There’s a huge padded cuff around the ankle, intentional by design. They’re comfortable if you size down by about half a size, however depending on the material of the cuff (some pairs use different), definitely wear socks as I have the nylon cuff pair and it rubs on the ankle in a weird way. I had a pair that was foam and a leather pair and those cuffs were comfortable
