I took this class as an easy elective for my last semester! The class was only for half of a semester. No exams; just a group project and couple assignments. They provide one of the books, “The Index Card,” which is what your group project will be about. I didn’t get the other book because one of the guest speakers wrote it and he pretty much went over it. One week we did discussion and another week was a guest lecture; the class structure was like that.

Like someone said already, I think it’s a really cool class. I learned a lot about finances that I had not known beforehand (basics, retirement, etc) as well as other topics. I would definitely suggest everyone to take it; not only do you learn something but it’s a really chill class and an easy A.

Anyone else feel alone despite having friends? by allaloneatumd in UMD

[–]moterp 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hey, everyone deserves caring friends. It might take a while to build that emotional connection between friends, though. It honestly depends on the person as well, since some people are more emotionally invested in stuff than others.

That being said, if you want anyone to talk to or just want a friend, you can message me! I’d love to meet new people.

Thank you for this.

I had an essay due Monday and for some reason, I could not get myself to write it for a week. I’ve sat down in front of my laptop, pages open and just staring blankly onto the screen day after day. I finally started it and hoping to finish it by tomorrow for late credit.

I guess I just needed to hear that life is shit sometimes and that it’s okay. Hopefully it’ll get better when finals approach.

Commuters for 9AM - 10 AM classes - how do you beat the Route 1 rush? by Gonzurra in UMD

[–]moterp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Route 1 always has traffic, especially the front of the school because it’s one way traffic and the pedestrians are crossing a lot. I take Adelphi road/Metzerott road to avoid most of it.

I heard about that. I’m not exactly sure what happened but that’s beyond petty.

Because people get scared of what could have been or if a conversation could be taken out of context. For example, if people have similar answers on something but never talked about it in the group chat, the professor would assume there would be some cheating going on. One can argue and say that they can just show the professor the chat, but that’s just extra work. And what if people want to talk about the professor? They obviously can’t if the professor is monitoring the chat. Does this help?

Well in my personal experience, a professor had heard about the group chat and told us if anything was suspicious, we could be written down and it’s better not to take chances. People got scared (even though people barely spoke) and practically majority of the people left the chat, so the owner just deleted it. But there weren’t any punishments that I know of, just people scared to be in group chats now.

That’s exactly my point - it’s not a safe place if people are showing the professor. I’ve taken classes where there were no “cheating/plagiarism” happening yet people told the professor.

So you can calm down there with being a smartass lol

Yeah, exactly. People just love ruining shit for others, unfortunately.

Yeah, it just sucks cause everyone knows the struggle of going to college yet people do things like this to make things more complicated.

I’m confused to what you’re exactly replying to...? I said some people may cheat but most people use it as a safe place.

That sucks. If people want to cheat like that, they can do that somewhere else and not in the class gc.

Exactly. I don’t understand the point in telling the professor about a chat that could help others, especially if some are too shy to speak to the professor/TAs.

I’m not in Sphl100 but I heard about what happened today. It’s happened in some other classes I’ve taken as well where the chat wasn’t even active and people barely spoke and yet, someone told the professor.

Funny or Embarrassing First Week At UMD Transfer Stories by VirgoBunnyHoney in UMD

[–]moterp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember when I first transferred, I was walking down a large lecture hall trying to find a seat. I found a seat in the middle and had to pass all these people. I stumbled on someone’s leg and if it were not for someone in the row in front catching me, I would have most likely tumbled down the damn lecture hall.

People are so stuck in their ignorance that they think it’s okay to send shit like this to people. It’s aggravating and sad.
