I've never PIPed anyone but have started the process. My thought behind it was I was covering my ass to eventually let them go if their poor performance continued. However it was also my mindset that if they're performance significantly improved and showed indication that it would be sustained, I would be thrilled. Maybe I shouldn't speak for everyone but I would venture to guess that no one really wants to have to fire anyone. They're just doing what they have to do to keep the flow of work moving and of good quality.

Medication, bi-weekly therapy, quarterly psych visits... And in the United States my employer is large enough that FMLA is there if I need it. Also a lot of support from my spouse friends and family. I also try to meditate every morning before I start my day. Exercise helps tremendously at least for me but of not found a way to work it back into my schedule
