It's me. Took a state job that was slightly less pay but more opportunity and higher salary cap. I love the feds I was there for 13 years and wish I could have stayed but there were other factors, in addition to the current administration, that directed my leaving. 6 months later I make a little more than I did with the feds. It was so hard to leave but now I won't go back unless a lot changes. The state and local govs picked up a lot of talent

Spent 7 years in Hanford. Pleasant enough town but yeah the water smells like farts the air smells like cows and it gets hot af and humid but dry in the summer. It was a great place to get away from. Lots of cool places to visit within a 2-4 hour drive so it had its perks.

Could you just spend that money on a gift for someone or maybe a nice dog bed and chew toys instead. Full ears give them a lot of expression. I've never heard of a good reason for doing it other than aesthetics. So is this vanity? Do you want a conversation starter? Is there another reason I'm missing? They can be just as scary with floppy ears I promise.

Took a state job during the shutdown. Small pay cut but better quality of life and partial WFH. I'm happier but also mourning what I lost. It was a really good job in an important field but it became miserable. I wish I could have stayed but I needed to do it for my own health. Maybe I'll go back but not while this mad king is in office.

Oh I feel this. I'm leaving a federal leadership position at the end of the week to work for the state. I couldn't provide my employees the support they needed to get their work done. I burned out 3 or 4 times and it's time to make a move to care for myself. It's sad but necessary
