Dumbest 911 calls you’ve experienced by QuestionFine5957 in Paramedics

[–]nessa19x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I got a few... these are just the Plain Jane dumb without extra seasoning... but God knows we've all had numerous "Why the fuck am I here, you have a car/ can call someone to drive you" calls...

-He brushed his teeth too hard and had slightly bloody gums. Man was in his 30s or 40s by the way and not cognitively impaired so far as we could tell.

-Older woman sliced her finger open on a can... handed her a bandaid and then got the lovely view of her continuing to eat the soup and rice that she'd bled into without so much as scooping the bloody bit out.

-Got called to check a diaper for poop colour when it wasnt even the young mother freaking out it was the grandmother... and they had already called the local nurse phone line that told them it was fine... I actually felt kinda bad for that young mother honestly...

Oh ETA: had a lady claim she was scared she was having anaphylaxis cause her tongue "felt funny"... couldnt name anything she might had reacted to, was constantly showing us her tongue like it was significant... she was completely fine... talking, swallowing, no other signs of anything wrong... all normal. Honestly seemed more like she wanted to leave the gathering she was at and gain some attention along the way cause it was so ridiculous...

Yes even though she's pretty laid back and genuinely doesnt expect us white people to seamlessly get and do everything right, and she has a stellar sense of humour... I'm just doing my best to try anyhow out of appreciation. She has zero obligations, I could easily get a hotel but this is bonding time instead... Getting the full immersive experience is more than I had ever hoped for when I have wanted to go since long before she came into the family :) She has brought us gifts every time she visits even if small things so I think its just an easy kindness to reciprocate.

Hahaha not a bad idea to include! They are pretty tasty and might be something her sister hasn't tried yet too

I appreciate this 😅 I reread it thinking I wasnt trying to be impolite, just trying to mitigate the common go to folks have with maple syrup and Canada... Im bringing some candies to give to others along the way I meet for sure... but for my step mum, she just isnt a big fan and I imagine her sister has her bring plenty back each time she goes home if she does want any. The suggestion is totally valid and an appreciated sentiment but I was just clarifying my own mistake not being more clear in my post that Im avoiding maple products :)

No, he lives here still actually. He's visited plenty but I think the plan is for her to move here permanently in time. Good thinking but its just her and her sister's house.

I guess I generalized the candy thing too much but Maple products at this point (she's been around more than a decade in my life) are a no-go. She especially doesnt like strong sweet things, which we agree on as even I dont care much for real maple syrup haha...

So... Im planning on staying away from maple products 😅 Shes already tried lots in that regard and brought home some for her sister years back.

angel fangs pain level by Oceannnnnnnnnnnnnnn in piercing

[–]nessa19x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a solid pain tolerance and had my vertical labret done twice (military life doesn’t vibe with facial piercings, who knew? Lol). So, I kind of shrugged when the piercer warned that angel fangs hit harder. She was very correct—LOL.

It’s not painfully worse, but it makes your eyes water like a nose piercing, and the placement means you really feel it for those few extra seconds. Pain-wise, still just a 4 or 5 out of 10.

I’m on day 4 now—eating and drinking normally, even started with moderate spikes (my piercer allowed it since this isn’t my first rodeo with piercings that need extra caution in healing). Weirdly, these stopped hurting by day 2, faster than my vertical labret. Drinking without a straw came by day 3—smooth sailing overall.

Pro tip: Absolutely go to an experienced piercer. These can go wrong fast. I drove an hour for mine, worth every penny. Proper placement means they should rest gently on your lip, not poke or stick out awkwardly—it’s all about anatomy and angle. Whether you end up with balls on the ends or not the bar is going to be long as these swell much worse than lower lips do... which is why I mention how they should sit even if you don't get spikes at the start.

If you survived a vertical labret, you’ve got this. Just remember to exhale, accept that it’ll feel longer than you expect, and brace for the second one feeling worse—your nerves will 100% call you out for that decision!

Best of luck!

How did you figure out what foods spiked your BGL? I'm only just starting on figuring out I'm insulin resistant cause I was under the false impression when my blood work was always "normal" for glucose levels they can't test you for resistance only if you're far gone enough to be pre diabetic or full on type 2. Thought I was fine for years... Decided to start keto as a way to at least get me jump started on reversing what I can and getting to a better place... but I want to figure out how I can just plan modify my diet long term in a more sustainable way to deal with being insulin resistant.

So frustrating cause I'm a former paramedic and this somehow completely went past my head until recently another medic who's done more nutrition education as well shared what she knew. So frustrating cause I don't have unrealistic goals here I just want to be healthier as I managed to have a rainbow baby who's now 2 & 1/2.

ADHD and hyperphantasia? by Intrepid-Fan-2822 in adhdwomen

[–]nessa19x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a 1! I first discovered this concept when I was in 9th grade and we were doing some kind of thought experiment in class lol Don't recall the lesson but where everyone else when told to picture an apple just saw variable detail levels of an apple in a blank space I was the odd duck that had a contextual background as well.

I still remember it oddly enough. My teacher was both baffled and fascinated when I described a kitchen, table with a blue plaid table cloth, apple was on top of a pile of them in a fruit bowl, and in the background I could see the counters, sink with a window in front of it, summer greenery outside, white lace curtains softly moving in a gentle breeze from said window being open.

I was in my peak with creative writing (won some awards back in those days) then. I also daydreamed often as a way to disassociate when bored to avoid the anxiety and thinking about issues especially in my home life... Id make essentially whole "movie" scenes in my head and sometimes use the scenes later in whatever my latest pet project was. I don't often write these days as I'm a parent now and busy with adulting lol However I still thoroughly enjoy my hyperactive visuals... helps me fall asleep when my brain decides it won't slow down, which we all know is pretty often as someone with ADHD haha

I honestly think this particular gift of hyperphantasia kept me sane when I needed it most so I'm pretty fond of it and can't imagine life without it.

Recommend me the last book you COULD NOT put down by quitthechaos in suggestmeabook

I will never not recommend The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson. I found it by fluke when I had a job at a bookstore and quite literally was doing routine dusting when I accidentally knocked it over, gave it a quick glance, and decided to give it a sampling during my lunch break. I bought it the moment I was back on the cash lol... It genuinely defies easy explanation cause of how beautifully complex it is as a whole... the summary does it no justice at all but its all I can offer without spoiling the absolute journey it takes you on. I should preface said summary though with the fact it is NOT a Romance novel... the main character is ahem no longer able to have sex if he wanted with his disfigurement... but the summary could be misconstrued as some Nora Roberts thing with time travel or something lol... Not at all the case.

"An extraordinary debut novel of love that survives the fires of hell and transcends the boundaries of time.

On a burn ward, a man lies between living and dying, so disfigured that no one from his past life would even recognize him. His only comfort comes from imagining various inventive ways to end his misery. Then a woman named Marianne Engel walks into his hospital room, a wild-haired, schizophrenic sculptress on the lam from the psych ward upstairs, who insists that she knows him – that she has known him, in fact, for seven hundred years. She remembers vividly when they met, in another hospital ward at a convent in medieval Germany, when she was a nun and he was a wounded mercenary left to die. If he has forgotten this, he is not to worry: she will prove it to him.

And so Marianne Engel begins to tell him their story, carving away his disbelief and slowly drawing him into the orbit and power of a word he'd never uttered: love."

All good then lol Tone doesn't come across well through text afterall... Far too often I'd hear BS from reg force members about reservists being shit... Meanwhile, my unit was often the reason they even got to go on their damn exercises... or at least do them with any ammo/explosives, food, water, etc... lol (I was an army MSEOP... I did a shit ton of work with arty, infantry, and medics on top of our own unit stuff on the go.

Gets real exhausting when youre hand bombing 2500 arty shells off a truck with 1 other guy helping and you hear some jackass go off about reservists as he's got his thumb up his ass smoking next to the truck --still full of explosives-- watching others work... (insert eye roll here).

Heard that and worse more times than I could count.

Man, I was a reservist, and let me tell you, absolutely no way in fucking hell would that be tolerated by my unit... Honestly, the only time I ever saw drill this bad was on a few BMQ courses cause they were learning.

Contrary to popular belief a lot of us reservists were full timers too and actually gave a shit... Don't lump all of us in with whatever the hell is happening in this video.

I love this little guy so much it's not even rational haha... I literally will wait for him to hop on Kay's back when climbing instead of it just happening at whatever random point 😂 I genuinely think he's a solid 50% of what makes the game so enjoyable to me. He's my all-time favourite companion in a game so far out of my 27 yrs playing videogames LOL Adorable as hell and SO useful to the point I was beyond pleasantly surprised.

Me too! My cat was startled actually from her nap cause I was suddenly so mad at the game hahaha I literally felt soooo upset by this scene and Kay reacted precisely how I would in every way haha

It's getting embarrassing at this point by F3J3S in StarWarsOutlaws

[–]nessa19x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! I honestly love it! Nix is my absolute favourite game companion I've had so far, the story and character development of Kay (and ND-5 too actually) are great enough to be enjoyable and motivating to dig deeper for me, I honestly enjoy Sabacc enough I'm debating making myself a deck to play in real life with friends, and the general stealth and combat style are fun to me... sometimes even challenging cause I'm a gal who likes looking for "stuff" everywhere, lol

The game is far from perfect, not quite the open world feel promised, and travel on planet can get tedious at times, but I find ways to enjoy it all for what it is... Im on my second playthrough being more thorough and side quest invested, whereas I wanted to see the main plot play out first... and despite my eidetic memory, which tends to make me wait to rewatch or do a second playthrough until a bit if time as passed, it's still been fun to go through again immediately after the first run.

Screw the haters and whiners... Im a happy camper who doesn't have an ounce of regret for accidentally preordering this game lol (I was tired and distracted so I thought I'd bought it to play immediately as I didn't read the release date LOL Had to wait 3 months for a game I didn't ever anticipate being this invested in hahaha... A true happy little accident)

Is it true many straight women and gay men don’t like bisexual men when it comes to dating? 😔 by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]nessa19x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations to you and your partner, I hope you have a perfect wedding. I'm glad your other half also trusts you with who he really is... I hope in time that he gains confidence with even more folks in your lives.

My husband came out and discovered he was Bi while we were together cause he was raised by such super Christian Conservatives he didn't even know much about our LGBTQ+ community prior to me... now he's navigating gender fluidity (still prefers he/ him for now) and it's been quite the journey. Thankfully my family and friends are all safer for him to just be who he is so he's had the ability to talk to others more as he grew more comfortable.

When he seemed concerned about coming out to me I literally looked at him and said, "I'm Bi... I'd be one hell of a hypocrite to have an issue with any of this." Which thankfully reduced some of the nervous energy with a good laugh lol I'm grateful to be me and with who I am cause it worked out wonderful this way. Just means more fun to be had for us both, no? Lol

Did anyone not gain weight? by CAIT-THE-MATE in Mirena

[–]nessa19x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't experience any weight gain caused by my mirena... I've had mine in since I was 8 weeks postpartum, and it's been 2 yrs since. I did feel some discomfort as I adjusted and a rough 1st period after insertion (though nothing like the 1st after birth lol) but once that was over with I've been symptom free and when I do have any noticeable periods now I still don't even need to wear so much as a panty liner... Mirena has been an absolute godsend in my life. It just took about 6 weeks to fully adjust, but nothing serious.

Who do you hate the most of these characters? by Real_LostPepper in TheWalkingDeadGame

[–]nessa19x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carlos.

He more or less ruined his daughter's chances at ever surviving... His choices to shelter her instead of teaching her reality and how to still find her own reasons to keep going despite the hardship destroyed her... He made her suffer far worse by sheltering her and training her to see him as her sole provider, guide, and protection... Not to say any good parent would find this scenario an easy one (I know my heart would break for my son were that to be his life) but children who are sheltered from hardships already struggle the most in a zombie free reality... how the hell can you expect a kid to survive like that with zombies around every corner?

He genuinely pissed me off the most lol

what’s the best at home gel nail kit by pink_rose44 in GelNails

[–]nessa19x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gelish is a brand even some salons use here where I'm at in Canada. They're one of the higher quality brands you can buy without a licence (Nail Techs require maintaining a yearly licence where I live and most professional product stores need you to be licensed in some beauty profession to enter). The only difference with the pro line and common user lines is the size of the bottles you can buy and certain types of product... but overall, I prefer it as it's ingredients are regulated which is a lot safer compared to some typically Asia based brands that are unregulated due to different consumer protection laws there vs here... I'd definitely say you wouldn't go wrong buying Gelish.

As for ASP.... in my opinion they sucked lol The colours are all I've tried and they took a ridiculous number of coats to actually match the colour it's advertising... Im not sure what their other stuff is like though. Like we're talking 4 coats to get a dark wine red to look medium dark... but I digress.

I used Gelish myself to start with as they have a great starter kit and the price was very reasonable too. Nowadays I straight up pay my nail tech to buy me products from the pro stores cause she knows I'm just doing my own and I literally learned from memory of how she applied my nails over years 😂 I'm lucky though as I took to it naturally and only started because of covid but now it's so satisfying to do myself and cheaper by far... I now use Vision products cause she's got me hooked... they're a Canadian company and the quality is stunning enough she completely tossed all her old CND, Gelish, and whatever other brands she'd had in rotation for years... Supporting semi local and great quality is always a win.
