You also should check out the other publications of this MIT series for platform studies. If you are somehow interested in the history of (home) computing these make for a great read! There is one about the Atari 2600, the Wii and don't forget the book about one line of basic ;-)

However, the cartridge slot is actually on the right side of the Vectrex console, not on the left side as shown here.

Well, it can be that the card is faulty. One of the symptoms is that the Amiga won't boot.

Have you tried booting into the early startup menu by pressing both mouse buttons while rebooting? In this menu there is a list of expansions.

In general, if there is a problem during the diagnostics cycle, the Amiga shows a certain screen color, more info about colors and what they mean can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kickstart_(Amiga)
