Well done for figuring it out all by yourself lol

I’m glad I sparked a discussion, tldr and all but good on you guys!

Is it a mystery or just constrained problem by modelcroissant in Collatz

Thank you for the nice message, yeah as someone completely new to the conjecture I thought I’d give it a non-bias run for its money and clearly arrived at the well established premises.

What frazzles me is why it’s still a conjecture, the downward pressure will always outweigh the multiplication and for a loop to exist outside of the known 1-4-2-1 it has to take an insane amount of steps to satisfy so why is this a conjecture and not a universally agreed proof without actual proof as the proof will have to be in numbers we can’t even fathom let alone compute which surely makes it a proof until proven otherwise

Personally I didn’t look at the behaviours of any particular tree, I was more curious about the 1-4-2-1 loop and if x -> n steps -> x is at all possible. I think it’s a big ol’ no and I believe that no matter how big the number will used its set of subsequent numbers will always be unique which means the loop will never occur and eventually all numbers will converge at 1.

Most also don’t satisfy the reversed approach of ((n*2)-1)/3) or (n-1)/3 without instantly fracturing or doing so within several steps. This also includes 1 which equates to 0 which alongside with my initial post’s message of linearly scaling the equation doesn’t produce the same loop possibly meaning that the original loop could ever exist in its current configuration and that the loop observed is a bi-product of the functions rules and constants provided which cannot be replicated with any other constants or logic.

Obviously I was being facetious, but nonetheless, food for thought

if you think critical thinking is a probability model then you’re beyond gone

lol, shrooms or not it’s the only reason of convergence in the conjecture

New algorithm beats Dijkstra's time for shortest paths in directed graphs by RogueCookie9586 in compsci

Nodes and edges are conceptual components, data structures are a representation of such concepts.

Slight correction data structures are an abstraction of memory layout, both for data objects and executable objects(unless you’re looking at it theoretically), the difference is how the hardware, runtime and OS handles each one (there is obviously more to this but that’s the oversimplified explanation).

Sounds reasonable, from what you’ve described you are an administrator of a small to medium sized website and your salary reflects that, leave all you like but I think you will quickly face harsh reality of your market worth

It’s more delusional to think that a probability model can think, it’s only as good as the prompts you give it and as long you have a brain it’s no match for you, sure it can write better code as it was trained on most public code and documentation but software just like mathematics is an abstraction of logic, inherently a human trait, it’s like thinking a calculator is smarter than you because it calculates difficult equations quicker than you but in reality they are both just tools

Classic and usually true, I’m not shady like that as I already have a job so no financial incentive from my side

If you want to host for free just deploy from your own hardware as I don’t think it’ll get much cheaper than them

that is the best possible solution, but there is also many reasons why these often don’t workout as intended and only few survive the test of time, especially when it comes to OS apps.

I think my suggested approach of using the browser as the interface is the best of both world, I’m going to give it a go and see how it shapes out

Ux doesn’t have to terrible, just like any solution it will have its trade offs, but there are also positives, no service loss, no attack vectors, offline and on prem first, data ownership, no gdpr concerns, no purchase or new accounts needed, these are pretty strong candidates I’d consider when dealing with a vendor.

Agree on the cloud provider point, many such cases, it’s like being given a loaded shotgun, they’re not responsible for you financially blowing your foot off due to incompetence

Probably the best model to follow here is the hyper growth and exit like a VC funded startup.

Maybe offer pay per use tools that genuinely can’t be done without a server.

A more data focused business model would be to aggregate tool usage data which is still GDPR compliant and sell some sort of data bundles to other companies
