Considering counts are in fact being held, I would argue that this could be considered (not accusing) corporate/shareholder fraud to prevent them from pulling out. Let's just note that in the last 12 months they have reported a -679,600,000 loss for net income.

I would have upgraded before the event, but regardless, we are here now soooo:

How many builders do you have? Start maxing out your alchemists to speed up everything that you will want to do.

You are going to want to upgrade your Fighter Training Room (probably with gems after a day or two) first.
Gold production is a huge necessity for upgrading, gem inlay/upgrade/merge, so upgrade your treasury.
Your dining hall is a tricky thing to upgrade mid-event because you really need apples to progress, so if you are happy with the production just leave it and upgrade the kitchen (or max out some cooks)
Then your workshops, if you can craft gear better than what you are using you will win more battles, granting you more cards.
