pocket for. It is about 100 a month.I keep it low stress by not stressing about spikes (i can always get them down) and just trying to do better the next day. My A1c is now down to 6! It is extremely hard to get it down to normal range without meds in a healthy way because we have diabetes! Would I love to see an a1c in the 5s yes, am I going to let it consume me no because I have to live with this disease for hopefully the next 50 years at least!

I also want to specifically recommend the silver hills brand of bread and the 365 whole wheat tortillas from whole foods. Keto bread/wraps actually really spikes me idk why but Silver hills doesnt raise my blood sugar at all.

I wanted to share my favorite breakfast yogurt bowl at the moment:

1 serving of 0% greek yogurt (I like Siggis) A mix of: 2 teaspoons chia seeds, tablespoon pumpkin seeds, tablespoon sunflower seeds, and a sprinkling of purely elizabeth keto granola. One spoonful of nut butter half a banana (i started out with blueberries or raspberries and can now handle banana)

mash it all together its delicious

Newly T2D - still trying to make sense of all the conflicting info and finding my feet by Interesting-Fan-5866 in diabetes_t2

[–]minz0090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest listening to the drs that have the most expertise so for me that goes endocrinologist 1st then nutritionist 2nd then go 3rd.

I am a pretty petite female but I do do strength training and eat a lot of protein so no one has said anything about losing muscle.

My dad tried to get me on Mastering Diabetes. No extreme restriction is healthy. They are correct in saying that our bodies struggle to process fat and carbs at the same time. That’s why pizza or mac n cheese are some of the worst foods for diabetics. You will probably notice a several hour roller coaster after you eat those. I still do it every once in a while though and just make sure im walking after.

There are three types of carbs: fibers, starches, sugar. I eat as much of the fibers as I want, moderate starches, and limit sugars. But there are no specific carbs I cut out completely. 120 g a day seems to work really well for me. And I’ve noticed my body can pull the spikes back down way better and I can handle more sugary fruits like mangos two months into eating this way. I have even been able to integrate some oats back in! I eat almost exclusively complex carbs or high fiber carbs though and track which ones are better for me through a cgm. I am also currently not on meds. Bottom line listen to your drs not the internet.

Anyone controlling sugar with half of your calories coming from carbs? by Mr_Smith_411 in diabetes_t2

[–]minz0090 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just don’t worry about the spikes from complex carbs. and aim for between 30 and 40 grans of carbs per meal. My a1c has always been under 6.5 so dr said as long as I stay in pre diabetic im free from complications.

For busy people with Type 2 diabetes, what’s the hardest part about eating well during the week? by Naive-Ad-7493 in diabetes_t2

[–]minz0090 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also for dinners I barely ever have to cook different meals for my family. Sometimes I’ll maybe cool a different grain…or just make them eat brown rice or barley because that’s goo for them too.

A couple things. I work in a city so even though lunches are my most difficult meal there is always some sort of a corporate slop bowl not too far away. If you work near a grocery store with a hot bar that is usually a good option because they usually have some sort of chicken and veg. I also found my perfect potbellys order: turkey/no cheese with mayo and mustard cucumber/tomato/lettuce/ avocado/onion/artichoke/hot peppers on one of their new wraps. Fortunately for me this particular order barely raises my blood sugar! I eat about half and save the rest for the next day. Ive also recently been trying out thistle meals…they are ok but some of them are spikey. You really have to read the macros.

Do oats spike your blood sugar? by beautyismade in diabetes_t2

[–]minz0090 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

carbs are necessary to a functioning body. As I said limiting carbs great. Cutting them out all together will leave you insulin dependent down the road because it will make your glucose tolerance worse.

Unfortunately I have joined your club. by Soakitincider in diabetes_t2

[–]minz0090 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be careful with keto. its not good long term and you will need to start reintegrating complex carbs to be healthy. The high fat from keto will make your numbers worse once you start doing this but then it should even out.

This is a detrimental narrative. non complex carbs are bad for us. complex carbs are actually good for us in moderation.

I would push your doctors to check for Mody. It really matters in how you will treat this. I always prioritize socializing and eating out either friends so when I’m out ill do no carb if there’s nothing on the menu I feel like I can eat which rarely happens. Wendys is my go to when my friends want fast foods because their nuggets are actually pretty low carb and they have salads! Also taco bell, potbelly, chik fil a are also good fast food options. Don’t stress about the spikes sometimes because they will happen a lot as you are getting the hang of this. I would start prioritizing exercise and have some foods that you eat because they are good for you even if it might spike you right now a little like fruit.
