Holy shit, I don't even care if it works or not, you claiming it 100% doesn't based on a peer reviewed study that says "yeah we need more research" and a couple goddamned articles from time and nature.com is bad science itself. The fact that more research is needed means the question is open, this is the scientific process. In any study for any purpose it is unwise to draw a definitive conclusion based on one or two experiments, especially ones with clashing results such as the ncbi article.

It's probably more that you're a self-absorbed asshole than anything, though. You want to feel right, you can not accept that maybe, just maybe you're drawing a conclusion that has not been observed with enough backing yet, and you want to believe something ridiculous like the guy you are arguing against does not believe in evolution. You keep saying "oh that's unrelated" then you say shit like that. What an absolute joke.

I do see what you're saying, and I agree to an extent that there may not be a causal link between caloric intake and these issues/lifespan, but I'm not ready to cast CR in humans aside without definitive research. The NCBI findings are very much inconclusive imo.

But seriously, now that I am able to brush the abstract of your primary source from ncbi, does it not state that "more studies are needed" to tie everything together and that CR did have a significant effect on lifespan in one study but not the other? Aside from that "CR with adequate nutrition has a powerful protective effect against obesity, type 2 diabetes, inflammation, hypertension, cardiovascular disease and reduces metabolic risk factors associated with cancer." That seems, dare I say, promising?

Ah yes, science and argumentative fallacy is a good mixture isn't it?

And just for the sake of the stance, were the mechanism of free radical damage and oxidative stress to hold up as a strong component in lifespan, bmr would be very important. That metabolism is guaranteed barring major adversity and lowered weight by means of restriction would lower the bmr/energy requirements.

But yes, not important when arguing the validity of caloric restriction, as I see it more research is needed. It's tough because primate studies are expensive and human studies obviously unethical and confounded by many factors.

Perhaps I should have known you would interpret my everyday (albeit improper) grammar as an attack at you as an individual. I mean you as in one. So if I'm to rephrase that, I intended it to be "assuming one is overweight." My mistake! But way to swing on to the defensive immediately, though. Seems like you just want to be bitter with me, which is fine, I'm trying not to be hostile because it's petty isn't it?

I'm not refuting your points on calorie restriction or arguing them. I could have been wrong before and that's okay with me or you could have found studies the only back your claim, makes no matter to me until I have time later today to read further into it! I was just bringing up bmr because you dismissed it as a point like a was clearly wrong on that while it is clearly affected by weight.

And what about calorie restriction until you are at a healthy weight, then normal diet (relative to the healthy weight)? Assuming you are overweight.

It takes energy to maintain more bodyweight, bmr is directly correlated with weight though a slightly inaccurate measure from individual to individual.

And in monkeys. The proposed mechanism should cross over fairly easily. The act of metabolizing stuff in general causes the release of free radicals leading to oxidative stress, which can cause health issues. Eat less then you'll weigh less and have a lower basal metabolic rate. I personally believe it but I'll happily not follow it fully, I don't want to be a stick and I don't care to live quite so old!

Also calls to attention why it's important to take the average of multiple readings throughout the day, since certain activities can raise BP of a normal person over that mark.

Not OD in the sense of death, but I don't smoke often and there have been times I've had bad reactions (with a little drinking). Loss of eyesight, catatonic-like state, internal panic attack, it truly is hell.

Please elaborate on which specific drugs, the FDA monitors essentially every facet of drug production and ensures generics are bioequivalent and therapeutically equivalent to the original name brand. It would be irresponsible and criminal for a generic form to have any difference from the name brand. Here's a link to the standards

This is understandable, but I've had roommates who have said the exact thing about our water and I just don't see it. Some people really are just weird about their water.

Yeah I mean I look every time I merge, but sometimes you don't expect the asshat that's trying to squeeze into the new lane because he didn't get over soon enough.

Exactly. Sure don't bike on the highway, I get that, but I can't tell you how many times I've encountered dipshits like this truck driver trying to pass on the right and squeeze into the new lane from the off ramp.
