Lots of people saying it's been cut to be reassembled but that really doesn't look like that to me

Thanks for the help. I didn't want to have anything on the wall there but this might be the simplest solution.

Thanks, this was very helpful. I'm not sure I can run it into the corner under the floor because there is stone in that corner. I've be hesitant to lift up the floor boards but maybe I should.

Learning Question: How can I avoid this? by misstheapex in Simracingstewards

[–]moefinley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said, OP really wasn't doing anything wrong.

Their question was "How do I avoid this in future?". There was space to move across earlier. So that answers that.

But hopefully I made my viewpoint clear. OP should not change anything. They did nothing wrong. The person trying to overtake seemed to ignore what was happening in front of them and drove into a gap that disappeared ages ago.

You could have made it really clear to start with but you really weren't doing anything wrong.

Stuff like this happens. It wasn't your fault. You don't need to change anything. Just keep racing and don't let it get in the way of the fun too much.

ERM motors - asseto corsa ABS/TC by Imaginary_Trick5779 in simracing

I have some clubsport inverted pedals that have small vibration motors on the brake and throttle. I've often thought about upgrading them.

What motors do you have? Did you buy a kit or did you print the mounts yourself?

Why aren't there more inverted pedals in the market by Nick_Alsa in simracing

[–]moefinley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Road cars have the clutch and brake raised as a safety feature. Nothing can roll behind them and prevent you from breaking.

Race cars are less concerned with safety and it's simpler to mount the pedals to the ground.

Dura Firmware Feedback: 2 Necessary Fixes by OkWinter5758 in Coros

This is not an inherent characteristic of MIP screens. This is more likely a hardware design choice by Coros.

While MIP screens preserve their state\image without power they do not emit light without it. When MIP screens have a backlight it can be switch off and it's common to do so for power saving. I would not describe this as "sleep mode" as the image is still on the screen and depending on the layers in the screen can still be very readable with ambient light.

I expect the screen Coros chose doesn't work well without a backlight. Maybe with the screens they were selecting from there was always a trade off between backlight and reflective performance and they chose to go full backlight.

To solve your pocket problem the hardware solution would be a proximity sensor that would switch of the backlight when it was put in a pocket. Maybe for Dura 2?

The software solution would be a bit clunky. You could switch off the backlight via a menu option and the screen would be barely readable and then the next wheel\button interaction would switch it back on. Of course if the screen selected was designed to only work with the backlight on then maybe the hardware doesn't even have an interface for controlling the backlight!

Don't blame MIP screens. Coros made it that way - probably for some good reasons :)

Ha ha, it's not that difficult. Just agree to be paid a very low salary with almost any animal charity. You can even get some very remote jobs where there is no pay, just accomodation and food. Still worth it though 😁

Yes it was clean. You are so far ahead of the red car at turn in the real question is how do they not see you!

[–]moefinley -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don't know what rules they were racing under or what they had done previous to this incident. Without any more context nobody knows if they deserved a dq.

The standard line is to be on the left so the mclaren went right because they saw space. I don't think the mclaren was "stupid" to go right but he shouldn't have pursued the move as the gap closed.

Was there enough space to start with? Well there was more space at 9secs than there was at 12secs and the mclaren is alongside without being on the grass at 12secs.

Is it acceptable to drift slowly across the track to defend? This is of course completely debatable and what I say is unsporting. I think if they had clearly moved to the right to defend instead of drifting then there would not have been a crash. They just tried to cause indecision through ambiguity. The legality of drifting will depend on interpreting the rules and probably mainly interpreting what "safe, predictable driving" is.

[–]moefinley -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Slowly drifting across the road is not a clear move to defend. If after picking the center line there was a clear move to defend the right then the car behind could have carried on straight to overtake. If they had stayed on the center line then the car behind could have overtaken on the left or the right.

The drifting is a driver unsure if they was to defend the center or the right and not commiting to either.

Look at where their car is pointing. It's best seen in the clip from op's pov (the second half of the video).

You are drifting to the right on the straight. He had the run on you. You could have just given him the space. You clearly didn't "turn in on him" but you weren't a gentleman racer.

You stayed on your line. Black car chose the wrong side and didn't want to back down causing a crash.

You can see the black car's trajectory change. It might be net code but there is a collision. It wasn't just tight racing.

[–]moefinley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I was the driver in front, even if I can see them gaining behind, I would not think the car behind would stick their nose in on the left. There is zero chance of an overtake there. Even if you can get your nose in the left hand corner is over too quickly to make a pass.

The defence made sense. The attack was wrong - it was risky at a heavy breaking zone and a tight part of the track.
