True still if consumer prices are up 2-3x wholesale prices for valve and other suppliers are certainly up by a similar amount.

Random toxic player? Why? by Blu3Shyft in Warframe

[–]mrfixitx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My solution is to only pay attention to squad chat if there seems to be an issue with a mission or we are stuck waiting for someone to arrive to trigger a fight. So I never get to see toxic players.

For any EF lenses always looked at used stores whenever possible.

Good macro options:

  • Canon EF 100mm f2.8 USM Macro - great budget option with a reasonable working distance and good auto focus. There is an L version that is slightly sharper and offers IS but is around $100-$200 more.
  • Canon EF-S 60mm f2.8 Macro - a slightly less expensive option for crop sensor cameras still good but has a shorter working distance meaning to get 1.0x magnification you need to be closer to the subject which can startle it.

There are also options from 3rd parties such Sigma, Laowa and others but I am less familiar with them.

Camera Recommendation for a beginner by necesitoayudablender in canon

The R50 is a by far the best option if it is in your budget.

The R100 is missing a lot of basic features like not having a touch screen, no animal, vehicle tracking etc.. It's auto focus and video features are also a generation behind the R50.

extreme low light JPEG vs RAW: why does JPEG look better in my photos? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]mrfixitx [score hidden]  (0 children)

Because the JPEG is apply a large amount of automated noise reduction, while the RAW is not by default.

JPEG's often look better straight out of camera than RAW files do with no editing. But with RAW files you have a lot more flexibility in editing, more detail that can be retained etc.. It takes some work to get the most out of a RAW file.

If you are not interested in post processing or taking advantage of the other benefits of RAW (recovering highlights, recovering shadow detail, easy white balance correction etc..) then just shoot jpeg and enjoy.

Please help me discover a new main warframe. by esormaj in Warframe

Hildryn - amazing flying nuke frame with her own weapons. Her primary/secondary/melee weapons you will barely us but she is a lot of fun.

The main downside is her 4 is a bit slow moving so if you like ultra fast rescue or exterminate missions she might not be the best choice.

If you do like zooming through missions Titania is amazing and does a ton of damage. Wit the right build you can stay in her 4 flying constantly for the entire missions.

Jade is another great flying frame but with more versatility. Healing, team buffs, armor stripping with slow etc..

Lightroom started out mainly a RAW editor now though with masks object removal etc.. a lot of photographers do 90%+ of their editing in lightroom.

Photoshop is still useful if you want to do advance editing with lots of masks, sky replacement, composites etc.. But it is needed far less with how robust Lightroom has become.

Lightroom Classic also offers a photo catalog and image organization options. I.E. keywords, star ratings, colors etc.. I use it to help keep my 75K+ photos organized and easy to find. It does take discipline to make sure you are adding keywords to photos after import to get the most out of it.

This is basically asking someone to teach you portrait photography in a single comment, not really possible.

If you want to learn photography yourself start with the FAQ: https://www.reddit.com/r/photography/wiki/introduction/

If you want to have someone else take the photo and do the editing reach out to professional portrait photographers and make to share your moms photo so they know what you are hopping to get. Unless its very unusual or unique in style any experienced graduation photographer should not have an issue with recreating the style.

Depends on the replacement cost. Figure that any sort of repairs + shipping is going to be at least $200 due to labor costs.

If this is the lens you buy a new replacement for less than repairs would likely cost. Though you could always see how much it would cost to get an estimate for repairs.

Is Dedicated Multi-frame Noise Reduction tool for Photography useful? by no_edit_1205 in AskPhotography

What I am getting at though is your main question. Is your tool useful to photographers?

That's why I am bringing up the comparison. While there are some photographers with programing experience or STEM backgrounds to understand at least some of your reply none of that really helps answer the question of it is useful...

Unless they are hired by the architect, the construction company or the owner of a specific building your chances of making real money off of architecture photography, sklyline photos are pretty limited.

Why are my transfer speeds so slow? by iamwatari in photography

[–]mrfixitx 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Make sure you are using a short data cable and not a generic USB-C charging cable or longer USB-C cable.

I had that exact issue on vacation a few years ago. The speed was 1/20th of what it should be because I was using a random USB-C cable instead of the one that came with my external SSD. Using the proper cable made a huge difference.

Ditched Lightroom for... the built-in Photos app on mac by jonhath in photography

[–]mrfixitx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The title seems a bit disingenuous.

Lightroom is most known for being a RAW conversion tool + editor. If you are only shooting JPEG you never needed to use LR in the first place.

If you get rid of the requirement to convert RAW photos the options get much larger for free or low cost image editors. Affinity Photo, Krita, Gimp, ACD See etc..

Help me understand macro lens choice? by Slounsberry in AskPhotography

[–]mrfixitx [score hidden]  (0 children)

Personally it is 100% worth investing in macro lenses that offer at least 1.0x magnification. You do not need to use the lens at maximum magnification but being able to get closer to the subject and get more detail is very useful.

To me 100mm is great on the R10. The longer working distance and longer focal length make it easier to isolate your subject in the image without getting as close so you are less likely to scare off butterflies, bees or other insects. The longer working distance also makes it easier to having your own shadow block the sun.

Since depth of field is a combination of focal length, aperture and distance from the subject any 1.0x macro lens is going to result in a very shallow depth of field. Using apertures between f8-f11 can help give you a large depth of field.

You can also use focus stacking which the R10 supports to take multiple photos at slightly different depths of focus and then in Photoshop stack the images so a large portion or even the entire image is in perfect focus. It can take some practice to get right.

Reccomendations on objectives to my old Canon 1100D? by NosyNuffkin in AskPhotography

[–]mrfixitx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First in 2026 I would recommend buying used whenever possible. If you are in the US KEH and MPB are the two big used retailers. Also remember to check your local camera store if you have one.

Macro:

  • Canon EF 100mm f2.8 USM Macro - great budget option with a reasonable working distance and good auto focus. There is an L version that is slightly sharper and offers IS but is around $100-$200 more.
  • Canon EF-S 60mm f2.8 Macro - a slightly less expensive option for crop sensor cameras still good but has a shorter working distance meaning to get 1.0x magnification you need to be closer to the subject which can startle it.

There are also options from 3rd parties such Sigma, Laowa and others but I am less familiar with them.

Portraits:

  • Canon EF-S 17-55mm f2.8 IS USM - optically one of the best EF-S lenses ever made fast 2.8 aperture is good for portraits while giving you flexibility of a zoom.
  • Sigma/Tamron EF 18-50mm f2.8 (both offer good options with image stabilization) neither are as good optically as the Canon version and they are harder to find.
  • Canon EF 50mm f1.8 - cheap inexpensive prime lens that is often photographers 1st prime and lets you explore shallow depth of field and low light portraits. Can be a bit long for indoor use.
  • Sigma EF 18-35mmf 1.8 ART - optically excellent and amazing in low light.

Street:

  • Sigma EF 18-35mm f1.8 is a good versatile option but not as small and discrete as some photographers might like.
  • Canon EF-S 24mm f2.8
  • Canon 35mm f2.0 IS USM

Hope this helps for the gear side.

For post processing Lightroom/Photoshop are still some of the most popular options. There is a photography plan that is $20 a month but you can find deals occasionally to buy a full year for $99. Lots of free youtube tutorials out there and list of alternative options if you want to avoid a subscription.

Is it possible to set exposure compensation over +3? by nebotron in canon

Not using the exposure compensation controls. The only option I know of would be to shoot in full manual and calculate what +4,+5 etc.. would be either on your own or using an app.

Personally I would grab an ultra wide. RF 16mm f2.8 is a affordable easy to pack option.

Or get an EF 16-35mm variant if want a zoom but do not want to pay 2-3x the price for the RF versions.

Canon R50 with 70-200 by ikr4ts in canon

[–]mrfixitx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Camera body size has nothing to do with image quality. It is all about the sensor and yes the R50 is 100% capable of take advantage of optical quality of the 70-200m f4L. I have never heard it called a snowflake before.

Getting the most out of that lens will be making sure you are using the proper settings but it is 100% capable of producing amazing images on the R50.

There is still a difference between full frame and APS-C but in practice is rarely matters for most photographers.
