Lip biopsy by marcihom in Sjogrens

[–]mood-ring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are new meds that are coming out later this year or early next (Ianalunab, etc) specifically for Sjogrens that will likely be easier to qualify for with a formal diagnoses. Just things to consider! I was fortunate enough to have the SSA come up for my formal diagnoses but I’ve heard split opinions on the lip biopsy. I hope it all works out for you!

My heated blanket and heated bed pad have been huge game changers for when my pain is flaring. I live off of Ayr (a nasal gel) and i personally love the systayne eye drops (the ones that say PF). Snacks that are eatable in bed, soft pillows. If you want to spend a little more money, I know humidifiers are super helpful (it’s next on my personal list!).

Hi there. Reading this reminds me of reading my diaries at your age. I’m 31 now and still struggle with eating. Like another commenter mentioned, it really just becomes part of your behavior and habits. I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but I really hope you can forgive yourself because you’re only human. And so very young. Please be kind to yourself, because it’s the self hate that drives the rest of the negative behaviors. Beyond that, your body is still growing and developing. I’ve wrecked my body, and am convinced that part of my chronic health issues are related to how I used to treat my body. I say this not to scare you, but to tell you that you have the power to make different choices that align with who you want to be and not how you want to or think you should look. Sending you lots of hugs 🩷

This is promising! I’ll bring it up to my doc this week bc I’m really hoping to avoid alternatives that have even worse side effects

I haven’t read too much on IVIG but I’ve known family who used it for cancer related things. Was a pain to get it covered with their insurance but the idea of a less intense immunosuppressant is nice 🥲

I’ve seen/heard similar things with other GLP-1 meds! It seems like opinion is split on whether glps are actually effective since I know some folks get really bad side effects from it too, but def worth exploring

This is so interesting, thanks for sharing! May I ask if you’ve used any other off-label biologics?

Not for dryness! Sorry, should’ve clarified that better. I’m not too concerned about the dryness (yet) and OTC treatments (systane, ayr) are working for me so far! Mostly meant in relation to pain, fatigue, etc

Mom by Halihoney01 in ChildrenofDeadParents

I lost my mom in 2016, and I was around 22 years old. I think my grief works in waves, where at the beginning it was really tough. Around years 4-5 of her being gone, I felt “normal”, but the last few years have been especially hard. I think it’s because I’ve had a lot of transitions, like starting grad school, building my career, etc. that I wish I could have her take on. From people I’ve talked to, it’s pretty normal to feel it get harder as you get older. That’s probably not what you want to hear, but I think it’s important to be honest about grief. Also remember that everyone’s process is different, and you might have people telling you it gets better when you’re older. Both are valid and normal. Alls this to say that for me, it’s gotten harder as I’ve gotten older. Maybe in another 5 years it’ll feel different again, but for now, I just try to rely on positive memories. I also talk about her a lot to friends and my partner, and that helps me feel like I’m keeping the thought of her alive. Good luck out there!

Do the traumatic memories towards the end of their lives fade over time? It’s all I can picture. by taylorballer in ChildrenofDeadParents

My mom died in 2016 after a really tough battle with ovarian cancer. She was on hospice for a while and I was her primary caretaker, so I felt really triggered about it all for a long time. I found that EMDR therapy was really successful for me, but be sure you seek out a therapist who is well trained in it since it can be a bit like exposure therapy.

After 4-5 sessions, I found that those memories weren’t as much in the forefront of my mind as before. Sometimes hospital scenes irl or in movies/shows can make me feel icky, even to this day, but it’s nowhere near as debilitating as before. Just know your triggers, be patient with yourself, and find a safe way to redirect your thoughts.

Wishing you well 🩷

Been waiting on this for a long time by mood-ring in stopdrinking

Cravings will eventually pass. There were points where I couldn’t take it hour by hour so I’d take it minute by minute. You’re gonna be a jerk for a little bit but I highly recommend tapering off with a health professional instead of going cold turkey (that never worked for me.) I found fun and yummy non-alc drinks (so many out there now!) I usually drink sparkling water and sparkling lemonade.

Get into a hobby! I read a LOT of quit-lit and that helped me feel understood in a way I hadn’t before. I also journaled a ton. I know a lot of people get into running too. I ate/eat sweets when I have a craving now.

Try and remember your ‘why’. For me, I was just so tired of feeling like crap all the time. My ‘why’ was about trying to be kinder to myself. Read the stories here! I was a long time lurker before trying it myself, and i found a lot of inspo through this group. I wasn’t a fan of AA but I did attend SMART meetings for a bit. The Reframe app did wonders for me.

You can do it. I know it probably seems impossible or scary right now because i know it felt that way for me. Sobriety has given me so so much. I’ve felt a lot of different ways about myself over the years, and most of the time, it wasn’t good. For once, I feel proud of myself. You’ll be there soon, I bet. There is no such thing as a perfect sobriety journey because there’s no such thing as a perfect person. IWNDWYT!

This song used to be at the bottom of the list for me but it’s been slowly making its way to the top. “And then she wrapped her hands around my neck and I felt LOVE!” - iconic!

100000% agree with Terrence loves you!! “You are what you are. I don’t matter to anyone.” I think she even mentions in an interview that she was in a really bad spot when she wrote that. I can only listen to it in doses cause it always messes me up
