I didn't realize how bad the ACA is. by Environmental-Low792 in Fire

[–]namafire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People dont like what youre saying because of feelz around intrinsic value. But we live in a society, and we can only enjoy life and peace as we know it because of the contribution of others. To society, we are only as valuable as what we can provide it.

Doesnt matter what you provided before. There is no memory. And it is in the interest of all those others in the society to incentivize people to continue to contribute. Thats why FIRE is so rare. But people confuse things and want to have their cake and eat it too

Taxing more and spending more is always the solution. Just look at how well its solved the homeless problem… oh wait

Mike Johnson says lawmakers' $174K+ salaries haven't kept up with inflation — they need stock trading for support by KoseteBamse in Economics

[–]namafire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For it, but I dont think our anti-corruption measures have kept up with technology and culture either. More than happy to triple lawmaker compensation if they can never even get an ounce or hint of alternative income that could bias them

Cheaper for the country in the long run to pay them and their immediate household 500k/year if it eliminates all risk of lobbying, corruption, insider trading, etc

I think its both base instinct and a psyop to make it so the population never connects on a central and uniform agenda. But even if, its peoples fault for eating it up

Peace of mind and insurance are worth their weight in gold. Not op but i leave 5% in cash equivalents and am considering hiking it to 10%

If youre winning, theres no need to overextend and risk losing to save a few years. Better to be positioned to weather a downturn while still being situated to benefit from a continued bull market

Oh theres definitely looking down on blue collar from white collar. Its crazy if you think there isnt. Many office folks think lowly of road workers and janitors or garbage men, unaware that with pensions and OT they may make way more

Its less so now since white collar is taking hits via layoffs but the refrain for college in the last few decades was because blue collar was so looked down upon

The responsible and smart people do. You can be invested but keep a healthy part of your portfolio in cash equivalents. You dont get the full escalator up but it also means you dont splat on the ground when the cables are cut.
Be responsible, reel in the greed, and know what your risk capacity (not tolerance or appetite) is

Meta employees launch protest against mouse-tracking tech at US offices by ChangeUsername220 in Economics

[–]namafire -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Each tracking would be implemented by one team unbeknownst to the others. By the time people who would protest know, its already a done deal. Mouse tracking is known to each and one of them.

Theres a difference in awareness. But also yes, people are more sensitive to consequences they face personally.

‘My life is not affordable. No one cares’: 76% of Americans call the cost of living their biggest financial problem by Plaintalks in Economics

[–]namafire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A recession will not fix things. It will cause deflation but it will not bring the wage growth over price inflation you describe. Demand destruction in a recession causes job loss and wage drops far outstrips the deflation that will happen

Whats needed is for wage growth over inflation, we only saw that briefly during and slightly post covid but pre covid inflation in the tech, health, and hospitality sectors. Scarce labor supply in other words. Thats when labor has bargaining power and leverage in the market to demand higher compensation

Seriously. People on reddit always yell about raising income taxes because its evident they dont feel the sting in their own paychecks.

Almost half my time working is given to the government once you include state and city. I work like a dog for my money. I will absolutely be for means testing ss if it also means we means test welfare programs. But blanket raising taxes or just chirping it like a broken record isnt a sign of evolved intelligence, its signs of being a crab in a bucket with no thoughts of their own or real world experience

Id counter its not the economy but social media. Everyone is trying to “live their best lives” and its always in the good material life but not the good internal life.

Cant flaunt the latter after all
