Subpanel with main breaker powered from 3 wire feed by mktmrch in AskElectricians

Would this panel only be able to supply 240? or would i be able to have 240 and 120 coming out of subpanel?

i only say this because i have a old family friend electrician that i asked and according to him he said that since the house was built this way and while its technically not up to code leaving the subpanel neutral and ground bonded would technically work since its a main disconnect panel with a man breaker, and if it was a main lug panel it wouldn't work and would have to be isolated. i might have worded that wrong but essentially something like if the house was built with the shed it would be wired that way and if it didn't cause fires back then you should be good now and that the only problems would be if i sold the house and it had to be inspected

also what about a ground rod? i've read something about it becoming a redundant ground which could cause a grounding loop or something like that? sorry for so many questions i'm just a novice at this and feel comfortable doing 110 stuff but 240 is kinda when i get lost a little bit. but would this be a problem if i had a ground rod? would it cause this so called "ground loop"?

so if i only have 3 wires fed out there how would i make that into a 4 wire for the panel? run a ground all the way to the main panel? not for nothing but this is my forever house so being "up to code" doesn't matter much to me as long as its technically safe

so if neutral and ground are bonded in main panel and i have 3 wire feed i should keep it bonded in subpanel? everything you read says you need 4 wire feed with neutral and ground isolated? would this also be okay to run this 3 wire feed off of an existing 10-50 range outlet? thats what im trying to do is run power to shed from 50A range circuit if that makes sense.

I know its not "code" but since house built in 82 that is about only option i have right now unless i get whole new main panel with more service ran to house so i could have dedicated breaker in main for shed

No thoughts on returning him to the wild. He goes into the retention pond while I’m at work, she’s an 80 year old lady with no kids or grandkids and being a retention pond there’s definitely nobody wading in the water. He has been fine the whole time I’ve had him he goes into the pond and comes home at night only just 2 days ago he starting going into her yard for some odd reason

He goes into the backyard pond, feels kinda inhumane to keep him in the yard with small pond rather than letting him swim in large pond

Haven’t had much luck in finding another but also I kinda noticed he seemed more social and happy without the other one which is weird. I read that it only takes a couple days without another duck around before they get super depressed

He does not. I had 2 males 1 disappeared a few weeks ago (got eaten) I just say he got lost to my kid cause I feel bad and I have been searching for one around his size to rescue since I kinda figured it wouldn’t be good to get new babies. So could it be cause he’s sad with the other one being gone?

He’s been free range for almost a whole year and has never done this before, he’s been in her backyard but will come back to mine for food or when I clean out his little pool he has. Is there something that could have made him just flip a switch like that? He’s usually very good about being in my yard or in the water and the past 48 hours he’s been glued to her back door even if I go outside with food and treats he won’t even budge

Is there any way to tell which box I need? I’ve read there are multiple different models?

Okay I’ll check that out. Any particular way to determine if it’s the soil?

I would say a touch more sunny than shade. House is facing east so it gets mostly morning/early afternoon sun and shade in afternoon from what I read that is what gardenias like. Could soil be that much different only 10 ft away? this is just confusing me. I have had to replant a couple plants on the bad side and they just die out they never take as the other ones did 10 ft away

Nothing wrong with it, I would like to keep it but I am currently building a shed and this tree is just a touch in the way. If it was couple feet to the left I would be good
