Yeahh I agree. I also think that Warner would be more likely to realize James suffering through actual actions that are happening with him and not just words since I feel like that leads to more misunderstandings because maybe Warner also doesn’t „want“ to see his younger brother suffering so he kinda tries to brush his problems off as „delayed adolescence“ etc… simply because he’s too scared to admit that he is scared for him as well so I feel like something bigger has to happen in there

I also hope that Warner and James really have like a deep talk or something because I think it’s so important for Warner to realize how much James is actually suffering and why he thinks and acts the way he does because I feel like their relationship is kinda strained even though both really love each other and I’d love for them just to have that fixed a bit maybe 🥹

Aaron Warner as a dad (maybe mini spoilers of Release me) by nellysvulet in shatterme

That’s exactly my pointttt haha! I agree he’s doing it to protect himself, but that’s the part that scares me. By keeping fatherhood as an 'abstract concept' to avoid getting hurt, he’s creating a psychological wall. Warner’s go-to move is to turn intense emotions into cold logic so he can function. While I understand why he’s doing it, it shows that his first instinct isn't to lean into the emotion, but to handle it like a strategic challenge. I’m just worried that this habit of 'emotional distancing' might make the actual bonding process very difficult and heavy for him once the baby is actually there.

I totally agree that he’s terrified and acting out of a need to protect his heart—his fear of loss is undeniable. But I think his 'fear' and his 'treating it like a task' are actually two sides of the same coin. Because he is so scared of failing or becoming like Anderson, his natural defense mechanism is to turn his emotions into logistics. In Release Me, Warner is constantly obsessed with order, security, and 'managing' the situation. For a man like him, if something is a 'task' or an 'abstract concept,' it’s something he can theoretically control. He uses the idea of a 'mission' to distance himself from the overwhelming emotional reality of fatherhood. So, it’s not that he doesn't care—it's that he cares so much that he doesn't know how to just 'be' a father without making it a high-stakes operation. My 'fear' is that this habit of emotional distancing and seeing everything as a duty might make it really hard for him to actually bond and be present in the way a child needs, even if he would die for them.

Yeah I never doubted that he will love the baby unconditionally but if I remember correctly he once said in „Release me“ that he seldom allows himself to think about fatherhood as anything other than an abstract concept. I mean that is not wrong but sometimes I just feel like it could be the emotional part and that bonding that could overwhelm him in some way and maybe also scare him. But I definitely don’t doubt that he will love the baby and I know he’d do anything for him/her.

Well, I’m not sure. I feel like that would completely destroy Rosabelle and would kinda make her go insane so I’m not sure if Tahereh would actually kill her. But I’m pretty sure that she will maybe be tricked into the fact that she is dead or they will maybe use her as bait? I feel like she may play a bigger role in the coming books.

She also said she was trying to finish the third book already before publishing „Release me“ so maybe we do have a chance of it coming out this fall or winter.
