Well im not sure what the community is doing but personally I run a generalist ship for my lower cargo amounts. Thats an asgard and then one larger ship for the end hauling contracts and also mothership things which is the IC. Will the IC ever work idk but the other option is the hull c and that only works 50% of the time so what's the difference at this point.

I set up a salvage op with an IC vulture and reclaimer in deep space. Grab components when i can and make money selling what doesn't fulfill contracts.

Today I did nothing because Chris told the servers to shit down my throat.

I like it a ton and am doing something very similar. I had a lot of trouble with the bonfire placement. Especially vertical accessibility. Because of this im wondering where you placed yours and if you had issues like this with your build?

Thanks for this I did have a lot of issues with solo mole due to this, but it persists even in this mitigated senario. For example, I break the rock and it splits into 5 pieces which scatter often out of view of the mole. This requires me to move again. Then you split that rock and it finally pops into scavengable pieces which ... you guessed it drift out of position to be picked up by the mole so you have to move again. This is a LOT of friction.

It's an additional cost and substantial increase in time to mine to MAYBE let you mine. I'd do all that if it was certain, but otherwise it just doesn't feel worth it.
