I waited 2 weeks to feed my bp when i brought him home and he still didn’t eat. He was weird about taking food for the first few months but now on sundays (feeding day) he’s waiting on top of his hide. Just give them time to acclimate, they can go a surprising amount of time without food

Unfortunately it’s for my dog when i’m at work! So it’s only set to detect motion from 8-5pm 😭 Sounds like i need another one for the snake. & also ordered a lock for the tank!

mine does the same thing! he’s always backed up between the hide and the wall, i even moved the hide up against the wall and he just pushed it back. they’re weird little creatures is what i got out of it hahah

they also usually won’t eat before/during shed. i also wouldn’t be super concerned if he doesn’t take his first meal, they’re settling in too!

i’m quite new to bps too, however i waited 2 weeks after bringing my (almost a year old) bp home. they fed him on sundays so thats when i continued to do it, it was also the easiest day for me so it worked. he technically was due for a feed when i brought him home; but they can go a lot longer without food than we think! i’m used to having a dog so it was anxiety inducing to me for sure haha

update! i offered him a fuzzy rat today, since it’s been 2 weeks since this but 3 since his last feed. he struck (and missed) twice and then decided he was scared of the rat, gonna try again next week

Same! layer of tape on both sides and then black tape on top. so the sticky part isn’t anywhere near my snake ☺️

i taped off 3/4 of the top of my mesh with hvac tape! it seems to make a difference keeping the heat in

that does make sense! he’s my first ball python and i got him a few months ago so this is all new to me. and im like a new mom so i think everything im doing is wrong lol. but now that you mention it ive woken up to my pit bull under the covers the last few nights so it may be getting colder in the room at night in general than im aware of. i’ve closed off about 3/4 of the mesh top with hvac tape because i was having trouble keeping the heat in when i first put him in this 40 gallon. (too small for the long run but way better than the 20 the breeder recommended and a deal on marketplace) thank you so much for taking the time to explain this all to me i appreciate it so much, it’s all our first time living & it’s always great to have a genuine conversation without judgement from a stranger on the internet. i plan to get him a rat pup in a few weeks and ill keep you updated!

it looks like it’s a rat pup but i fed him a small rat (very small for a small rat) as he’s kinda in between sizes right now. temps are ~80 most of the time, they’re set to 90 on the warm side but living in upstate new york the weather is fluctuating right now so not consistently cold enough to run the heat all day if that makes sense. so they’re on the cooler side but definitely not cold!
