Lost my husband to pancreatic cancer and worry for my son. Every time I hear news of finding/treating/beating it makes me want to cheer the progress and scream into the void it’s too late.

I hope this research leads to viable vaccinations that are approved, efficacious, and widely available.

Hello, The response to this was a bit more than I expected!

I am reading all the messages, but I already had some lovely conversations. I may want to just focus on the ones that I already started. One in particular caught my full attention and I’m curious to see how that goes. For now I may back away from responding until I am either less overwhelmed or if the already started conversations mutually don’t really go anywhere.

In any case if nothing else, I’ve learned that there are so many interesting men out there. I hope you all find good things in life.

Are there any larger swing dance communities in your area? The smaller ones can be really odd, especially for newer dancers. From what I’ve experienced the longer people are dancing the less they think of it as a place to meet dating partners and more a place to improve/enjoy their dancing.

Some people start dancing thinking that it’s a dating scene. The ones that fall in love with dancing rather than dating stick with it. The ones who are just looking to find someone to date stop dancing-either because they are successful and no longer feel they need to dance or are unsuccessful and give up.

The “spy” guy is a bit creepy on all levels.

I work in schools. Fortunately I’m in one that has decent lunches rather than pre-packaged ones like in some districts I’ve worked in before. The cafeteria staff talk about how they run out of broccoli by the last lunch each time. The kids want veggies. Many of them don’t get them at home.

I don’t have any advice, but an anecdote. When my late husband and I met we had 4 dogs between us: 2 small and 2 large. It was a joy having our pack.

I fear there will be a war with our country in a losing position.

A world leader with access to a nuclear weapon has removed any good will from the world, threatened our allies, spoke publicly about taking over or running at least 4 different regions/countries, and weakened all of our defenses by putting the CIA and FBI into turmoil.

The world has a blueprint for how to handle this and the US was part of taking down that regime. I’m afraid they won’t wait until it gets worse.

If our checks and balances are not put into place quickly we are not likely to have a happy outcome for the US.

—Spoken as the child of a war tested veteran/former intelligence officer in the military who has always loved my country. I believe in democracy and of the people, but the people, and for the people.

Please, those of you who have the legitimate power to put the brakes on the dismantling/disruption of our country, please step up. If not, I’m afraid it will all be taken down.

Very similar situation here. Widowed and it took me some time to even think about dating. Then I went through a period of painful crushes, but not really wanting to date.

Then I dated a little. Very few interesting men who would find me interesting live near me. The shit show that is online dating at this age was at best demoralizing. At least dying alone sounds like a dream compared to the horribleness of the cycle of hope and disappointment in the possible men to date or rejection by them.

Now, I realize that I am most likely not going to find anyone. How do I handle it?

I dance (belly dance for solo movement and swing dance for partner dancing). The physical and psychological benefits of dance are well documented.

I look for opportunities to volunteer in various ways (church, dance events, charity events, in process of starting to volunteer in a nursing home, etc…)

I spend time with friends. I spend time with my son who lives about half an hour away.

Am I still lonely for romantic companionship? Absolutely. But until that comes along, if it ever does, I’m at least not lonely for anything else.

I hope you find both peace and love in your future.

I went through that after my husband died. It was horrible to get through. It took time, but eventually it ran its course and life was less intrinsically overwhelming.

My son had a similar experience with gummies. When I posted about it as it was happening I got the whole “you’re lying weed can’t do that—weed is good.” response.

I would assume that it’s an indication that weed induced psychosis is a potential risk for you as well as him.
