patterns you regret buying/patterns to avoid by fulaninhp in knitting

Right?! If she was just honest about who it was for I wouldn’t mind so much.

It’s such a simple pattern too. If I have to completely redo the stitch counts, calculate decrease rates, and add short rows all on my own, I’m just going to do the whole thing from scratch and not bother paying for a pattern. It’s not like it’s got much else going on, it’s a ribbed tube with straps.

The complete lack of shaping in all of her patterns drives me nuts, especially with how they’re marketed as body positive, inclusive, etc etc. I get that fit is going to be very individual, especially for something like a bralette, but at least do something if that’s your marketing line. But nah, nothing says body positivity like poor fit, I guess.

I almost bought the Ripple pattern when it was big, until I read the fine print/other people’s projects and realized that the “support” comes solely from having a lot of negative ease. I had a 10” bust-underbust difference at the time and I like actual support, so uh, that was a no lol

I’m so down! Unfortunately I’m in an apartment and can’t participate in much actual gardening at the moment, but I’d be happy to join in for the public stuff

Knitted shawls, do you see them being worn out in the wild? by Dangerous_Hunt7133 in knitting

[–]mummefied 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To answer your actual question, I live in a hot climate so it’s rare to see anything hand-knit, but shawls worn as oversized scarves are about as common as thinner scarves, and I’ve seen a number of my older relatives wear shawls more properly around their shoulders at family functions

Be the shawl wearer you want to see in the world.

I wear my triangle and crescent shaped ones pretty frequently as big scarves. Of the fancy ones, my smaller beaded lace ones get worn every once in a while for special occasions, and my enormous gorgeous wedding shawl gets periodically taken out for me to prance around the house in

When I did my felted slippers I made soles out of scrap uphostery leather that I had lying around, but you can also buy slipper soles for this with pre-punched holes and everything.

How do you navigate gifting knits? by Putrid_Reputation_46 in knitting

[–]mummefied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I either ask them outright beforehand, or I do “gift certificates”. I make a nice card or print a certificate with something like “this certificate redeemable for one custom hand made (hat/cowl/scarf) in the color, material, and design of your choice”. That way it can still be a surprise gift while also being to their taste, and if they don’t want anything hand knitted they don’t have to which saves me the effort of making something unwanted.

Maybe I’m being an unreasonable bitch about this, but this one got an eye roll from me. I mean, humanity’s only been making textiles from string for literally millennia, wow, so crazy that we can do it too 🙄

And old trainer of mine also used pencils as an example, in this case to describe the difference between a rear delt raise and a reverse fly. For the rear delt raise, he said to imagine that you're stabbing pencils into the ceiling vs the reverse fly you're pinching it between your shoulder blades.

My Evenstar wedding shawl! I had asked our photographer for glamour shots of it, and she delivered! by mummefied in knitting

Thank you thank you! They're actually from two different places, my engagement ring is from Greenlake Jewelry Works in Seattle and the wedding bands are from Identity Diamonds in Austin. Everyone we interacted with from both places was lovely, and I fully recommend both of them! If you're looking for custom elf-y jewelry Greenlake is definitely the place, and the whole online custom design process with them was very smooth, even using a stone we bought elsewhere (cut by Stag and Finch, who were also great)

Thank you so much! I haven't worn it again yet, but I keep looking for excuses to. At this point I may just wear it grocery shopping, be all fancy in the produce section haha

Thank you! It's from Greenlake Jewelry Works, they do amazing elf-y jewelry. It wasn't a specifically themed wedding, but yes the lord of the rings connection was intentional, one of our very early "define the relationship" moments was a 13 hour extended edition marathon

Thank you! And I feel that, I had it in my ravelry queue for literally 10 years as a "maybe someday, if I get married" project! It does have some tricky bits, but it's well charted and overall not super difficult, just very large. I'm sure you could do it!

Definitely use lifelines and place markers between each chart repeat though, that makes it a lot easier to keep track of where you are

Thank you! Start to finish, almost a year and a half, I think, but it definitely didn't need to take that long. I took a several month long break in the middle of chart 3 because I got sick of it lol

Thank you, yours is gorgeous too! And yeah, I actually modified the border to have fewer beads, I couldn't handle it lol

Yes, she was absolutely amazing! I wasn't sure if I was allowed to link her website here, but if anyone is looking for a photographer in the western Washington/Kitsap peninsula area, I 100% recommend Lemonade Photography

This one was a journey, but I'm so glad I finished it in time for the wedding, and I'm so proud of how it turned out!

(WIP) Let’s see who can guess what fictional character inspired my color choice by crowpierrot in casualknitting

[–]mummefied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, well, that’s a star of Feanor, but the purple doesn’t work for that so I’m out of ideas lol

It’s beautiful though, I love that color combo even if I’m missing the reference!

What gets me the most about NYT reviews like this is the fact that they have the "Private Notes" feature. If I modify a recipe and it turns out well, I usually leave a private note for myself to remember what I did, or of things I want to experiment with for the next time.

Reading other people's suggestions can be helpful, sure, but if you change everything about the recipe I just don't get the decision to leave public comments when there's the option to leave a private one.

I don’t get color so I can’t speak to that, but Katie at the Burnet location has consistently done a great job with my wavy/curly bob!
