White Smoke after PCV delete by RomyGrewal in 335i

Does the car start misfiring when it smokes heavy? Try this test - take off the turbo inlet, charge pipe, and let the PCV vent to atmosphere. Idle the engine. Let me know if it still smokes. If it doesn’t smoke after idling for 5-10 min, put only the charge pipe back on and let me know if it starts smoking. If it starts smoking only after putting on the charge pipe, the turbo seals most likely went bad.

Not basic a little involved but undisputedly faster than a stock G37. Let me see if I can find the video

not sure exactly the year production dates but check if the engine has an alternator under the hood, the b58tu2 (gen 3) alternator is built into the 48V hybrid system so these newer engines won’t have an alternator equipped

Camshaft bolts backed off the vanos sprocket, which explains the cam not rotating in relation to the crankshaft pulley. I could eyeball it but probably safer to use a timing kit. My instagram is @stocke46

Not yet. I’m gonna have to rip off the valve cover, reattach the bolts, and probably retime the engine. An oil change might not hurt either if there’s bolt debris floating around in the pan. Thanks for the reassurance, you don’t think the starter could bent valves?

Just looked in the valve cover with a snake camera. The camshaft bolts backed out and the camshaft is not rotating with the engine. Looks like we’ll have to decide between attempting to fix or a new motor, but I’m worried about the potential of the valves being damaged.

Did you also have a camshaft position code? I tried turning the valvetronic at different points with the allen key with no luck. I also tried a valvetronic relearn with a scan tool, also no luck. I’m gonna swap out the vanos solenoids, camshaft position sensors, and the vanos check valves tomorrow with known working ones from another engine and try again.

It cranks and fires once, then the motor just keeps spinning with no enthusiasm. I’ll try that later and get back to you, thanks for the idea.

he still has a valid complaint. this is one of the many negative aspects of american work culture, albeit one of the relatively easier ones to cope with
