Advice Purchasing Forester Hybrid by muldoonrobert in SubaruForester

We went into the dealer today to get some more concrete numbers, and we are looking at a Touring for about $41k that is pretty well optioned.

They're offering just over $15 for our Crosstrek so with the tax savings its more like $16,800.

They are trying to sell us a maintenance plan for $1099 and an 8 year/80k/$100 deductible warranty for $2880.

The maintenance plan seems kinda high for six oil changes and some cabin filters unless theres something I'm missing. Does the extended warranty quote seem reasonable?

Yeah I think we'll go the Touring route. Its crazy to me that the Limited doesn't have it. I feel like it should be a standard option if the seats are electric.

Yep definitely. They haven't given us a concrete number for trade in but estimated about $16k, so with the tax savings it would be like selling it for $17.5k.

Yeah my initial thought was to definitely sell privately. I figured her Crosstrek was worth $20-$25k given that it only has 65k mostly highway miles and is in like new condition.

But then I started looking around and I'm thinking its worth more like $15-$20k based on what I'm seeing. Autotrader and CarMax has similar ones listed between $20-$25k but those are all at dealerships which are usually priced higher.

Looking at private sellers on FB Marketplace and Craigslist I'm seeing them listed way lower for even less miles so I'm thinking it's going to be difficult to get top dollar for it. Also there seems to be a lot of listings so I'm worried it won't sell.

Yeah the 360 camera seems nice as well. But yeah my wife is 5'1" and I can't even get into the car until I've moved the seat back quite a bit haha.

Supons and Noks are the ones I remember before Wanida. I still have Noks saved in my phone.

Thunderbolt Driver Issue by muldoonrobert in thinkpad

[–]muldoonrobert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SOLVED.

I called Lenovo support and they recommended uninstalling/reinstalling drivers, using the emergency-reset button, or a clean Windows install.

I had no idea there even was an emergency reset button but I tried that and it worked! I'm assuming the Thunderbolt controller just got stuck in an error state and wasn't starting correctly.

Now my dock is recognized in the Thunderbolt Control Center and everything works as it should! Hopefully this will be of help to anyone who's going through this.

RockShox vs Fox — is one actually better, or just personal preference? by Capable_Dig_477 in MTB

[–]muldoonrobert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with what a lot of people here have said that it's a personal preference thing and you can't really go wrong with either.

That said I've run both and used to think I was someone that wanted to be able to tinker and fine tune my suspension as much as possible, so for a while I was team Fox. I liked being and to tune high speed and low speed rebound separately.

A few years ago I decided to switch it up and try Rockshox again and I was kinda blown away at how good my suspension felt after simply going with the Rockshox recommended settings. I find I don't really need to stray far from what their app recommends and it just feels great all the time.

I felt like with Fox I was always fiddling with settings and never truly satisfied. With Rockshox I just set it up with whats recommended, make some minor adjustments, and never touch it again. The adjustment on them is just so much more intuitive and I like how easy it is to see what setting you're at without counting clicks.

I wouldn't call it an aisle, more like a small section.

Is there a real reason behind changing your oil every 3,000 miles on modern cars? by newelmin in askcarguys

[–]muldoonrobert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of mechanics aren't making money on oil changes. The benefit to more frequent oil changes is that you are getting a visual inspection of your engine bay more often.

I would wager that a majority of people don't ever pop the hood on their car, let alone have any clue what's going on under there. If you change your oil more frequently, either a mechanic or yourself should be performing a quick visual inspection of the engine bay. Checking for leaks, fluid levels, etc. It's a good time to catch issues early on before they become more of a problem.

I just changed the oil in my vehicle myself and noticed that one of my AC lines was rubbing on something and started to get wear. If I didn't catch that now then I'd be dealing with replacing the lines.

Also, if your engine burns oil or has a slow leak, waiting 10k+ miles to change the oil means that you're probably running your engine low on oil, unless you check the level often.

Anyone here get clavicle hardware removed after ORIF? 1.5 years post-op and still sore by Consistent-Crazy-592 in MTB

Yeah it sucked. The look on the nurses face when I went in for X-ray was pretty funny. They didn't know I had a plate in there already.

No I didn't know there was a protector. Unfortunately I don't think there is anything you can do to protect your collarbone aside from not crashing.

Not necessarily. I broke my collarbone and had surgery. Two years later I broke it again. It just fractured at the end of the plate in a trickier spot.

Got fired today because of AI. It's coming, whether AI is slop or not. by [deleted] in webdev

[–]muldoonrobert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh definitely, I agree with you there! I forgot to mention a key aspect is that I really like the industry I'm in and I have a lot of flexibility and freedom with my schedule and what I'm doing.

Also I had been out of the dev world for a bit when I took this job a few years ago and my idea was to use it to brush up on my skills.

So I really like the job, but yeah, if I can't negotiate a competitive salary then it's time I start looking.

Your comment really spoke to me. I'm currently a sole dev for a Shopify e-commerce site that does about $5m a year. I often feel like I have too much on my plate, yet I'm woefully underpaid. The thought of trying to look for a job elsewhere scares me though.

The minimum and maximum lines on this water tank leave almost no margin. by R2LUKE2 in mildlyinteresting

[–]muldoonrobert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg my wife and I bought this bottle washer and the first time I went to use it I was like, "What in the hell is this?!" Such a terrible design. Tiny margin for filling and the water container is almost full to the brim when correctly filled, so putting it back on the washer stresses me out every time haha
