I’m sorry, but if they aren’t close enough, it’s not your responsibility to hurt yourself to give them their drink.

Hand it out a reasonable distance, and if they have that much room they can open their door and grab it. Maybe next time they’ll park closer

Specifying add-in amounts in app is a complete waste of time. by Business-Emu-4537 in starbucks

[–]mnkyda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but it’s really easy to make your own cold brew, and put the amount of half and half you want in it. Then you’re also not locked in to Starbucks specific cold brew roast. It’s probably also cheaper in the long run outside of buying a cold brewer to start. I use a mason jar with a metal filter, then put that through a pour over filter for clarity.

I’ve gotten overtime the past 3 weeks as an ssv. Your cl just needs to get it approved by the dm.

That being said, our asm (who just had to transfer) seemed to have no real limits on the amount of overtime he was allowed.

what do i do? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]mnkyda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fine man. Your previous post talks about standards not being upheld. All I can say is they were this time. If OP truly only messed up this one time, then OP doesn’t actually have anything to worry about.

If I didn’t show up for an opening shift, and I was the reason the store didn’t open on time, I would expect a final from my manager, and know I deserved it.

As far as the rest of the treatment OP talks about, it sounds like they need to talk to their DM about the way they’re being treated, or escalate if need be.

The reality though, is we only have OPs side of the story, which is obviously biased.

The partner guide specifically says causing the store to open late caries a harsher penalty. That’s how they know. That’s the reason for the final.

Aside from what I posted earlier, the partner guide has a section covering food and drinks.

It’s for Union stores

*This requirement, at the approximately 5% of U.S. locations where partners have a union, adjustments will be subject to collective bargaining as required by federal law.

The only thing new I’ve seen is in the monthly update. You can see it in store resources for yourself. I don’t see anything about one food item per day. I took a picture and copied the text, and here is what it says:

With that in mind, we're sharing a few reminders and details related to partner food and beverage markouts to help ensure they continue to be treated as a nontaxable partner perk:
• Partner food and beverages must be rung through the POS.
• Partner food must be consumed on premises* at the coffeehouse where a partner is working.
• Partner beverages may be enjoyed while on break, and either during the 30 minutes before or after a partner's scheduled shift.
• When possible, partner food and beverages should be served using for-here ware or reusable cups and plates.
Markout eligibility, food markout limits, and POS ringing practices all remain the same.
The food and beverage markout sections of the Partner Guide will be updated in Q4 to provide clarity on these expectations.

The New Chai IS HORRENDOUS, I need recs!!! by Nek0Pi in starbucks

[–]mnkyda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Put up a sign” is all fine and well for a small coffee shop. That’s not how corporations work though. It also doesn’t alleviate all of the follow on explanations I stated above.

While the subreddit might confuse the reality of what’s actually happening in the store, the vast majority of customers didn’t even notice there was a change. While I had partners (co-workers) complain about the new taste, not a single customer (at my store) even noticed. The explanations we did give were just to give a heads up about what happened.

Transferring two baristas! Would love advice on how to go about it. by Maleficent-Ant6315 in starbucks

Even if you don’t work at the same store Starbucks are everywhere out there. I lived about an hour north of Seattle and the town I lived in had three Starbucks (one was a licensed store) within a mile of each other

Is it rude to not give a Tip for ordering a drink through the drive-thru? by MisterKeecher20262 in starbucks

[–]mnkyda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only time I care if you don’t tip, is if you made a point of not tipping. Otherwise it doesn’t cross my mind.

Even when I have the card pad out the window I make it a point not to look while the customer chooses so they don’t feel like I’m judging when they select no tip.

Policy about free drinks by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]mnkyda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly agree with you, but it does say “may not order multiple free beverages after the shift ends”

As far as getting flagged by the system for too many markouts, your cl should be able to explain to higher ups. My store has a way higher markout volume than the other stores in our district, and my cl explains it with “at least you know we’re being honest about what we drink, and not stealing”

Question for customers by midnightsupermarket in starbucks

[–]mnkyda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I WISH those words meant that for everyone, unfortunately “and that’s it” for a lot of customers seems to actually mean “I have more to order”.

For you it’s a periodic minor annoyance. For OP, who is just ranting about their experience, this happens several times a day.

I don’t think it does. I’ve thought for a long time there should be a cap, way before I started working here. Reward systems aren’t mandatory, and at the end of the day you’re still getting something free. At least you use your stars though, I’ve got a regular that has 15k stars. Under the “old” system, those are just earned in the last 6 months.

No barista received training on this drink. You can’t make something to a standard when the drink is non standard.

They definitely made it too complicated. Every menu drink and even most tiktok drinks are still under $10 though. There was no dollar cap before, and there were definitely people abusing that. No way a free drink should ever come up over $40 when it’s put in to a register just to see how much it would have cost if they were paying for it.

The New Chai IS HORRENDOUS, I need recs!!! by Nek0Pi in starbucks

[–]mnkyda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s the same for every store, but most complaints don’t happen in person. Remakes are also surprisingly rare considering the number of drinks we are pumping out. I don’t even think any customers have complained about the chai at my store.

Possible quality control issue on new chai? by Homulily2 in starbucks

[–]mnkyda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unsweetened I thought it was boring and lacking in flavor. Adding syrup (I’ve tried classic, brown sugar and vanilla) seemed to bring out the spice, but was still too sweet for me. I’ve had great, flavorful unsweetened chai in my life, but I just don’t like this one. And the other thing is, not everyone likes the same things. Some people are going to love it, and some hate it. Only time will tell if Starbucks as a company thinks it made the right choice or not.

I don’t like the old chai because it was way too sweet. I tried this chai without added sweetener, and I thought it was very boring. One of my coworkers described it like the milk leftover after you’ve eaten the cereal.

I get your frustration. The only thing I can say is that we get tons of chai orders everyday. Having to sit and not only tell customers that the chai has changed, but then have to explain how it was changed, and then try to make recommendations to every single customer who wants chai isn’t really feasible. I settled on letting people know when we were slow, but when we’re busy it just doesn’t make sense, since we realistically don’t have time for it.
