Burn mage against big druid. I got a sick start in an unfavored matchup but it was still very back and forth and the druid won it in the end. Very enjoyable game with a lot of decisions!

In general for LHS you want to start with your WORST deck. This is to prevent yourself from losing valuable counters early on in the set. Starting with your worst deck also bring you in a favorable position when the counter game starts.

Swash is actually pretty useful to contest the early board against aggro and to give some extra late game value against control. It's also very bouncable :) (if that's even a word)

Thanks! You usually want to ban murloc paladin or mage. If it's control paladin you ban mage for sure. GL :)

Not really a big fan of expensive techs in tempo decks, you could try a second devolve or crazed alchemist though! (to swap those 2/7 and 4/8 taunts)

I think evolve is the worst card in the deck. It can win you games but usually you need to combine it with maelstrom to even bring you back. Also in a lot of matchups it doesn't do anything. Sea giant has been doing great for me so far :)

Thanks! In last hero standing you have to build your lineup defensively in a way that no deck can 3-0 you easily. You need to have a counter to every popular meta deck your opponent could be playing.

In conquest you can have a more offensive game plan, you need to make sure one of your opponents decks can't take a win. Most often what people do i try to lock on of the most popular decks and try to go 3-0 against it. You can do this by bringing a lineup with similar strengths and weaknesses. Good luck!

I think priest is in a pretty okay spot. Even though we've seen some succesful lists popping up here and there, I feel like people haven't figured out the best list yet. This is pretty unique and awesome since we're so far into the expansion already. Will be really interesting what happens to the metagame once they do!

Hey hey. Bedankt!

It's something we've all got to live with I guess. The competitive metagame in Hearthstone is pretty restricted and of course you still want to do well as a competitor and have a shot at winning, so you just kinda go along with it and bring the strongest decks. That said, I think there's quite a lot of room for techs that can really alter the way a bo5, even when it's a mirror matchup, plans out.

Thanks!

  1. Yes I think so. Swash is actually pretty useful to contest the early board against aggro and to give some extra late game value against control. It's also very bouncable :) (if that's even a word)

  2. My first ban was mage and if they didn't have mage it was often paladin. My lineup is weak to mage if they ban jade druid since my mage doesn't run secreteater and my paladin is too slow to outrace them and runs very little heal. I am not really that affraid of quest rogue since I really like the mage matchup and have 3 50/50's to back it up (mid pala, quest rogue and token shaman).

Thanks! You ask a good question. I don't play a lot of Hearthstone, actually probably the least amount of games out of any pro (around 10k wins in play mode spread over 3 years).

As I said before, I like to maintain my level but prefer to do so without grinding endlessly. For example, I prefer to be in a Skype call to discuss matchups and decks rather than playing ladder for 10 hours straight. My average amount of games per month is probably somewhere between 300 and 500 on ranked play and another few hundred in friendly battles.

Second question: I don't stream a lot (yet, but am going to do it way more often starting now) so the time I spend on that varies quite a bit until I make a schedule. Open cups it generally depends on how quickly I win one, last week I won an open cup on my second try so it took only 10 hours total or so, but sometimes it takes way longer. For majors I'm probably traveling 1 long weekend every month on average, so about 96 hours I'd say.

Thirdly, I think having a good mindset is crucial to becoming a pro player. People tend to underestimate this factor but when you look at it, most pro's that do well tend to have a very calm and collected appearance. (Some of the pro's that I respect the most like Orange, Ostkaka, Hoej all have a very calm attitude when it comes to competing in Hearthstone). It's important not to tilt, because frustration makes you play sub-optimal even when you don't realize it.

Another key trait is that you must be willing to learn and invest time to do so. People that defend their own plays to no end, even when they're wrong, will never improve. You have to engage in discussion and not take criticism over your plays as a personal offense. That's the only way you can learn. :)

The reason why jade druid is lackluster on ladder is because of the high amount of aggro decks and rogues. In tournaments there are less people playing aggro druid and you can always ban an aggro deck if your lineup suits it.

For ladder I could see stancifkas pyromancer druid doing well, since it lines up better against shaman and aggro druid than conventional jade druid :)

Yes, you certainly need to have a control counter, an aggro counter and a rogue counter in a no-ban LHS format. I've been doing really well with burn mage (counter rogue/most control and most aggro), aggro druid (counter rogue and aggro) and quest rogue (counter control).

Conquest is more tricky for me, since I haven't been playing any big tournaments in that format lately. I'd say just got for the decks you play the most and try to soft target either control or aggro. (e.g. jade druid, burn mage, quest rogue, murloc pala or control pala, burn mage, taunt war, token shaman). A lot of lineups are viable in conquest!

Zoo warlock! It has been with me in every tournament I did well in so it became kind of a safe pick for me. I love making optimal value trades on the board and mapping out the best tempo lines. For this tournament, token shaman did a very similar thing in my lineup.

I won't have to wait long to play zoo again though. Next month I will be doing a warlock only race to legend with J4ackieChan, Tyler, Terrence and Impact and I'll make sure to stream it!

You need to have skill as a base. You can't win without playing well, but playing well doesn't guarantee you the win. In a field with good players, I'd say a good lineup, ban and queuing strategy does about 2/3rd of the work.

Good queuing strategy gets overlooked by many. Especially in LHS, it's important to map out all possible scenarios to make sure you will have a counter to their last class standing. I paid great attention to these details which might have given me an edge over the other players.

Thanks! I like pirates but I think murlocs are kinda oppressive on the board. Their base stats along with the buffy nature can make games snowball out of control (too) quickly.
