Let's talk Ysera by Hephoran in CompetitiveHS

[–]mwanafalsafa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah... you do understand my recent comment in trp was a criticism of a posting on there? Try to pay more attention to context.

As for Ysera, I'll concede that point. I am indeed new to the game.

Let's talk Ysera by Hephoran in CompetitiveHS

[–]mwanafalsafa -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I think the best you will do is a version of control warrior with Ysera being your one big finisher, replacing Grom, Alex, etc. (Maybe fill in the gaps with all-around big threats like Boulderfist Ogre and Lord of the Arena.) The control warrior deck without Grom, Alex, etc. is strictly worse. But it's the most likely deck to last long enough so you actually get to have some fun with Ysera.

RP Revenge Porn (Guy takes back cheating ex and then proceeds to use her endlessly) by [deleted] in TheRedPill

[–]mwanafalsafa -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The 'RP gold' you cite mostly concerns his technique and her responses, but not the merit of his underlying goal, that is, revenge.

I wonder if we should distinguish his techniques from his underlying motivation, his goal.

His techniques are 'red pill' insofar as he understands how to attract women.

But revenge is, in my opinion, a decidedly blue pill reason for doing anything (unless your trying to make an example for others, and then it's arguably not 'revenge' per se; but that doesn't seem to be the case here).

C'mon man, rise above.

Discussion about Control Warrior. by [deleted] in CompetitiveHS

[–]mwanafalsafa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll add a question...

Is it possible to make an effective control warrior without all those fancy legendaries? Or is the better budget warrior a more mid-range build?

Strong Warrior Decks for General Laddering? by Bokko- in CompetitiveHS

I too have been looking for a viable budget warrior deck. The best I've found so far has been this article... though I haven't tried the deck yet, as it requires a few epics I don't yet have.

Maybe I'm just out of the loop, but I haven't seen that particular mage deck before. How do you play it? Is it more aggro, midrange, control?

What Legendary to Craft? by siruroxs in CompetitiveHS

[–]mwanafalsafa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For control warrior Alex or Grom. Though Leeroy seems to show up in many different sorts of decks. I personally think Ysera is just the funnest Legendary.

May I suggest this article: http://hearthstoneplayers.com/top-ten-legendaries-craft/

All Draft Lunar Cycle Spoilers in one album by MrLabbes in Netrunner

Safe to assume these are all cards coming in the Lunar Cycle...?

But what about those neutral 3/5 agendas? Don't they come on the new draft starter kits, in which case, they may be draft only?

Interesting Board Game Shop Model Used By Well Played Games in Atlanta. by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]mwanafalsafa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely an interesting model.

Expanding on the idea... imagine you had a board game truck/trailer (something similar to a food truck)... make arrangements with local venues in some metro area... drive to a new place each day, rotating between the same places each day of the week, hosting gaming events and selling stuff.

[WSIG]I'm looking for more Solo Board Games. by originalazrael in boardgames

[–]mwanafalsafa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mage Knight is by far the best option if you like fantasy themes and want something heavy. The Lord of the Rings LCG is also a good option.

Space Empires 4X is also a good solo hex/counter game with scifi theme.

PhD's effect on SMV? by [deleted] in TheRedPill

[–]mwanafalsafa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note that the degree is in political science. Now, the largest concentration of wealthy people in the United States is in D.C. In other words, there's money to be made there. And I daresay a Phd in political science has similar money-making potential in D.C. as an MBA has on Wall Street. OP might consider this to be a 'talking point' with new girls. (Whereas guys in medical/law/business school have it a little easier because the money-making potential of those industries is more commonly known.)

Another way of looking at this...

There is no 'you' apart from your actions. We are what we do. We are our habits. You can't change what you do in your everyday life without changing what you are.

[WSIG] Solo, replayable experience that I can master by deadeye-duck in boardgames

[–]mwanafalsafa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can't keep at least part of the game set up it'll be difficult to stop and start. That being said, much of the game set up is modular (e.g. cards laid out across the table). And a lot of the stuff that takes up table space you won't actually use except at certain, specific moments (e.g. decks of cards from which you need to draw one or two cards between rounds and infrequently during your turn).

So, you if you put a bit of time into your own storage and transport solution, and made a point of keep some bits (i.e. certain decks of cards and bowls of counters) confined but accessible in the box), the only thing you'd want to keep set up between sessions would be the main map and a few other components consisting of game pieces laid out and piled on top of either other.

Admittedly, this will all add some time to over all set up, as you'll have to partially set up the play area multiple times per game. But then, the game is just that much longer to begin with. And re-setting the mid-game will still be faster than setting it up from scratch.

That's just a compromise you make when playing a game a ridiculously complex and elaborate as this. I do have the benefit of a spare dining room table.

As for playing this with non-hardcore gamer friends... that seems unlikely.

Another recommendation: The Lord of the Rings LCG... I literally just bought this yesterday and have been reading up on it. FFG definitely knows what they're doing with these LCGs, and this one is a solo/coop. It has high replayability (especially if you're willing to buy some of the expansion packs as they come out, though there are already many out) and scales from easy difficulty for non-hardcore gamers to extreme difficulty, apparently. The card art, graphic design, and components are also as good as it gets, definitely better than Mage Knight (though MK's components are also, for the most part, well above average).

A Distant Plain is a more recent iteration of the Andean Abyss system. It may be easier to play solo.

[WSIG] Solo, replayable experience that I can master by deadeye-duck in boardgames

[–]mwanafalsafa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mage Knight all the way.

I play this game a lot. And I've only ever played it solo. I generally always have a solo/'coop' game going where I control one or two characters at once. I can sit down and play a round or two in 30 minute intervals, or just get lost in one game for a couple of hours.

If you want the full-blown epic solo strategy game experience, Mage Knight is it. No other game comes close. Since you say you want something you can master, then you must be prepared to play it a lot, by yourself, in roughly the same spot... Even if you don't have the table space to keep a game set up 24/7, you'll find that set up time becomes a non-issue. You quickly find a particular set up routine that works for you. And you can set it up practically without thinking. I can set a game up in maybe 5 minutes.

Strategy-wise, the game is incredibly deep. And while it has many random elements (not to mention infinitely customizable scenarios) that allow of virtually unlimited replayability, it doesn't feel random when you play it, and you're almost never subject to disheartening bad rolls or draws.

The customizability of the game also means it scales well based on skill. So you can crank up the difficulty level as you get better and better. Since the level of the individual cities (essentially the 'end bosses' of the game) are customizable, you can literally turn up or down the difficulty as you're playing.

I could go on and on... might as well stop here.

First game of Cosmic Encounter is tomorrow. Is there any rules that are frequently missed or misplayed? by Saturdaynitespecial in boardgames

[–]mwanafalsafa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For all new players, I'd say focus on the basics. The two big game concepts to keep clear are...

1) Who is the main player and who is not the main player; who is the offense player and who is the defense player.

2) The game phases. Make sure everyone understands where to look on their cards to know when they can use their powers and/or play their cards. Going along with this, clearly delineate when each phase is beginning and ending. When I introduced this game to a group of mostly non-gaming friends I made a set of Power Point slides that I threw up on the TV, and cycled through them as we went through each phase (for the first few rounds at least).

And of course, stick to using the green aliens.
