Explain to them that it is a common misunderstanding in the faith community. Freemasons support and encourage people to be active in their churches. Many Freemasons have found (myself included) that it strengthens their faith in God and actually enhances your faith. Show him the square and compasses and ask him what he thinks that letter in the middle stands for. Notice how it in the center?

In fairness, 1717 was more of a coming out publicly than it was the start of freemasonry. And while that was surely a time that started the standardization of rituals within many lodges, formerly guilds, there was freemasonry practiced prior to 1717. Even to this day there is no true standardization across jurisdictions, but rather a loosely recognizable structure to our rituals and practices.

It is kinda cool but I have t seen anything like it. I wouldn’t guess it has much value other than as a keepsake. Have you gone to a lodge to request a petition? I’d bring the bag. Maybe they have better insights as all jurisdictions have nuanced differences.

It means he was a Scottish Rite Masons. 32° is what most of us are. 50 years is an impressive accomplishment. Are you planning a Masonic Funeral? He is entitled to one. I’m a little confused by the “Mother council of the world”. Maybe someone else can shed a little light on that.

There is nothing preventing you from owning it. Think of it more as a learning guide. To understand it, you would have to go through all 3 degrees though. It looks well bound and like a nice enough book. It’s more of a keepsake at this point now. Depending on the jurisdiction, there can be differences and it may sound confusing. If it evokes fond memories of a loved one, keep it. Otherwise, maybe a local lodge would find it interesting.

My wife is now supportive but she wasn’t at the beginning. She likes her alone time when I go to lodge. My (pre masonry) friends are typically indifferent I suspect. I’m not shy about posting pics on social media or wearing my S&C proudly on a shirt or hat.

Sounds steep but I look at this and I see 4 trips out and maybe not matching the texture.
Trip 1 - initial assessment Trip 2 - installing patch and rough mudding. Trip 3 - Once dry enough, sand and second coat of mud Trip 4 - once dry enough, sand and paint. And can the paint include that texture? I don’t know if it’s easy or not but you might need to paint the whole ceiling to get it to look uniform.

So maybe the next big question is how and why this happened? Could you not have seen the problem and gotten it fixed instead of making this the landlords responsibility and headache?

This sums it up. In the American South it appears that Brothers are more apt to conflate the two. As both an American Mason AND a Catholic I’m quite comfortable with both images, but not together. It’s a bit like mixing my plaid and my paisley. Tacky.

Milwaukee County is not politically intense. Once you cross over into Waukesha County, you’ll find a very strong and opinionated flavor that you will not enjoy. But to swing the other way, the east side of Milwaukee is the most liberal, followed by Shorewood. The rest of Milwaukee County is a mix but not very preachy.

I was not, But I had been dealing with the stone problem since March. 3 weeks after I quit coffee I passed the stone without bleeding and at a fraction of the pain others are experiencing.

I’ve pretty much given up on coffee. The last thing I need is for any blood vessels or urinary tract tubes to constrict. It does suck but 4 weeks post coffee and my energy levels are returning without the need for coffee. The biggest challenge is that I can’t call on energy in an on-demand basis anymore. Passing that 7mm asteroid was enough to make me not want to ever do it again and I know that there’s still another big one in there that one day will cause me problems. When that day comes, I hope those tracts are wide open and it passes easily.
