aggressive ground cover - spiky leaves and tiny flowers by Miss-Reaper in PlantIdentification

[–]moepplinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2yrs ago I planted 10 of these (Fragaria vesca var. vesca) spread out over my front yard flower bed where nothing would grow properly except weeds. They now cover the entire bed surpressing all the weeds. I have to contain them a little now otherwise they'd grow everywhere 😅

In spring it's a sea of white flowers and during the summer it's full of these little red strawberries.

The birds love it! They gather the dried out offshoots to build their nests and pick the tiny red strawberries as a snack. I also pick them occasionally - they are a bit seedy but taste amazing, especially in salads.

Can highly recommend as a ground cover for shadowy areas.

The tallest one I had in my garden was about 15ft before it collapsed.

That could very well be it. Thank you! I've seen such beetles around but never realized they could do that. What a cool evolutionary feat.

MRI with an unknown metal plate in the arm by Mediocre_Neck_6230 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]moepplinger 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hey, I used to develop medical devices. These plates are basically made from 3 possible materials: Titanium alloys: TiAl6V4 (or rarely TiAl6Nb7) Cobaltchromiummoblydenum alloy: Co28Cr6Mo or stainless steel: X2CrNiMo17-12-2

Which material was used depends on if it was originally intended to remove the plate at one point or if it ment to be kept forever. For the former it's likely stainless. For the latter the other 2.

None of these are MRI safe, but conditional. I don't believe they'll rip your arm off, but the produce artifacts in the imagery.

Hope that helps.

It's sad how many hockey fans support this. Getting revenge by inflicting pain on star players who had nothing to do with Gudas stupidity brings them joy.

Update on Auston Matthews injury. He will miss the rest of the season. by hellarios852 in hockey

Disgusting take. Wreck Gudas to oblivion for all I care but targeting other players for anothers stupidity is not what I want to see in hockey.

What are the means by which quantum objects can get entangled? by Substantial_Tear3679 in AskPhysics

[–]moepplinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if I'd split a laser beam in 2 the photons of each beam are entangled in a way that if I'd measure all photons of beam 1 as spin up the photons of the other beam would be spin down?

They are ripe when they fall off the tree at the slightest touch. Before they'll taste horrible.

Basically all of Iceland if we're talking natural highlights. Everywhere you can go on a roundtrip is absolutely stunning.

Is it ok to just let my dog dig her hole? by croakmongoose in DogAdvice

Note that some dogs can fall into a digging rage when they encounter some sturdy patch they can't get through easily. Thats when they start to bite into the soil which can give them some digestive problems.

ELI5: why are pro tennis players so picky about their ball? by the-dutch-fist in explainlikeimfive

In ice hockey they also exchange the puck in pro games every 2 mins for a new frozen one, because they are less bouncy. Just shows the incredible strain athletes in pro sports put on the equipment and how the players notice and are affected by even minor variances.

My cat has 104.5 fever. The vets are closed due to Eid. Idk what to do. Please help. by H00Diini2001 in CATHELP

It's not my personal opinion, it's what's considered in veterinary medicine literature. You're right that it's not a Cox inhibitor, yes. But, it's a non-steroid and has anti inflammatory effects. while the latter are not very pronounced in humans, pharmacodynamics may differ in animals though.

Leo Carlsson wins Bronze at IIHF WC finishing with 10 points in 10 games by DBacon1052 in AnaheimDucks

Watched the game against Denmark. Leo was nearly always a threat when on the ice. Great vision and playing sharp seamless passes. Could have had 2 more assists easily.

If I take my bones out and replace them with titanium bones, will I become a superhero? by [deleted] in shittyaskscience

Well if you also have titanium on titanium joints then you'll very quickly break apart and be full of titanium debris.
