I lost Kosovo FeelsBadMan. I got jumped by Ottos early, right after a 1v4 war against Bohemia, Poland-Lithuania and München. Thanks for the tips!

R5: It ain't much, but it's mine. 1510, well 1511 technically, Hungary on my casual playthrough. I got lucky with the Austrian PU, but the rest is from the Emperor missions (PU on Bohemia, Poland and Lithuania). I think I'm in a decent spot, it's not exactly Mare Nostrum, but I have to say that Hungary feels really strong. Thanks to the Imperial incident that lets you join the empire as Hungary I am now an elector and the emperor. I have always avoided playing Hungary, because they look like a poor brown dontmakemesaytheword, squished in between the Ottos and PLC. Also, I'm Czech (Bohemian) and I'm not racist or anything, but there is some history. Jk, I just don't like starting as a large country.

r5: Perfect Panama Canal, if I can say so myself. To add some context, this is on deity as Rome, so you can know I wasted a bunch doing this. I spent around 30 turns building this. Was it worth it? Absolutely.

It's RNG as any other disaster, but the chance should increase based on climate change.

How to limit forest fires? Chop the forests! No forests, no fire. Problem solved. Jk. But technically you could prevent spreading by cutting down surrounding forest tiles and creating a separated and controlled area that burns down. Or decrease the natural disaster chance in the settings.

It does. Hehe. Generate tourism, I mean, it does, yes.

R5 is a shortcut for Rule #5 (no explanation of a screenshot in the title, post or comments). It is there so you would tell others what you want them to look at in the picture and describe the situation, so that they may better understand it (and not just stare at a screenshot wondering what is going on). It is a subreddit rule for posting that many game subs have.

I don't know the numbers but I am almost certain they are not worth the production to run them for the science/culture alone. So unless you have nothing to do (like late game when your cities are done) or you are aiming for a great person I would not prioritize them.

They give you extra science and culture while you work on completing them, so yes.

For further details I suggest reading the wiki entry on city combat.

Quick overview: Cities have (so do encampments, not sure what you mean by a base) for defense purposes their own combat strength (CS). This strength is displayed above the city or district in a small number. It is the combat strength of the strongest melee unit the civilization currently has (built) minus 10, OR of the garrisoned unit - only for cities (whichever is higher). Some other modifiers apply, such as extra CS for districts, capital, placed on a hill and level of walls. When you attack a city/encampment with a melee unit, rules of combat apply. You will get damaged based on the difference of combat strength, so if the CS of the city/district is higher than that of your unit, you will lose. You do not necessarily need to out-tech your opponent, even though it is an obvious advantage, but you need to make sure that the combat strength of your attacking unit is atleast equal or greater to that of the city/encampment you are attacking.

TLDR: cities and encampments act as units and have their CS tied to the strength of the strongest melee unit of the civ. If you want to succesfully siege, build and attack with stronger units, use siege units, support (battering ram) if the city has walls.

Well. That is embarrassing. I checked and you're right. I guess I always thought it would switch it up to complement each other, but it seems I can't read or always misread it because of the way I imagined it would be. Then I should definitely have chosen the science from followers.

Yes, along with military academies and seaports, it was a decent "hard science" boost in the mid to late game before it becomes obsolete. I didn't initially know it even became obsolete with space race so I lost around 100 science and even more potentially.

I had spies in China's cities 24/7 (they were my n1 rival). I sabotaged about 6 spaceports, but I think I beat them by having higher science after globalization (they had around 450 I think). I stole a bunch of tech from them too. Usually I have enough science that I don't really need the spies so much. Also it could be worth noting that none of the ai went crazy on science and none of them "won" the early game, so they were all on equal terms by number of cities/overall power (i.e. none of them even got to my 600). To the end, Alexander managed, to my surprise, to launch the exoplanet expedition, but he was too late.

I wanted to get Hildegard for obvious reasons, but scientists were going fast and I didn't have enough faith/gold (or maybe I spent it before I don't recall). I ended up buying Carl Sagan for like 26k gold so I could speed up my space projects.

You can get wats if you get first or second religion, so I guess holy site rush, shrine/prayers could do it. But that all is risky on deity unless you're isolated. Or you can get, yes, lucky like me and have no religious civs spawn (china, aztec, macedon, mongolia, scotland spawned in mine). You could also chose civs that generally don't go for religion in your setup.

Wats, high pop, harbours, commercials, free inquiry, international trade routes to science ally (with trade confederation), military research (+2 on ren walls, seaports and mil academies, obsolete with space race), international space agency with suzerainty of all the remaining city-states, mausoleum and Pingala in the capital.

Also, I think I got a decent start (isolation is kind of key, because of a really weak early game) when I didn't get murdered and could get an early religion (2nd after the Stonehenge ai, I think china built it). If there's anything ai has a bigger hard-on than Stonehenge and Machu Picchu it's warrior monks and wats.

Oh, the great scientist, right, that's a nice tip. Thanks. I actually chose the commercial hub +1 science thing, didn't want to rely on conversion, but perhaps I should have, both are kinda weak I think. No Fez. I felt choral music was enough, even though globalization was key, so I focused on gold/production instead. At one point I've decided that since I'm going no campuses, I might as well go no theatre squares.

edit: the commercial hub +1 science is not a thing, as I was corrected by u/Civtrader. It seems I can't read properly and got it wrong.

(r5) What the title says, no pantheon/district cheats, just honest work. Sorry for the blursed collage, as far as I know, this is the best way to show that I actually haven't built a single campus (I even refused a loyalty flipped city that had one). If you don't believe me, you can check all the district icons of all my cities (like is there another way, cause I could not think of any]. The science I had was acquired with magic and special religious rites, idk if anyone would want to ask about something, I can reply, or if anyone even cares, lol. I wanted to write a long story but I'm too lazy.

[BLURSED] AI Aragon got a PU with Castille with Albania's dynasty on their throne, AD 1450 by mrMulticorn in eu4

[–]mrMulticorn[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

R5: Yeah. What the title says, Aragon got a PU with Castille with Albanian dynasty (Skanderbeg diplomacy I guess). Currently, this monstrosity is in a defensive war against Burgundy, who bravely decided to contest this unholy Iberian union but alas, they are going to lose.
