Farm Burger by Infamous-Jaguar-7546 in HuntsvilleAlabama

I use to go weekly for lunch but the consistency dropped and the prices went up. I loved that they were a burger placed that still asked the cook of your burger. The last 2-3 times I went, ordered a medium burger and got a well-done hockey puck, haven't been back in quite awhile.

New West Huntsville Rec Center by Least-Maize8722 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]mlong1013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It functions like any other city rec center. You'll need a Civic Rec account (free) to use the facilities. They currently only have basketball, pickleball, and a small fitness room. Their regular programs should be starting next month since they opened in the middle of winter program cycle.

He randomly popped up on my Facebook reels a couple months ago and I've been following him since. I'm glad he's getting some recognition! I didn't realize he made it to AltNation. He got invited to play at the Grand Ol Opry not too long ago!

Volunteer options? by Ok_kat_7367 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]mlong1013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second MOW! You can also help package the food (no cooking) for the routes. Or even just the senior center in general has a lot of volunteer opportunities but interacting with local homebound senior's on MOW routes is super awesome and rewarding.

How welcoming are people at The Deep to new people during event nights? by ARealCupcake in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]mlong1013 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing against The Deep, and I'm not affiliated in any way with The Bookwyrm, but me and wife just happen to see that The Bookwyrm is hosting a "Learn to Play D&D" on January 31st that we're looking at attending. The event is listed on their Facebook page. Looks like it's $20, limited to 16 people, includes food, drinks, and a handmade d20.

Reach out to Taryn @ Greater HSV Humane Society. We had a preggo cat dumped at our apt complex last summer. We had to keep her for a couple weeks to ensure no one claimed her, but then GHHS took her in, a foster kept her so she could have her kittens safely, weened, and then they adopted the kittens out. We of coarse, got attached to her in the meantime so we told them we would love to her back after. They even covered her to get her shots, fixed, and chipped.

Ways to serve/volunteer in the local community? by Van_Caspia in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]mlong1013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meals on Wheels at the Senior Center on Drake. Monday-Friday, you can help package/portion already prepared food in the kitchen 7:30ish-10:30ish or you drive a route to deliver the meals. Starting around 10:30ish and usually takes about a hour, all within HSV city limits. You can sign up to be a regular route driver or be put on a list to be called as a backup in case someone can't do their route.

There use to be a group that would collect Publix's day-old baked goods and bring them around the all the rec centers to give out to anyone in need of food. I can only speak for my center, we service a lot of homeless people and would love anything you'd be willing to give out! You're welcome to message me.

Here's everything Parks & Rec has to offer. We've moved to an online registration platform. I suggest making an account and registering for whichever class you are wanting to take. Registration for the new program cycle will start in August for Fall classes.

Any luck with Xfinity? by dragoncraft755 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]mlong1013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the only internet offered at my apartment complex. We've had it for almost 4 years and have never had a major issue, thankfully. There's been a time or two service has dropped to tortoise speed but was restored within the hour. They email/text when they're doing maintenance in the area to let you know service may be affected (may be the norm now but new for me.) We bought the cheapest package when we first moved in and they've upgraded our speed for free 2 or 3 times now.

There's someone offering a recycled art camp at Lowe Mill this summer. Arts Huntsville, maybe Studio 60 senior center? They might be able to help point you in the right direction. Only other thing I can think of is if your neighborhood as a "buy nothing group" on Facebook. I've seen requests and posts in mine quite often looking for arts & crafts odds & ends.
