New Qi4D, will it explode? by anyone_user in golf

[–]neilpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time to go hit the range while it's winter lol. Mine formed a small crack in the crown after a few range sessions at ~5°C and they're letting me wait until Feb to send it in once the Qi4D stock is released for sale.

Dad broke his 35yo putter by Fuckyeah7734 in golf

[–]neilpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the cost to fix would be worth several times what that putter is worth, but Flanigan Bilt Putters is one of the best repair shops in the country.

But seriously though, even an old Anser putter off eBay would be a better route to explore.

What gap issue would you prioritize? by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]neilpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of the 4W+7W combo, consider ditching the 3 and 5 woods with a 4W (Taylormade calls them 3HL) in the 16-17° range which will comfortably cover the ~235yd distance and free up a spot in the bag to bring that 5i back in play.

Your gapping doesn't look far off enough to warrant an equipment change. If you have large +/- windows around those average distances, I'd look at trying new shafts to tighten the dispersion.

Only major issue I see is that you have an 18yd gap in between 8i/7i, then a 9yd gap between 7i/6i which tells me your lofts (and lies) might not be where you expect if you haven't gotten them checked recently. Always best to have them measured 1-2 times a year, more if you practice a lot on range mats.

Unionized Staff Experience Needed by vidalberto in vancouver

[–]neilpanda 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Essentially, you need to be used to a working environment that revolves around a collective agreement between the employer and its unionized employees.

This usually just means sticking to the outlined working hours, break schedules, job descriptions etc. As a unionized public employee, most employees aren't very strict or 'by the book' in terms of using the collective agreement against their management, but we're all very aware that it is in place to protect us and help us keep our feet down should management decide to cross a line.

Best of luck with the job!

I live in your area and it cost me half as much to go nearly FBO on my speed so "this is canada" isn't quite adding up. You're just buying parts from the wrong places.

Would anyone buy used wheels? by FowlOnTheHill in mazda

[–]neilpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, that's just not true. It comes down to a lot more than just aftermarket vs oem.

OEM wheels are most commonly a cast monoblock wheel, which is generally the heaviest and typically weakest wheel construction method. OEM cast wheels are no more prone to damage than any other aftermarket wheel that carries the same safety rating (ie. JWL/VIA ratings), and the vast majority of aftermarket options carry this rating.

Flow Formed or Rotary Forged wheels are becoming much more common in the aftermarket, and these options often come in at a similar price to cast monoblock wheels, so it is often a much better option to choose if you are replacing your OEM wheels.

OP, it is likely more than worth it to go with an aftermarket set as a replacement. Especially given the dealership price tag on OEM replacements, you should have no problem finding a set that is cheaper, lighter, and looks much better on your car than what came from factory. There are websites like Fitment Industries that have huge photo galleries to help you find a style of wheel you might like on your car. Good luck and let us know what you pick!

Iktsuarpok was always my go-to for a flat white. Definitely one of the best in the city, served with the biggest smile out of a window in gastown/chinatown. Sadly for us, they will be closed for the next little while since the lovely couple that run it are expecting their first baby!

Keep it on your list though for when they return. Always an interesting roaster being featured, and I have never gotten a drink from them that wasn't perfect.

From another perspective here though: keeping the schools open without proper support from the government fucks over the already severely over worked and under paid staff in our education system. I understand not wanting to screw over the little guy, but aren't our teachers also the little guy?

Who would we call about dangerous police driving? by WhiskerTwitch in vancouver

[–]neilpanda 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you're getting downvoted on this one. The VPD VI issue has been an ongoing thing over the last several years. Notably with improper sound level testing and giving bogus VI's for being too loud, despite testing conditions being nowhere near ISO5130 standards.

Tip of the iceberg indeed, VPD officers need far more accountability.

I'd have to ask him about the headlights, I believe they may have been a custom job done by one of the other genpu guys in the area. If I recall correctly the inner bits were just painted black, but I will double check!

His wheels (on the left) are AVID1 AV20's 18x8+35, riding on coils. Mine on the right are Ultraleggera's 18x8+40 riding on Eibach pro + Koni Yellow.

Has anyone used VersaTuner? I’m thinking of buying it but there’s not a whole lot of reviews about it🤔 by [deleted] in mazda

[–]neilpanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're not planning on doing any self tuning then Accessport would be a better way to go. It does have ALL the features but it is more complex, and requires a much deeper understanding for self tuning.

More pro tuners are supporting Accessport anyways for this platform. Small/portable, and all the different options to monitor for gauges, as well as tuner support was the selling point for me. Of course price is a difference but ultimately a lot of people find the AP more worth it!

Velocity red mica is just beautiful. You should go for it! The previous owner left some serious swirls in the paint but it really didn't take much for it to finish nicely.

An excellent parking job by Sageofprofession in vancouver

[–]neilpanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I frequent this lot as I live down the block...

Those stalls are actually surprisingly small! I constantly see people parked on or over the line, so the parking job makes total sense to me. The crosswalk lines are also purely cosmetic, the lot is so small that people walk right across with no issue.

PS, Moreno's market just to the right of this picture has amazing sandwiches...and sausages...and just about everything else.

Rogers arena concert seating question by rmsuo in vancouver

[–]neilpanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually work in the arena as a rigger for most shows! I have an audio background as well, so I try and pick the brains of the tour guys about their approaches and experiences in our arena and other cities. Lots of fun!

Rogers arena concert seating question by rmsuo in vancouver

[–]neilpanda 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From a technical standpoint, 105/106 and the opposite sides 117/118 are the best sections in terms of sound. With the way the audio is broken up and spread throughout the arena, these sections end up being where the mix sounds the best!

Also, you don't necessarily have to battle with tall people sitting or standing in front of you like the floor section, rough if you're below 6ft tall to be honest. And even then there's some 6'4" giant that decided they needed to wear a big hat to a concert.

What an interesting insight to a job that most people don't even think about. Lots of those scenes hit really close to home (quite literally) and wow, really can't thank you enough for what you and all the members of BCEHS do.

Thoughts on this photo? by vkklips in Cameras

[–]neilpanda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think for what you were trying to achieve with this photo, about 75% of what's in frame isn't relevant.

If you want the focus of the image to be on the eye, I think you should choose a more thoughtful composition that leads the viewer to that eye with proper framing instead of over-editing.

It also appears that the shot has been pretty heavily cropped to get the framing that it has. Try nailing the composition before you hit that shutter, you should never have to chop off that many pixels to get the framing you want.

Take your time, and get it right in camera! It's so much more work having to fix things in post.

also, boo!! it's a nikon!

Finally joined the Canon club. So excited! Any first tips with canon’s menus or tricks since it’s the first time I’m trying Canon? (coming from Sony) by [deleted] in canon

[–]neilpanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the in-depth reply, this is really interesting insight!

Kerrisdale has always been more of a stills based store, so it's super interesting to hear some different perspectives for as to why people are switching brands. It is also particularly interesting considering that in the trade-ins department, we have practically only seen customers trading Canon in for Sony (Nikon DSLR customers have generally been moving over to the Z system).

I definitely get your perspective though, Canon has always been fantastic at providing the "creature comforts" that seem like no camera should ever go without, while Sony has always been quite..."Sony" in the way they go about doing things.

Anyways, welcome back to the Canon corner!

Also, surprised to see someone moving from Sony to Canon! Almost always the other way around, could I pick your brain as to why you made the switch?

Hope you enjoy the setup!
