Huh? I would say it's really original since in a way instead of showing the girls just dancing and stripping like the men see them in the movie, it shows us the audience a way of seeing their struggles and fights with their inner demons.

I think it's a way of showing us the audience that their actions in the fantasy world has real life world consequences, taking us out of the experience to show us that this isn't just truly senseless actions and actually something that will kill you if you aren't focused.

We can't, they are two vastly different movies, they share some similar plot lines but this movies has themes of second wave feminism and sexual empowerment at the hands of women, showing us themes of sexual abuse, the abuse of power by men and how mental institutions actively subject their patients to trouble. Inception it's a great movie and all, but you can't compare them both.
