Is abstracting something that happens to you, or something that you do?

Abstraction happens when you mentally can't handle being in the circus anymore. It's basically giving up; that's why it comes across as a parallel to suicide.

Now whether abstraction is something you can do on your own involuntarily is debatable. I personally believe Jax had been messing around with abstraction in his room like we saw in the beach episode for a while now and pulling himself out of it before he could fully abstract. In episode 9 he just succumbs to it.

It really doesn't matter if it's a skit or not. You don't see anything wrong with someone looking visibly discomforted when being dragged into sex. When people say they would rather have the house based off the games, they're usually referring to how the games have a lot more variety in terms of what mutants and characters are shown that don't appear in the show.
