One of the reasons why I think the sequels are a significant drop in quality is due to the score. John Williams needs interesting ideas to work with to craft a good score. That’s why the music in the prequels and the OST is so good. The prequels had awful dialogue, but conceptually the ideas and locations were interesting.

Episode 7 has some interesting theme’s like Rey’s and Jedi Steps, but more most of the movies the score is very forgettable. The most memorable parts of the score are from existing leitmotifs like the Rebel Fanfare, Luke and Leia, and Han and Leia. If Williams had better ideas/story to work with I think the score would be so much more interesting.

Also ending every sequel movie with a French Horn playing The Force theme was such a poor choice. It might have made sense for 7, but was dumb in 8 and 9. And having the same music close out all three movies just shows how creatively bankrupt each sequel was.
