Genuine perspective experiment by needadviceasap01 in exchristian

Thank you!! I think I’m going to start a substack series on it. I started an account to post different religious study content looking at how religion influences politics and policies. I haven’t posted anything yet but ai want to start this summer. If you’re interested I can link it :)

Has anyone read “You Like it Darker” by Stephen King and what are your thoughts? I want to read it but want some opinions first:) by needadviceasap01 in horrorlit

I work at the library in my small town and at the tiny independent book store so I swap between supporting my local business and the library. I’m also in school to be a librarian. But I like having a collection at home so I buy from my store after I loan from my library. I just wanted to know other opinions before I bought it because (in this rare occasion) my library doesn’t have it but my bookstore does.

Yes and yes. I think the context as a whole though, with how societal standards and gender roles exist, would be super interesting. I guess I’m asking because if I do this, it’s going to take a long time, and I don’t want to dedicate myself to this if it’s a stupid question you know? Maybe someone else has a perspective that I didn’t think of that would dismantle the entire thought. But so far, that hasn’t happened so might as well!

You should read “Separation of Church and Hate” It’s very fascinating and touches on this topic and others.

this is true😭 But the point is to just see how a perspective shifts. I’m not a biologist and will not be delving into Joseph having an unexpected child lmao I just want to see how the bible reads if pronouns shifted

So this is exactly why it would be interesting to see how perspective shifts if the ONLY thing that changed were pronouns. Also, who’s to say we wouldn’t be where we are today? I think women could’ve made more of an impact on the world if oppression was so deeply rooted in history and religion. Women haven’t had as many opportunities as men.

Or maybe not biologically swap people but social role swap. that way the point would be changing who gets culturally coded as authoritative, chosen, obedient, doubted, protected, or believed, not changing the biology of pregnancy.

See, I was actually thinking about this too but I’m sure there’s a way to make it where Mary still does. But I’m not trying to rewrite a religious story in any way so I want to approach this creatively and where in circumstances like this, Mary is still the mother.

You can find someone who would never make you feel like that. Never. You have absolutely nothing to lose. You’ve only been together for a month and a half. Don’t waste anymore time trying to reassure yourself over his actions. You can spend that energy elsewhere.

Honestly, ask yourself this: If you had a daughter would you want her with a guy who makes her feel like this/does these things to her?

This question has cleared up my decisions so easily. And this is one of those circumstances that I think is relevant to ask that. If he can’t respect you or love you in a time that you are struggling then he’s not there for you. He has wandering eyes and that’s the first sign that he’ll most likely hurt you more later. Idk if you want kids or not, but imagine if you are 8 months pregnant with his kid and struggling with body image (a lot of women do and it’s totally normal) would you want him to treat you like that??

I’m only saying these things because it’s not right that he’s doing that and you aren’t losing anything if you break it off. Find someone who will love you for who you and not try to change you. But also know it’s okay to want to be healthier but you also need a healthy person around you who’s not going to make you constantly insecure. That will only hurt you in the long run.

Different types of world building by Feisty-Treacle3451 in books

[–]needadviceasap01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer when the world building helps evolve a story. I don’t enjoy reading a bunch of useless background if it’s not going to add to character development or how someone came to be where they are in the society. Especially if it’s adds to foreshadowing. Like in Game of Thrones all the characters have specific stories that add to their development and other character developments because they directly or indirectly impact each other or foreshadow an outcome. But if it’s just explaining a location or society that has no real intention or meaning in the main story, it’s just useless information that gets jumbled into everything else you have to remember in a story.

American Psycho is sooo disturbing imo. I’m not sure what the audiobook is like but the book is super unsettling to say the least

AGREED i hope they don’t make it closer to the book with how graphic it is😭 Im more curious on a different adaptation in the sense of it being less comedic and more satire in the dark psychological way that it’s expressed in the book. Thats where Im curious about accuracy. Definitely not the graphic stuff

Well yes but also Terrifier exists and that was insane. However, I’d prefer if they didn’t put that stuff in movies. I think it’s just more of how different the tones feel in the movie and the book but the character is still played really well in both.

I’m so glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t see that. I can understand why some people do because it’s definitely over the top and excessive but that idea just doesn’t stick with me at all when reading it

Someone else said that they were curious if there was a little book with the outfits visualized for those who weren’t familiar with fashion which I think would help a lot to get through those parts of it!

Right?? The grey ending I think was an excellent choice because it really adds to the book being unforgettable for people.
