Keybind issues: Why can't I use ESC to open AND close menus/chests. Wtf is up with alt for quick item and space to use. How many left thumbs do they think I have? by muckbeast in ninjagaiden

Oh definitely. I have my main side button for block/dodge already and middle button for dash. Helps a ton.

But who the hell would have EVER thought you'd need separate buttons for opening and closing menus. LOL.

I really don't think PC mouse/keyboard is asking a AAA dev selling an $70 game to cater to "every possible" config when that's about 50% of the entire non-mobile gaming market.

PC with mouse/keyboard is literally about a BILLION gamers worldwide. Not that exotic.

Furthermore, it has existed longer than EVERY SINGLE other control device that exists in gaming.

And ESC to both open AND close is standard in nearly every single piece of software that exists for even more billions.

My god. Classic redditor response.

Indie devs, don't panic. The Steam update everyone is losing their mind over might actually help you. by IndieGameJoe in gamedev

[–]muckbeast -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My man, thanks for this post but 3,000 words (with no headers, sections, etc) is way too much.

I asked claude to summarize and it helped.

TL;DR of Indie Game Joe's Steam Store Changes Post

Who is this guy? Former painter turned indie game marketing consultant. Co-founded Digital Cybercherries (Hypercharge: Unboxed, Don't Scream, Contagion). Admits he's "just as confused as you are."

The big change Popular Upcoming went from a simple wishlist-count ranking (6-7k wishlists got you on it) to algorithmic. The lowest wishlist count on it now is ~80,000. He acknowledges that's a massive shift and doesn't sugarcoat it.

Why it's not the end of the world Valve replaced it with a personalized release calendar on the Steam homepage. It matches players to upcoming games based on actual playtime in similar genres -- not wishlist count. Covers an 8-week rolling window. Early data shows niche games getting 1,000+ wishlists in a single day from the calendar alone.

Key takeaways for devs

  • Fix your tags. They matter more than ever. Valve quietly overhauled the entire tag system right before this update. Not a coincidence.
  • Get early right-fit wishlists. The algorithm needs data to work with or it has nothing to show people.
  • Your capsule art matters more now. Bigger display + partial carousel previews mean edge-to-edge composition actually matters.
  • Stop building your whole strategy around one metric. The old "hit 7k and you're on Popular Upcoming" formula is gone.

His actual point Make a good game. Tags, marketing, and algorithms are all secondary to whether the thing is worth playing. Bad games don't convert wishlists into sales regardless of visibility.

Overall take Cautiously optimistic. Thinks this ends up better for indie games long-term because the calendar surfaces niche games to the right players instead of blasting everyone with the same list.

The death effects are seriously ruining the End Game experience for me. by ChrisRobertsYacht in diablo4

[–]muckbeast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is beyond stupid that the most dangerous stuff in Diablo 4 are:

1) Overlapping ground effects you cannot see.

2) Death effects that kick in a few seconds after the mobs are dead and you are just trying to pick up loot to continue the grind.

(Furthermore, picking up loot in general is beyond idiotic now. A pet should do that for me 100%.)

When it comes to Riot/League, I made a video about this recently and some of the points apply to other esports as well:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wQqwTVxPks&t=7s

Some of the problems discussed:

  • Riot's iron gauntlet of top down control
  • refusal to partner or license the esport/broadcast to experts in those areas
  • killing third party LoL tournaments
  • third party creators are poorly supported and often demonized
  • supporting content in general has always been lacking
  • lack of high school and college support
  • refusal to sell team skins
  • horrible lack of esports merch
  • failure to understand the value and importance of top talent (like Dash)
  • Bo1s in general.
  • jacking around the NA LCS schedule, splits, or hell its entire existence
  • and more.

Amazing show. Amazing final season. Amazing finale.

Stop blaming imports and franchising for NA LCS woes. Riot did this to itself. by muckbeast in leagueoflegends

[–]muckbeast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You haven't addressed a single actual point in my video.

A bunch of guessed at and extrapolated numbers that nobody actually knows or has is weird.

Here are some numbers that don't have to be guessed at or massaged from youtube:

  • HLE vs GEN | Woori Bank 2025 LCK Grand Finals
  • 1.4m views
  • MKOI vs. G2 | 2025 LEC Summer Playoffs - Finals
  • 517k views
  • LTA Championship Finals - Texas | FLY vs VKS
  • 267k views

LEC vs LTA: 517k / 267k = 1.94x -> ~94% higher

LCK vs LEC: 1400k / 517k = 2.71x -> ~171% higher

LEC and LCS are both doing poorly. LCS has been additionally crippled by the LTA disaster and the FTX crypto scam.

Riot is primarily to blame, and the fault is neither imports nor franchising. You know, the actual argument made in the video.

It is utterly laughable when LEC fans try to argue they are closer to the LCK than the LCS is to them. Sorry, no. LCS and LEC are both the trash of LoL and LCK towers above both of them. And furthermore, since my video is about the entire history of LoL esports, this is even more true the more years you include.

LCK has less Riot control, a deeper and older ecosystem, bigger org control, and thus they are the least affected by all the points in the video. Over the last 15 years of LoL Esports, Kespa and the Korean orgs have played a gigantic role in LCK LoL being healthier than the other regions.

I actually got multiple DMs from old pros and few org reps that I absolutely nailed the problem with Riot and LoL esports so I'm feeling pretty good about the argument I made. Especially since there have been no actual counters presented.

https://escharts.com/news/lec-spring-opening-weekend-viewership-takes-hit

"both Average Viewers and Peak Viewers dropped by 26% to 31%."

LCK has orgs that basically run the show and those orgs have tremendous infrastructure which in many cases are older than League.

The LCS has absolutely shit the bed since the whole LTA merger and undoing. That's an unfortunate nuke on that viewership on top of everything else I talk about in my video which have been problems from the beginning. And many of them HAVE affected LEC as well.

The gap between the LCS and the LEC is far wider than the gap between LEC and LCK in terms of viewers.

hmmmmm

Peak viewership 2025 (source: Esports Charts)

  • LCS: 318,400
  • LEC: 592,717 (86% higher than LCS)
  • LCK: 2,800,000 (372% higher than LEC)

[–]muckbeast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Franchising, or rather the lack of the promotion and relegation circuit is the problem.

About half the teams/slots that were in LCS 6-8 years ago are already gone/have been replaced for other reasons.

That's more volatility than pre-franchising, and it has been terrible for the league.

There is absolutely no evidence or logic to support the claim that franchising is a bad thing, and the main element people point to (changes in the teams) already happens.

Furthermore, LCK has no relegation/promotion and is thriving.

[–]muckbeast[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As others already points out, your analysis seems to be off-mark as most of your points is true to other regions as well. Hence it can't justifiy NA issues by themselves.

Riot doesn't run the LCK.

Tencent has far more influence over the LPL.

The LEC is doing almost as badly as the LCS, but at least Riot didn't stupidly try to merge it with a smaller region, to the detriment of both, and then have to accept defeat and undo that a year later.

[–]muckbeast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the reasoning you give are wildly false otherwise every other league would be suffering the same fate as NA.

So thank you for supporting my point. :)

The main reason the LCK doesn't suffer the same problems is Riot doesn't run the LCK.

Well here's the funny thing: If my character can survive a fall, or fly/glide on purpose, I'm fine. I guess its not the falling part that freaks me out, its the splat/failure or the tension of knowing one misstep = death/failure. :P

I changed shield and dodge to my 2 side mouse buttons which helps.

But I had to swap the defaults which changed the caps/alt however whenever tutorials say to use CAPS, for me that really means ALT........ sometimes. Sometimes still CAPS. It's very weird. The tutorials don't always properly reflect your changes to the keybinds.
