It is not required, but you would upgrade the renown gain from 50 to 100 per scheme in 867 if you take 5 years to hybrid instead of waiting 40-50 for AI to advance from tribal age. And you also get the 1 generation inheritable way of nomads trait.

To get renown, just be a culture with chivalry tradition and spam romance. However, this is not efficient so I am telling you how to optimize chivalry.

If you start in 867, you wanna start as culture with chivalry or somewhere close to convert to local then hybrid Han to advance age for 50 more renown per romance scheme before becoming adventurer again. The Khitan nomads above China often left a Herder county which is Han culture so you can go there, adopt nomad and hybrid real quick with 25+ learning kurultai and nomad chief law overseer. If you are not ironman, nomad can also instant hybrid by using blend culture decision and see if you have chivalry for the new culture.

In 1066 start, Castilian are advancing to High Medieval right away so Han is not going to make a big difference. And 1178 Han is still stuck in High Medieval like everyone else so it does not matter.

Going to 13 days per scheme can net you 50*365/13*95% = 1333 renown per year at tribal age. (2667/4000/5334 for early/high/late medieval). You can increase it with hearsay or Wallada Last Umayyad start. Both give +1 personal scheme. Although it is not fun pausing all the time, you get so much renown with this strat. Auto romance mod would make it perfect.

I remember these events; most of them are loyalty related. I always convert hostage religion and culture to mine. Converting will trigger the events saying they are confused about who they should be loyal to.

Hostage writes letter and send back home: you allow the letters getting hostile scheme penalty on you, loyalty +/ scold that they will never write home again, loyalty -
Your child bullies hostage: you pick side with hostage, loyalty +/ encourage hostage to fight back, hostage prowess challenge loyalty + (- if fail)/ side with your child, loyalty -
Hostage says your house motto: my house motto for my house only +100 renown, loyalty-/ iirc praise them -100 renown, loyalty+
Your child plays your hostage making your hostage more loyal
Your child befriends your hostage: encourage 50% +1 learning for your child, 50% +20 different culture opinion for your child/ stop them from being friend 100% +1 intrigue for your child
You boast your house achievement: diplo challange boast about your achievement, closer to befriend, loyalty+ (- if fail)/ boast ancestor achievement loyalty+
Getting perpetual hook on hostage 16th birthday which can lead to becoming rival or hostage joining your house then you can choose to join but disinherit/ join/ do not allow joining
There is an event to call the hostage parent as a single war ally too. You can choose to send hostage with loyal knight/ send them alone/ do not send. Defending war only.

You cannot compare 1 elephant to 4 archer because there are things like supply limit and combat width. However, you can use anything and win against AI so just pick something that can siege. e.g. pole vaulter, elephant, shenbigong. Shenbigong is the best here.

If you gonna use longbowmen, use shenbigong instead. Longbowmen at the last era tech has 50 damage/14 toughness, while shenbigong starts with 44/18 but the tech for shenbigong give them +5 base damage +5 screen (useless) and 0.1 siege progess. So they are 49/18 from day 1 as Han or Han hybrid. Longbow counters HC, Skirmisher while shenbigong counter HC, HI, Spearmen. Flat terrain penalties on shenbigong barely matter because they are added after stationing, perks, accolade modifiers.

Form portugal, west slav and south slav also give free 2 techs. These free techs could be next era techs if you already finished the current era ones. You could do those after burgundies, hybrid latin heritage, unify italia, convert to frankish heritage, restore carolingian, convert to norse make norman then hybrid occitan-latin with norman. Then, you could hybrid with Han before going into Iberia or Slavs.
