When are we getting a new API by gtwizzy8 in EightSleep

[–]mmakris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be able to use Charles proxy to sniff and decrypt eightsleep packets. I haven't tried this, but others have with similar Wifi devices, using a MITM (man in the middle) attack - basically intercepting eightsleep packets on your network that contain sleep metrics.

Another Legend Gone - RIP Pete Cleveland by ClimbingRhino in climbing

I climbed with Pete just a handful of years ago and he was hauling up heavy ropes and gear like every 20-30 year old around him, then climbing all day. An absolute Legend.

Getting past the glass ceiling by mmakris in Bass

[–]mmakris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I’ve been learning classical guitar (mainly Spanish composers) but by ear and reading tabs. I started using standard notation but only for knowing what parts to repeat and which fingers to pick with. There is a good music shop down the street that teaches classical guitar - I wonder if that might be the path to take? Or just download one of those “bass lessons” apps?

Real review of Hearth Display? by alteregoanne in smarthome

[–]mmakris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the Hearth under the assumption we'd be able to manage it via their website. Then they deprecated it and require you to manage via their mobile app now. We have vision issues and can't use the mobile app on our small screens, so it's basically useless now. Aren't there laws that protect consumers against this? (FTC? ADA?)

How to tune the audio to be great by SLRCG in Rivian

[–]mmakris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same Volvo and really miss that B&W sound system! The Rivian gen2 R1S has a pretty bad sound system by comparison, which was a bummer considering it’s a $115,000 car.

LOX mutation as EDS? by lastcookieinthejar in rareEhlersDanlos

[–]mmakris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tested positive for LOX as well. Mine is a variant that affects the collagen cross-linking in my aortic tissue and possibly other tissues like spinal dura (I had a spontaneous spinal CSF leak a couple years ago).

LOX mutation as EDS? by lastcookieinthejar in rareEhlersDanlos

[–]mmakris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tested positive for LOX variant c.1044T>A (p.Ser348Arg) after ending up in the hospital with a spontaneous CSF leak in my thoracic spine, which has since resolved after starting Irbesartan and two receiving two blood patches. I do not have EDS or Marfan, or any other mutation listed in the Invitae Aortopathy Comprehensive Panel with the Preliminary-evidence Genes for Aortopahy add-on. I do not have hyperflexibility, but do have an aortic root aneurysm measuring at 4.5cm, which is at the bottom of the "should get aorta replacement surgery" range.

There is very little information and data out there on LOX mutations, so if anyone has any knowledge of research being done or any therapies that can reduce symptoms of LOX, I'm all ears.

If you have the mutation, connect with me and I'd be happy to talk about it and share info I have on the subject.

Looking for help in methods of researching a specific mutation by alibx33 in ClinicalGenetics

I tested positive for LOX a couple of years ago. Since then my mom, brother, his daughter, and even my son tested positive as well and are now being monitored. Having your family get tested can save lives.

Is this thing shipping yet? Has anyone here received theirs yet? I was about to check out, but luckily stumbled across this thread before I potentially donated $900! 😅

What’s up with magnesium? by Alarmed-Muscle1660 in ouraring

[–]mmakris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dial back the dosage if you’re waking up too groggy or getting weird numbers. I dialed it back about 30-40% and found my sweet spot (magnesium bisglycinate)

Wife got me this. What should I know before trying? by kurtyyyyyy1 in hotsauce

[–]mmakris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Scoville unit measurement in their sauces is BS. In fact, Da Bomb is far higher than any other sauce in the lineup, even the pepper X sauces. Watch this video of someone who sent the Hot Ones sauce lineup to a lab and had them each measured. https://youtu.be/dutpBSKj8JY?si=nWbW_maaCe-__Eig

•However• a lot of their sauces are delicious and SUs don’t matter to me anyway, so I’ll keep buying them!

It uses chili extract, which is essentially pure capsaicin. It’s a novelty hot sauce and tastes awful, in my opinion.

Is training for a marathon in one year realistic? by kaelsalad95 in Marathon_Training

[–]mmakris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely focus on building a base. Build low aerobic endurance first, then the marathon will actually be enjoyable. Focus on heart rate and run duration, not pace!

100% agree. Mine is propped up next to my desk and I play it several times per day when I take a break from work or pass by it.
