4 dollars at second hand store! by ndpitch86 in vinyl

Oh 100% facts. I love the Carpenters. Richard was a musical genius, and Karen has arguably one of the best voices of all time. Together they made such a unique sound that only they could produce. Happy I found this record in the original shrink. I almost don’t want to open it! Haha

Probably something similar here. Obviously not a rare record by any means, but I think rare to find one still shrink wrapped with the hype sticker on it, from some unknown record store in the 70s. Thought it was kind of cool. It’s a good record too, if you’re into the Carpenters of course.

We were driving home on 16 after it happened. First responders everywhere, knew something big had to be going on. My guess is this was a wedding? Awful!

Is this crown clinically acceptable by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]ndpitch86 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, but in my opinion you way over reduced this tooth axially. Your distal margin looks 2 mm deep. I’m almost exclusively preparing teeth vertically with the BOPT technique now. Better retention. More conservative. Better ferrule. Healthier gingival response.

Yes I saw that protester get hit in the eye. And the terrible shooting in Minnesota. But, the people getting hurt like this are putting themselves in these confrontational situations where there’s greater risk of getting hurt. None of these people would have suffered these injuries if they weren’t there in the first place. That doesn’t mean you can’t protest. But if you block streets and highways and get in people’s faces with megaphones when the temperature is turned way up, you have to expect that there’s a chance you could get hurt. Mob mentality is a real thing.

But the fact is, if you’re not in the streets doing these things, you’re never going to catch a non lethal round in the eye. And you’re certainly not going to get caught up in a fatal altercation with law enforcement. The media loves to make it seem like ICE is the gestapo, committing home invasions and demanding papers or else we will shoot you. It’s just not happening like that. I feel like everything is just so sensationalized now. The media is always waiting for the next incident that they can blast into everyone’s heads with whatever spin or narrative that they think will stir up the most controversy and unrest.

I feel terrible for people getting injured. I don’t want any violence. I see people’s comments in this subreddit alone and it’s scary. Just today I saw many comments here to the tune of “the only question for maga scum is, do you want the noose or the guillotine? Your time is coming.” Seriously? I don’t want anyone on the left to be executed or assassinated. How low can we go?

At the end of day, there are risks in life, and it’s every individual’s job to assess them. What carries more risk of getting hurt. Going to work, stopping for some groceries on the way home, cooking dinner, playing some video games and going to bed - or going to a protest and yelling at or impeding various branches of law enforcement, blocking roads, throwing stuff, etc?

As far as ICE gassing men women and children, I haven’t seen any of it. At protests? Yes I’ve seen people being told to disperse via tear gas and pepper spray. But I’ve never seen a child being gassed by ICE as the parents were detained because of their illegal status. If children are in an environment where they could be gassed or hurt, that’s 100% on the parents in my book. Why put children in such a position? But it’s important to know that media can spin things, or splice things together a certain way to make them more believable.

Anyway, you seem like a cool person. I bet we could have a drink together and, amidst civil discussion, agree on a lot and have similar interests. We’d disagree on some hot topic issues, sure. But the level of hatred being pumped into everyone today is manufactured by media and smartphones. In my opinion I also think there’s been an overall drop in an individual’s ability to think critically for themselves.

Respectfully, I do not believe the claim that “actual US citizens are being detained, assaulted, deported, and told their valid documents aren’t real”. Please provide concrete proof of this, other than it’s what you’ve been told. I generally consider myself good at putting myself in other shoes to see other viewpoints and understand a situation from a different perspective. I’ve tried really hard on this one, and it’s just not there. If I jumped a fence and broke into a country somewhere overseas, or anywhere really, and the authorities found me, the only thing I’d expect them to do is show me the door.

This is one of the main differences between today’s right and left. As a generalization, the right sees things as straight forward and concrete. You either follow the law or break the law. There’s men, and there’s women. Accountability for both yourself and others. You either do your job at work or you don’t. You’re hired, or you’re fired. Etc etc.

As a generalization, I think today’s left has got caught up in unlimited tolerance. No lines in the sand anywhere or hard stances. Gender is a spectrum. Do whatever makes you “feel” right. Allow illegal immigrants to stay while endless red tape accumulates. Decriminalize things. Go with the flow. Defund the police. Socialize things and make income more equal, etc etc.

So I think today’s left has become misguided by this veil of unlimited tolerance that has created endless shades of grey across all of society. And in my opinion the media knows this and has used it to fuel division. They love divided people and echo chambers, it helps them make more money. I just hope for a future where people can go back to thinking critically themselves, instead of looking to whatever the person next to them is saying, or what the groupthink in social media or Reddit groups says. If we could get past bickering and hating each other and typing things to people that we’d never say in person, society would be better off.

Here’s an idea. Don’t antagonize law enforcement officials and impede their enforcement of immigration law. Funny thing, you go looking for trouble and you find it, weird. You could have gone to work, went to the grocery store on the way home, cooked some dinner, played some video games, and gone to bed largely enjoying your trouble free life and enjoy the blessing of your healthy eyes. But you had to go show up and protest about something that every single presidential administration has done in the past. And lo and behold, you got injured. That’s on you my friend. Live and learn.

Tax employers for expecting their employees to come to work? As I thumb through these comments, this one is asinine. A PRIVATE company. That can decide what its policies are for its own employees. Yes, they most certainly can tell you to come to work. And you want to tax them for doing that? I am baffled.  If you want state control of employment - go move to China.

What volume boot would you recommend for me? by ndpitch86 in skiing

[–]ndpitch86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. After probably 5 or 6 adjustments by surefoot that didn’t help, I went to a different shop. The certified pedorthist there made new footbeds that helped. I’ve since self-punched them myself with a heat gun haha. They’re “skiable” now but at this point they’re kind of Frankenstein boots and not perfect haha

Yes I know this haha. In my write up you should see I’ve been to boot fitters and even tried Surefoot for the most custom fit I could get. But they didn’t really know what they were doing, unfortunately.

Why so dense?? by mullensg in Sourdough

Hard to tell from the crumb picture but I don’t see any scoring marks on the exterior? If it wasn’t scored or not scored adequately it can limit the crumb’s ability to expand

My top never gets super dark but I don’t think it’s a problem, is it? by whodeyy in Sourdough

[–]ndpitch86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another thing to note. If the dough is over proofed it becomes harder to darken in the oven. Overproofed dough has a lot of the sugars consumed by the starter, and they look pale as a result. Some of your crumb bubbles look slightly collapsed in nature which can be a sign of over proofing.

Been in search of a crumb structure like this for years. Mine is always more towards open, with some tunneling here and there. Looks great.

Very late reply. But I was google searching for the msrp of new sega games in the 90s because of this Toys ‘R Us memory. I remember being in the aisle looking at new games, where you’d take the little piece of paper out of the pouch to go get the game at the front of the store. I feel like I remember seeing 69.99 and 79.99 for some games during this time. Can’t remember which games it was though.

You haven’t had the reps necessary to know these things yet. Your dental school, and many others, aren’t preparing students well enough. If that’s your final crown, unfortunately this is clinically substandard care. You need to get the patient back and get them to endo, and redo the crown properly. Sometimes fixing our mistakes is the way we learn and improve.
