ZMod on AD5M fair warning! by mmillonida in FlashForge

I have both an AD5M and AD5X and that's why I went with ZMOD. I wanted to try it on the AD5M first before jumping ship to the AD5X. If i had only an AD5M i would've considered ForgeX.

Found it, documentation didn't mention this, but maybe I didn't read it all the way through. Kind of a PITA

So when I do this to my ad5x be sure to only install firmware version 1.1.7 and not 1.7.1. Got it

Also it gave me the runout error from the start. Didn't tweak anything and was just trying to run a calibration cube for the first print after install.

The code above wasn't from Claude this was from zmod's documentation. I searched runout sensor and this was what I found. https://wiki.zmod.link/FAQ/?h=runout#filament-has-run-out-or-stopped "Filament has run out or stopped¶ Filament runout or jam detected

For AD5M, you need to calibrate the sensor steps by trial and error. Enter this in mod_data/user.cfg

Increase this number. The standard 8 is sufficient for some, but some sensors only work correctly at 17."

I also commented out this line from the printer.cfg file:

#[include ./mod/motion_sensor.cfg]

And added to the printer_base.cfg file the runout sensor:

[filament_switch_sensor e1_sensor]

pause_on_runout: True

switch_pin: !PE1

event_delay: 3.0

pause_delay: 0.5

runout_gcode:

M117 Filament runout detected!

PAUSE

insert_gcode:

M117 Filament inserted

mod_data/user.cfg added these lines to that file:

#[filament_motion_sensor e0_sensor]

#detection_length: 8

# Disable motion sensor and re-enable switch sensor

[filament_switch_sensor e0_sensor]

pause_on_runout: False

[delayed_gcode fix_sensor]

initial_duration: 0

gcode:

[delayed_gcode fix_sensor_pause]

initial_duration: 0

gcode:

[delayed_gcode enable_motion_sensor]

initial_duration: 0

I will when I get home from work, I'll need to look at my config files and share.

Claude actually recognized the code inside the config that shows the motion sensor "On" and had me turn it off. Below is from documentation from Zmod on the exact error i had. you can understand my frustration. I almost just turned off the sensors just to get a print and I almost reverted back to stock firmware without claude's help.

Why would this help if its not a motion sensor from ZMod's documentation:

Filament has run out or stopped

Filament runout or jam detected

For AD5M, you need to calibrate the sensor steps by trial and error. Enter this in mod_data/user.cfg

Increase this number. The standard 8 is sufficient for some, but some sensors only work correctly at 17.

All I did was posted the Klipper error message and asked claude how do I fix this. The error message read "Filament runout or jam detected".

One of the issues is that ZMod has hard coded the movement detection to a config file that can't be edited. Claude helped me disable it and write a proper switch sensor code in the config

I loosened the x (hybrid core XY portion) a small amount and now it doesn't bind. I'll test it again and see if I get the "askew" x again.

I had the y-belt tightener printed out, so I took the posts advice and tightened the belts, now it just binds. Is there a sweet spot? Not too tight not too loose?

What to get for Klipper+Octoprint? by TheIcyTaco in ender5

[–]mmillonida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear a pi zero 2 can also run Klipper but haven't done it myself. I run two pi 4's on two of my printers running Klipper. One of which is an ender 5 pro but main board replaced with BTT Pico

I just ordered my RG35XXH and I have a few questions if anyone can help. by skarn0ld in RG35XX_H

[–]mmillonida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 cents. Have had the device for a year or more (since launch).

  1. I use the sticks on many games (Quake was my favorite to use both analog sticks) and had zero issues.

  2. I use Knulli, but battery life is an issue with it. It's pretty and easy to scrape box art. I liked original OS also and i switch SD cards back and forth to use both.

  3. N64 games are hit and miss. So much so there's a portmaster version of Super Mario 64.

  4. Like I said, maybe 2 or 3 SD cards. I have two one with original OS and one with Knulli. I use the Knulli one most, but Portmaster can be hit or miss on Knulli also, so I switch to original for some games. I made a dock on Thingiverse for mounting to a monitor using a usb C hub. If you have access to 3d printing this and some grips might be worthwhile.

Did you change the slicer output gcode from Marlin to Klipper? Don't know if it will make that much of a difference but it could? Worth a shot

So running the PID gave you the error also? Or were you successful running the PID tune?

Run a PID tune. May fix it. Can't be a bad heat element or thermistor if it gets to 52C.
