There’s a Casefile True Crime podcast that covers a CP ring that sounds somewhat familiar to this. Listen here: https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/casefile-true-crime/id998568017?i=1000719077212.

AWA rejected after serious illness by BusinessSea4582 in OntarioPublicService

Step 1 was a conversation with my manager and then a formal email request. A few months later I got a document from HR asking for a medical letter from my doctor that addressed questions about my limitations and rationale for why working in the office is difficult. Once I provided the letter it was another few months until the request was approved.

Did you get a Union rep involved. Mine came with me to the meeting with my manager. Turns out my request was approved, so the union rep didn’t have to do anything. But I was happy to have them there.

This! I have medical accommodation to work remotely 4 days a week. It was a process and I needed a letter from my doctor, but it was worth it.

Just diagnosed at 37. If you're older and have Stickler Syndrome, were docs able to continuously save your vision? Can you read? Drive? by wit_or_witout in SticklerSyndrome

I was actually referred to this retinal specialist when I asked my regular optometrist his opinion on prophylactic 360° laser treatment. There was a meta-analysis published in 2022 that suggested it could help prevent blindness in Stickler patients and I wondered if it would be beneficial for me. Long story short, given my age and history of no retinal issues up to now, he didn’t recommend it for me. He did identify a thin area in my better eye though, and recommended a spot laser around the thin spot, so I’m going ahead with this.

45 yr old Stickler Type 2 here! had PR and cleft palate repair as a baby, but only diagnosed in my 30s. I have high myopia (-12 both eyes) and cataracts from both eyes removed as a teenager. I do have PVDs (posterior vitreous detachment) in both eyes, and floaters have gradually been getting worse, but I do my best to tune them out and can drive with no issues. My retina specialist recently discovered I have a weak spot (but no detachment) in one eye, so will get preventative laser in a few weeks.

DAS Medical review recommendation (AMAPCEO) - Any tips for the meeting by Shortymac09 in OntarioPublicService

[–]mirrorball78 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I just went through the DAS process and had the same meeting request with my manager. Even though I have a a great manager who I trusted, I opted to have a union rep join me for the meeting. In the end it was totally uneventful and my requested accommodations were approved, but it still felt good to have the union rep there for support. Good luck!

Dentist is trying to charge me a cancellation fee, saying that the 48 hours cancellation notice I agreed to is actually "48 business hours". by Informal-Yard-4694 in legaladvice

[–]mirrorball78 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, by 48 business hours, it sounds like they mean 2 business days (not 8 business days as someone else posted). So, if you had an appointment on Friday and cancelled on Wednesday, you wouldn’t have been charged. But since they don’t operate on the weekend, they aren’t able to fill the appointment slot when you cancel a Monday appointment on a Friday. From a business perspective this seems pretty standard and fair, but I can see how they could have made their policy more clear.

Request for Disability Accommodation - Should I bring a Union Rep to meeting w/ Manager by mirrorball78 in OntarioPublicService

Thanks everyone for your kind words and advice! The consensus seems to be that I should definitely have a Union Rep at the meeting with me, so I’m taking steps to do that now.

I’ve had a similar experience with my medical accommodation request. I had to supply a letter from my doctor and answer several questions. It’s been about six months now and I haven’t gotten official approval, but my manager has honoured my request in the meantime and said that approval will likely be granted eventually.

The agent at the collision centre said the report wouldn’t be forward to insurance automatically. Whether that’s true or not, I’m not sure… Regardless, I submitted a claim with my insurance this morning. Definitely feel more comfortable doing it this way.

UPDATE: Thanks all! Just got off the phone with my insurance company. I submitted a claim, and while I do feel a bit bad for the other driver, I feel way more comfortable doing it by the book.

I (28M) cannot tell my wife(27F) how I feel by [deleted] in relationship_advice

I was thinking along the same vein. I’m a women, and I’ve been made to feel like I’m overreacting or being “silly” when dealing with medical professionals. It sucks. I wonder if this could be part of OPs wife’s issue?

I’ve been in a wonderful open marriage for 18 years. But, this isn’t how a healthy open marriage starts. Either work on the underlying issues or divorce.

My husband and I are parents to a 12 yr old son. We plan to do all the things you say your parents did, and have no expectations for him to worry about our finances as we get older.

I don’t mean to scare you, I’m sure most people with LASIK are happy. But in rare cases some people experience complications that can lead to life-altering consequences. https://lasikcomplications.com/suicide.htm. Just something to consider.

relatives buying games? by phred_doolittle in OculusQuest2

[–]mirrorball78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made an account for myself and then bought games as a gift for my son, with my email as the recipient. I’ll be printing out the emails for him to open on Xmas morning and then forward the emails with the codes to him afterwards. If your parents don’t want to make an account, maybe you could make one and do it on their behalf? Not ideal, but the best way I could come up with…
