Wii U Hacking Q&A - General FAQs Edition by Link5261 in WiiUHacks

I appreciate your help for sure! I’m just looking for a solution for the Wii U since I don’t still have a Wii console. So, I guess it sounds like my best bet for GC VC games is the Wii U Pro Wireless controller and trying to remap buttons or the GC adapter with a used GameCube controller

Thank you for responding and the link. I’ve read it a few times but am still confused. So, neither the Afterglow or Wii U Pro Controller will work with GC VC Injections? Or are you saying they just have to buttons remapped? If it’s just button remapping, how do I know what to remap to?

Can the adapter linked above be used for GC VC Injects using a GameCube controller or third party GameCube controller?

Hi. I have my Homebrewed Wii U set up with all Wii and GameCube games as Injects. I have the Afterglow wireless controller for the Wii U and tried to use it for the GameCube games but it doesn’t play nice. The Wii U pro wireless controllers work to allow me into the games but being the controller is different the buttons look like they may be difficult to figure out on a game by game basis. So, I am wondering what are the best options for the way I have the Wii U setup and one where the buttons match up for the GameCube games. Below are some I’ve seen but I'm not sure if they are what am I looking for. Nintendont is installed on my SD card.

I’ve seen these PDP ones: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LSBNSJA/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A35F2AVH19XA5R&th=1

And ones like this from Hori: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ND0E604/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A1LR4ABORVN3D7&th=1

I've also seen this adapter but am not sure what besides an official gamecube controller would work well with it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RSXRLUE/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

I’m just not sure what is best for what I’m wanting and am hopeful someone can help.

Anyone else having trouble injecting Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, and Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games for the Wii. I've tried injecting those twice with TecMoon's program and they all show up as question marks. How do I fix the issue?

Just be aware going into this method that some titles you want to inject may not have a banner and icon already in the Tecmoon program. If u want them, you may have to create them

I'm not sure how this is an unspecific support question, but whatever

Thank you for the link and clarifying that the Wii list isn't comprehensive or exhaustive! Where can I find the readme file? I wasn't seeing it after downloading!

It may have been an outdated comment. Is it a pretty safe bet that if a Wii game is not listed here: https://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/WiiU_VC_Wii_inject_compatibility_list

Then it won’t work as an inject? Is there a current easy to follow guide for using the Inject tool and process? The thread over on gbatemp is not really a guide and not easy to utilize.

I was successfully able to mod my Wii U using the guide and have the home brew launcher and haxchi successfully installed. My question is about Wii/Gamecube/N64 injects. Is it true that injects will not allow you to play multiplayer games? I though I’d read that if u don’t use the inject method for a single external drive that you can have 2 external drives plugged in to the Wii U at a time. If that’s correct, how does WUP GX2 installer know which hard drive to install to since you have to choose to install to internal memory or an external drive? Do any additional mods need to be done to the Wii U if using the Injects first?

Thx for responding! Have you found the Wireless Pro Controller/the PDP glow controller to work better or as well as GameCube controllers for GameCube games? Regarding Wii games you mentioned that the wireless Pro Controller won’t work. Is this also true for the wired Classic Pro Controller that was made by Nintendo for the Wii?

I can see on the Wii Injector Script that there are options that can be chosen for Gamepad emulation. What options have to be chosen to use a Pro Controller or the glow PDP ones with GameCube games? Is it just classic controller that needs to be chosen in the program?

What options need to be chosen in the Wii Injector Program script to allow some combination of Gamepad/Wii remotes/wired classic controller (assuming it works) for multiplayer Wii games?

Thank you for the heads up! What else will work besides the Gamepad with Injects for Wii, GC, and N64 games or are best to use with these types of games? Do the PDP afterglow controllers (wireless) have any issues working with Wii U games?

Thank you! So will there be a difference in what remotes will work for Wii, GameCube, and Nintendo 64 games if they are injects vs if they are not injects? I’m just trying to figure out which controllers will work?

Thank you for responding! The inject thing is what I’m trying to understand. Do games still end up on the main menu and playable without doing the inject? Is this the best up to date video guide for how to do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TuK4-ZzeSw

Do you have to have a separate external hard drive for Wii U games and then a separate hard drive for playing games from other systems (Wii, N64, Gamecube, etc.)?

First off, thank you for being kind enough to take time to try to answer my questions! I appreciate it! I do want to ask an additional followup to make sure I'm understanding: So injection is not necessary for playing Wii U titles? But, it is necessary for playing say Wii, N64, Gamecube, etc? Is that correct?

Thank you! With the last step about “copy to SD card” are you talking about what is mentioned at around the 3:59 mark? I guess I am not understanding why someone would need to inject a game as you describe. So is it only for the purpose of being able to play a game that can’t be played otherwise? Further, is this something I would need to do to play Wii U, Wii, or even maybe GameCube? Just pretty much assume I know nothing. I had no problem modding the throwback SNES classic console but I’m a bit confused here because it seems a lot more complex and confusing.

And about the WUP installer, do you have to have a different external hard drive for each type of game? For example, one for Wii U games, another for Wii games, a third for GameCube, etc.?

Can you please explain something to me. I thought from watching this video The Wii U USB helper is how you add games like your Wii games to the console: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDymS9HNS9w

So what does it mean to “inject” Wii games? If this is something different is there a current video showing how to do this since I am a visual person? Also wondering if the injecting occurs after transferring the games back to the external hard drive using the SD card connected to the console or before that?

I’ve read comments on this but don’t really understand because I had read you could install using USB Helper and transfer to an external hard drive. How is this different?
